whenever a funk or rap tune hits on alternative, it always seems to have an old-school sound to it. this is no exception. i'm curious to see how high some of you think this can go. i'd say it won't break the top 20, but i'm often wrong with my predictions. what do you think?
not a bad little tune, btw.

I think it will peak around #25, it's great to see Outkast there.
But one question... did "Mrs. Jackson" chart?? I don't remmember now, but this song is also alternetive enough for a top 20

If this does better than "The Seed 2.0," which it probably will, I will be very angry.

I don't think this will make the top 30, but I think it will reach 20 weeks.

If this does better than "The Seed 2.0," which it probably will, I will be very angry. i think i agree with what you're saying except for the 'angry' part. 'seed 2.0' is one of the best rap songs i've heard in years, and i'm sure my opinion has a lot to do with the fact that it was done in an older rap style. this song is good, too, but not that good. still, alternative is not a natural home for this type of music. chart performance here can't be taken as a very good measure of a funk or rap song's overall worth. how did 'seed' perform on the urban charts? is 'hey ya' crossing over from one of the urban charts? i did a quick glance over 'urban' and 'urban ac' the other day but i didn't spot it. saw something else by outkast, though, perhaps their follow-up to this?

I don't think "The Seed 2.0" made the Urban chart, and if it made the CHR/Rhythmic chart, it had a very low peak. "Hey Ya" is doing well on Rhythmic, up 31-21*. It's languishing on #83 on Urban, but the song didn't even go for adds at the format (come to think of it, it might not have at Rhythmic either).

I love this song but don't see how it fits at Alternative... however, I'll root for it here anyway because as I said, I love this song.
I do agree with Josh though the "The Seed 2.0" should have peaked higher. That song was great and actually does fit at this format, IMO.

They both fit the format because it is "alternative rap". If the format wants to keep calling itself "alternative", then it damn well better be playing songs like this, and "The Seed [2.0]" and "Rock Star", to name a few.
Three jeers for the 56 stations that aren't on "Hey Ya!".

are you talking about "Rock Superstar" or another song? No, 'Insane In The Brain'. They play that equally horseshite House Of Pain song all the time as well.

Wow, just realized this is #2 at K-Rock (WXRK New York). That must really help it out on Billboard's Modern Rock chart, since its audience impression based.

Yeah, "Hey Ya" is #29 in spins but #13 in audience (and the Offspring's "Hit That" is already #18 :o).

Yeah, "Hey Ya" is #29 in spins but #13 in audience (and the Offspring's "Hit That" is already #18 :o). Some stations use audience charts as a guide as to what to play, and some use the spins chart. My point is, I wonder if seeing how high "Hey Ya" is in audience, some more stations may really start to jump on it that up til now weren't planning on it.

Between alternative and pop, I think we'll be hearing quite a bit of the song in the upcoming months. I think it can make top 20 alternative.

I never saw "Seed" on any urban or rhythmic chart. "Hey Ya" was played on alternative radio before anywhere else. "The Way You Move" was the preferred song on rhythmic and urban and is now in the Top 10, but "Hey Ya" is following it up those charts, and doing very well on pop now.
