I wish I could help you out, but I'm just as curious as you are for these year-end charts. The only one I have is 1-50 for 1998. However, could you at least hook me up me 1-50 for 2002, since I assume you have it?

I'm not sure where you got your top 50 from, but the list I have is quite different from yours. I copied this directly from the website. He got it from Mediabase's page that lists the top 50 of the 2002 calendar year. That's not the same as R&R's 2002 year, obviously.

Any idea why Schism is in the top 50 of the Mediabase '02 calendar chart, even though it was off the chart by November '01? Did it get that much recurrent play, and would Mediabase include it based solely on recurrent spins? Or is it a typo for Lateralus?

I image it's a typo, and thank you for providing me with those end charts. Now I won't kill you. (mad props to whoever picks up the reference)
Could you now post the 2000 chart? Now, I have a copy but I'm pretty sure there is a lot of mistakes in it.

Yes, Mediabase includes songs that spend the whole year in recurrent on their year-end lists. I think "Schism" is the correct song listed. "Lateralus" spent the four weeks roughly covering January 2002 airplay (1/11/02, 1/18/02, 1/25/02, and 2/1/02) at #16, #17, #18, and #18. That's about 1200 spins per week if you go off the current Alternative chart, and when you add in the three other days of the month, it adds up to about 5000 spins in January. "Schism" is only listed with 3562 spins on the Mediabase site, so there's reason to believe that it's correct.

LOL, that link cranks out a bunch of mumbo-jumbo characters with the data squished in there somewhere.

Haha...I see. That's what happens when IE thinks it can read spreadsheet files.
Looks like you gotta do the old right-click-save-target-as.

Crash, amongst all the junk that displayed, I noticed that you had included the 1994 year-end chart. I have some information regarding it that might interest you. That year-end chart is a bunch of garbage and was in a way "fabricated". See, the alternative singles chart began on 4/1/94, so for the rest of 1994 before then, they simply used the alternative album chart peaks and "awarded credit" to whatever song was released at that time. BUT they also screwed up on several songs, which is why artists like Crowded House and Dead Can Dance have albums listed, not actual singles. So I guess what I'm trying to say is for before 4/1/94, use Billboard for your chart history data. I do have the actual 4/1/94 chart, but I don't have anything else for 1994 currently. So I can't say whether or not the post-4/1/94 peak dates and positions are correct.
