A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie gets the edge for a second week at #1. Strong streaming will help Hoodie SZN stay flat to down less than 5%.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse pulls into second place, possibly playing spoiler. The soundtrack, which includes "Sunflower" by Post Malone & Swae Lee, is currently on sale at iTunes for $6.99.

A Star Is Born will remain flat this week after the movie was released today at iTunes. Look for a bump next week once viewers have had a chance to watch over the weekend.

It's expected to be #1 for a 27th week in the UK this week, extending its lead over 21 as the album with most weeks at #1 in the 21st century. The last album to spend more time at the top (of only five) was Simon & Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water during 1970-1971.

Her album has sold 250k so far and is still selling well. Besides two soundtracks no album sold 500k in the 2018 calendar year. Eminem’s most recent got there after the new year and he’s a sales legend.

Arianna has never been a sales monster but she has always been consistent and that’s gold for a label. High peaks aren’t forever but if you can move units album era even if they aren’t outliers, you’re worth keeping.

Arianna should end up over 300k sold. How many 2018 releases will end up there ? Less than 20 or 25? I’d say that’s pretty impressive

Music artists don’t usually have this many albums that fall in the same range of sales. I recognize Arianna isn’t cranking out plantium albums but she never comes close to flopping either in relation to where the music industry is. That’s consistency. When this era is over her first four albums will have sold 435,000 of each other. Not many artists pull numbers like those (Demi Lovato being another that comes to mind).

(Not including artists who consistently sell under 100k where obviously all their sales fall in the same range)

Ariana's sales numbers aren't awful but for the current num.1 female PoP artist out there right now they could be a bit higher.
However she does great streaming and even though that's SO important today my old self still would be happier if she was at 400 thousand right now and not 260. lol.
Maybe she hasn't gotten many adults to buy her cd's yet??

FLIPOVER FRIDAY: NEW ARRIVALS AT iTUNES AND APPLE MUSIC

A new single from Ariana Grande and the major label debut from Texas country artist Cody Johnson lead the iTunes charts this flipover Friday while Future kisses the sky at Apple Music.

Grande’s “7 rings” (Republic), Johnson’s Ain’t Nothin’ to It (CoJo/Warner Nashville) and Future’s Future Hndrxx Presents: The WIZRD (Epic) sit at #1 on their respective charts on a flipover Friday filled with rookies.

Three other new tracks land in the Top 10 at songs today: Why Don’t We’s “Big Plans” (Signature/Atlantic) at #3; Maren Morris’ “GIRL” (Columbia Nashville) at #6 and Logic’s “Keanu Reeves” (Def Jam) at #7.

At albums, the Face My Fears EP (Epic) from Japanese superstar Hikaru Utada is #2. At #3, is the long-awaited debut from Maggie Rogers, Heard It in a Past Life (Debay Sounds/Capitol), who stunned Pharrell Williams with a musical performance at NYU nearly three years ago.

Future Hndrxx Presents: The WIZRD is #4, followed by Switchfoot’s Native Tongue (Fantasy) at #5 and Human (doddleoddle) from Dodie, a Sony artist in the U.K., at #6. The 10th studio album from Papa Roach, Who Do You Trust (Eleven Seven) is #8.

CHART STORY: HOODIE HOLDS, SPIDER CRAWLS UP

A Boogie Wit da Hoodie’s Hoodie SZN (Atlantic) spends a second week at #1 on the HITS Top 50 Chart, moving north of 55k. Republic’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack did, however, get close to unseating the set, which happens to be down when it comes to percentages. Spidey, up 11%, goes #3-2, ending the week with 53k.

Post Malone f/Swae Lee’s “Sunflower” (Republic)—the lead single from Spider-Man—is #1 on the Streaming Songs Chart with 28.8m streams, while also the top earner on the Song Revenue Chart with more than $220k. Thanks in large part to this added visibility, intensified further by the release of standalone single “Wow,” Post’s last album, beerbongs & bentleys, grows #5-4 on the Top 50 Chart, tacking on 43k.

And as Oscar buzz loudens, Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born soundtrack remains in the Top 10, scoring 40k on behalf of Interscope. Hollywood’s Queen-packed Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack re-enters at #14 with 27k. At this point, employees of karaoke bars worldwide may never stop twitching.

In looking at marketshare, UMG is #1 with 54%, WMG follows with 29% and SME is #3 with 14%, while the indies claim 3%.

Streeting this week are projects by Freebandz/Epic’s Future, Capitol’s Maggie Rogers, Warner Music Nashville’s Cody Johnson and Island’s Mike Posner.
