#27. "I'm A Saint"
Total Points: 392 Average: 28.0 Year Released: October, 2004 Radio & Records Peak: #32 Billboard Peak: #33 Rankings:kw9461 - 2 sabre14 - 9 George Strait Junkie - 14 castleoblivion26 - 15 LBTrocks - 26 CoJoFan - 28 Cody Wants Out... - 29 Kanenrá:ke - 33 tim - 33 gardyfan - 34 bboat11 - 37 .indulgecountry - 37 zack97 - 46 ClevelandRox - 49 "I'm A Saint" was the second single off Mark Chesnutt's Savin' The Honky Tonk album in October of 2004. It peaked at #32 on R&R in February of 2005. It was written by singer-songwriter Jason Sellers, Tony Martin and producer Jimmy Ritchey. This has always been one of my favorite Chesnutt songs, even though I know it's largely forgotten by casual fans. Melody is superb, as is the production and I love the lyrics. It's a song that isn't meant to be taken seriously by the narrator. I lose a top 10 and kw9461 loses his #2.

#26. "Down In Tennessee"
Total Points: 383 Average: 27.3 Year Released: June, 1995 Radio & Records Peak: #17 Billboard Peak: #23 Rankings:Kanenrá:ke - 8 zack97 - 9 gardyfan - 15 .indulgecountry - 21 CoJoFan - 22 sabre14 - 24 bboat11 - 25 LBTrocks - 25 George Strait Junkie - 29 castleoblivion26 - 34 kw9461 - 35 tim - 44 Cody Wants Out... - 45 ClevelandRox - 47 Tennessee Titans
"Down In Tennessee" was the fourth and final single off Mark Chesnutt's What a Way to Live album in June of 1995. It peaked at #17 on R&R. The song was originally released as a single by John Anderson in 1985 off his Tokyo, Oklahoma album.
I always thought it was interesting that they released a song to radio that was a top 15 hit just 10 years prior...you don't see that too often. Anderson's version is better but his vocals are also so distinctive. Mark does a good job here though and it's a song that has a haunting feeling to it.

#24. "Fallin' Never Felt So Good"
Total Points: 375 Average: 26.7 Year Released: March, 2000 Radio & Records Peak: #47 Billboard Peak: #52 Rankings:Kanenrá:ke - 5 George Strait Junkie - 11 LBTrocks - 11 ClevelandRox - 20 castleoblivion26 - 22 sabre14 - 25 Cody Wants Out... - 26 gardyfan - 28 tim - 31 bboat11 - 34 CoJoFan - 37 .indulgecountry - 39 zack97 - 40 kw9461 - 46 "Fallin' Never Felt So Good" was the lead single off Mark Chesnutt's Lost In This Feeling album in March of 2000. It peaked at #47 on R&R in May. The song was written by Shawn Camp and Will Smith (not that Will Smith lol). Camp took the song to the top 40 in 1993. Mark Wright produced both Camp and Chesnutt's versions. Another song that has a charm to it that is pretty irresistible. Wouldn't call it one of Mark's best but a song I like more than most probably. Kanenrá:ke loses a top 5 at #24.

Up at #23, we have a song that quite frankly I'm shocked got three top 10 placements and carried it to the top half of the reveals.

#23. "(Come On In) The Whiskey's Fine"
Total Points: 358 Average: 25.5 Year Released: July, 2008 Mediabase Peak: Did Not Chart Billboard Peak: Did Not Chart Rankings:Cody Wants Out... - 5 kw9461 - 7 LBTrocks - 8 George Strait Junkie - 13 castleoblivion26 - 16 Kanenrá:ke - 18 zack97 - 18 bboat11 - 30 .indulgecountry - 31 gardyfan - 37 ClevelandRox - 39 CoJoFan - 45 sabre14 - 45 tim - 46 "(Come On In) The Whiskey's Fine" was the third single off Mark Chesnutt's Rollin' With The Flow album in July of 2008. It was written by Phil O'Donnell, Dave Turnbull and J.R. Shelby. Lofton Creek got some secondary radio airplay for this one. I was too hard on this song. I still don't think it's one of Mark's best vocal performances but it does have some pretty clever lyrics. I did not expect this to get so high however and be the highest placing single off this album, in the rankdown. Cody Wants Out... loses a top 5, while kw9461 and LBTrocks lose a top 10.

I knew "Come On In (The Whiskey's Fine)" wouldn't last too long; I hear it plus "The Lord Loves the Drinkin' Man" on SiriusXM's Red, White, & Booze (covering nearly all decades of country music and classic rock to boot!) every now and then.

