What is the current record for longest climb to #1 on Billboard? I believe it's this one: July 25, 2015: Love You Like That-Canaan Smith-Mercury-49 weeks

This is set to make Billboard chart history next week and it should have died a long time ago. Now, it's the biggest spin increase in the top 50: Why? Because it's 58 weeks old? Sure, I don't like the fact singles take so long to peak nowadays too (corporate programming and longer overnight allocation is a huge reason) but it's not as if "Make Me Want To" is pulling a "Dive Bar" in testing (a song that absolutely doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the top 5). Jimmie's song is actually still testing incredibly well, given how old it is. It's the fourth-ranked single on Mediabase callout with the third-lowest negative score and one of the lowest burn rates. Stoney Creek kept pushing it because radio let them. I hate chart runs this long but to the vast majority of average listeners -- they don't care if it's 58 weeks old. It's not selling well but programmers clearly will let that slide if it tests well enough. At the very least this record will be held by a #1 single (likely) for the first time since Eddy Arnold's "Bouquet of Roses" had the record at 54 weeks in the late 1940's.

What is the current record for longest climb to #1 on Billboard? I forgot a few: “Make” reaches the Country Airplay summit in its 58th week on the survey. It’s the longest journey to No. 1 in the history of the chart, which launched in January 1990. It passes Chris Young’s “Voices,” which took 51 weeks (over two release cycles) to lead at last on Feb. 19, 2011. Three titles follow with 49- week climbs to the top: Eli Young Band’s “Love Ain’t,” which reached the apex on May 25, 2019; Canaan Smith’s “Love You Like That” (July 25, 2015); and David Nail’s “Let It Rain” (featuring Sarah Buxton) (Jan. 21, 2012).

Peak of #49 on the Hot 100 isn't bad for his second single.

Well I'm at least glad that "Dive Bar" never came close to hitting #1, but I would've preferred Sam Hunt just get another week at the top. I know this one was still testing well up till the end, but man, this chart run was just ridiculous in length. Wish we could get back to quicker turn-arounds on the country charts and stop letting just about every male song that comes close have a turn at #1.
