thegreatdivine I’m not speaking on the AOTD award. I’m solely speaking on the Hot 100 AOTD award and I wouldnt that Rihanna has to do “really well” at all. If Drake completes the decade with the most weeks at number one then he will score the title. If Rihanna completes the decade with the most weeks at number one then she will score the title. Rihanna also has the MOST number ones this decade and her next #1 will give her 10 this decade alone. (Only the Beatles and Mariah Carey have scored 10+ number ones in a single decade). Drake currently 49 weeks at number one / Rihanna currently has 41 weeks at number one = that’s an 8 week difference. Last decade Usher scored the Hot 100 AOTD award as he had the most weeks at number one and the most number ones overall, however Beyoncé had more top tens and entries overall and she finished 2nd. Drake may have had more hits in the streaming era but that’s irrelevant - Rihanna dominated the Hot 100 the first half of the decade whereas Drake didnt. Drakes first number one came in 2016 with Hotline and he soared off from there. ••••••• As for the AOTD title alone, Rihanna will finish at #3 or #4 which is great considering she was #16 for the 2000’s. That shows how consistent her career has been the last 14 years. Rihanna will also be the Airplay artist of the decade. I understand. That's why I'm saying it all depends. Rihanna will have to score a #1 and a long-running one at that to surpass Drake for most weeks at #1 this decade and even at that, it's still open for the taking. Her lead single will have to do really well. No one knows Drake's moves this year. He could score more #1's this year and his songs stay longer at #1 than Rihanna's songs seeing as he has damn near 50 weeks at #1 with 6 #1's and Rihanna has 60 total weeks at #1 with 14 #1's. Of course streaming factors into that, but that's the fact. In this streaming era, Drake is king supreme, lol. Very rarely is he outpeformed. He's been the most consumed artist in the US every year since 2015 till now. He pulled over 11 billion on-demand streams in 2018 from his entire catalog. Next in line? Post Malone with 7 billion on-demand streams. A new single from him is most assuredly debuting in the top 10, if not #1. We'll have to see if the hype for new Rihanna music pays off with large chart success this year. I'm sure it will, but we'll have to see. You never know. *Also, Drake's first #1 was One Dance, not Hotline Bling. Drake stands to take home: AOTD, Hot 100 AOTD, Billboard 200 AOTD, along with any awards they give out for streaming. He's also got more certified singles than Rihanna, so if there's an award for that, he's taking it, too. I think it's deserved. No one else has dominated in the US this entire decade like he has and it's a good thing that these awards are based on actual figures and not opinions so it's not like he didn't put it in the work to earn them. Rihanna had an incredible run from 2008-2012, but then she slowed down. Drake, on the other hand, picked up the pace and has quickly caught up to her on a lot of fronts. It is what it is.

Great thread but there's a mistake. Billboard doesn't use inverse point system to compile the decade end chart. They use actual sales, at least they used for the 2000s charts (No Strings Attached by N'Sync was the number #1 album of the decade because of its sales)
The inverse point system is used only to compile the all time charts

^ Not quite correct actually. It varies by chart. For the 2000's they did use actual sales for the Billboard 200 album chart, but for the Hot 100 they used an inverse point system. Not quite sure how they combined the component charts for the overall Artist chart - whether they used raw consumption #s, inverse points, or some combination of the two, and it gets more complicated this decade because there will be more component charts contributing to the artist chart - but the bottom line is WE DON'T KNOW yet what they will do this decade because it isn't over yet, and they will most probably update their methodology.

You're right, they use and inverse point system for the Hot 100 YEC/DEC. But I was talking about Billboard 200. I'm pretty sure they used actual sales for the 2000s decade end Billboard 200 chart and for the overall Artist of the decade. I believe they will use sales from albums again (instead of an inverse point system) since they use sales for the YECs

Nothing is set in stone. I think they'll more likely use a point system (more likely the one in this thread), since they remodeled the Billboard 200 halfway through the decade. Just like how in the 90s they used a point system since Billboard 200 changed to Soundscan after the 90s had already began. It wouldn't make sense imo to go by raw weekly numbers since that just ignores the track sales/streams albums got prior to November 2014.

Thanks to oldbloke @uk:
BILLBOARD 200: DECADE-END
The list below is based on the Billboard 200 charts from the issue dated December 5, 2009 up to the issue dated August 24, 2019.
The first 262 charts were based on pure sales, with the final chart dated December 6, 2014.
The subsequent 247 charts were based on sales + track equivalent albums (TEA) + streaming equivalent albums (SEA), known as SPS (sales plus streaming).
There will be another 13 or 14 charts that will count towards the decade-end listing, dependent on whether the cut off Is the November 23 or November 30 chart.
Only charted sales/SPS are counted on this list.

Well I am glad Billboard didn't announce who the AOTD was at the BBMA'S. They'll probably put out a list like they did for the 2000's, and very few people will get to know who the AOTD was. Since Taylor being awarded AOTD at the AMAs was given so much publicity most people will assume she is the AOTD even if Drake was titled AOTD by Billboard. A win for the Swifties!

The 2000’s Decade-End list was released in December 2009. We’re approaching January 2021 and the 2010’s Decade-End list, which should’ve been revealed in 2019, is nowhere to be seen. Either BB doesn’t care to release the lists or has forgotten about them. 💀 It’s not just the U.S also. Several Decade-End lists that were revealed across various countries in the 2000’s (France; Germany; AUS; NZ) haven’t released theirs either. The U.K didn’t neither - they just said that Ed Sheeran was the biggest act of the ‘10’s overall, Adele was the biggest Female act and Rihanna was the biggest international act.

Will they though? They didn't for the 2000's, so I would like to keep my hopes up about them completely skipping over it for the 2010's too.

They have more of a reason to make the 2010's decade honors a big deal. We'll see what ends up happening.