I haven’t really had the time to keep up with all the reveals and comment as much as I would like to, but thought I’d try and catch up on a few:
“Down In Tennessee” (#26) - I’m surprised this made it as high as it did as I would’ve actually predicted it to be out somewhere close to the bottom 10. I was always a bit surprised they went with this as a single and it probably hurt his momentum a bit heading into the Wings era.
“Broken Promise Land” (#25) - Glad to see this make the top 25 and I knew I’d likely be the highest ranker for it...there’s just always been something about this song that pulls me in and I love how it builds up over the chorus with the piano.
“Fallin’ Never Felt So Good” (#24) - I’ve always been a fan of and partial to Shawn Camp’s version and while Mark does a pretty good remake of this I just couldn’t find room for this inside my top 30.
“(Come On In) The Whiskey’s Fine” (#23) - This is probably the biggest surprise thus far and I really didn’t see this getting as much support as it did. Still not a fan of this song and doubt I’d rank it any higher than my #46.
“Let It Rain” (#22) - I absolutely love to put this song on during a cold, rainy night with a glass (or two!) of red wine in hand lol...such a great tune.
Looking over the top 20 I don’t see many surprises other than maybe “Wrong Place, Wrong Time” and this has to be one of the strongest top 20’s I’ve seen from all of the artist rankdowns we’ve done thus far. Hopefully I can keep up with the rest of the reveals but you’re speeding through these mighty fast!

The writer of “Confessin’ My Love”, Shawn Camp, took the song to #39 in 1994. Both of his only top 40 singles peaked at #39 on Billboard lol. Both music videos directed by the late Steven Goldmann. Hopefully I can keep up with the rest of the reveals but you’re speeding through these mighty fast! I'm hoping to go a bit slower starting now lol. My free time is more frequent today and tomorrow, but this should finish by the weekend.

I used to have not only the song “Fallin’ Never Felt So Good” but his entire debut album on repeat back in the day! There were lots of great songs on there including “I’m Not Just Passin’ Through” and my favorite “Speakin of the Angel”. Still like to pull that one out every now and then and give it a spin.

I figured I was due some losses in the 20's.
I'm A Saint is just such a clever, fun jam with a great melody.
I'm glad I wasn't the only person to enjoy "Come On In (The Whiskey's Fine)". The chorus made me laugh out loud the first time I heard it and I've loved it ever since.
"Oughta Miss Me By Now" is really strong, but in truth the whole Tradition Lives album is superb. I'm glad "So You Can't Hurt Me Anymore" was highlighted, that's one of the best songs Mark has ever recorded (would easily have made my top 5 if it had been a single). Why they chose to go with "Hot" as the second single I'll never know.
Kind of surprised that the last two non-hits standing are "Wrong Place, Wrong Time" and "A Hard Secret To Keep". Both are good songs, but not what I would have expected.

It peaked at #29 on R&R in July. It was written by Scott Miller and Jimmy Alan Stewart.
I'm really surprised this did so well. I actually do think it's one of Mark's most underrated uptempo songs but I didn't realize it would get so much love here. It has that distinctive 90's country vibe and some amusing lyrics.

#18. "A Hard Secret To Keep"
Total Points: 316 Average: 22.5 Year Released: April, 2005 Radio & Records Peak: #49 Billboard Peak: #59 Rankings:LBTrocks - 2 zack97 - 4 sabre14 - 5 Kanenrá:ke - 6 .indulgecountry - 7 ClevelandRox - 22 tim - 22 castleoblivion26 - 24 Cody Wants Out... - 31 bboat11 - 32 George Strait Junkie - 37 kw9461 - 38 gardyfan - 42 CoJoFan - 44 "A Hard Secret To Keep" was the third and final single off Mark Chesnutt's Savin' The Honky Tonk album in April of 2005. It peaked at #49 on R&R the last week of May. It was written Jim McBride and Jerry Salley. The song was later included on Mark's next album, Heard It in a Love Song. A music video was shot for the song but was never released after it petered out at radio after two months.
I love this song. Superb production and instrumentation -- the fiddle and dobro are haunting. The lyrics are pretty cold but that's why I love it, brute honesty and that's honestly something that is missing from country radio nowadays. I know it wasn't a hit and was after Mark's prime at radio but this is right up there with the best songs of his entire career, imo. Five people lose a top 10, while six lose a bottom 20.
