My guess for #5 was going to be "Goin' Through the Big D"...and I'm here!

#5. "It Sure Is Monday"
Total Points: 159 Average: 11.3 Year Released: May, 1993 Radio & Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1 Rankings:bboat11 - 2 ClevelandRox - 5 castleoblivion26 - 6 sabre14 - 6 Cody Wants Out... - 7 George Strait Junkie - 7 Kanenrá:ke - 9 .indulgecountry - 10 gardyfan - 12 tim - 14 kw9461 - 15 CoJoFan - 19 LBTrocks - 20 zack97 - 27 "It Sure Is Monday" was the lead single off Mark Chesnutt's Almost Goodbye album in May of 1993. It reached #1 in August. The song was written by the late great Dennis Linde.
It's nearly impossible to not sing along to this song. The melody and vocal arrangement is as good as it gets. The song is also extremely relatable, which is usually the case for weekend/start of the work week subject songs. Mark's vocals sell it too.

I wasn’t sure where “I’ll Think of Something” was going to land and I’m pleasantly surprised to see it make in the top 10. This has always been one of my favorite Mark Chesnutt songs and one that I still put on to listen to quite a bit. I absolutely love everything about the production of this and the use of the fiddle, steel guitar, and piano. Such a great song.
Doing this rankdown I was reminded of how often I still hear Mark’s songs on the radio down here in Texas and “I Just Wanted You to Know” is no exception as it’s one that you can still find being played. This has such a smooth melody and I’m not at all disappointed to see it make it into the top 10.
Now bring on the top 5!

We're to the point of this rankdown where the remaining songs were universally liked, other than one or two lower rankings. These top 4 were the top 4 songs the entire way.

Well so much for that prediction lol! I thought for sure "It Sure Is Monday" would wind up in the top 3. I was really into this song when I was growing up and had this song on repeat...it's still a fun jam after all these years.

#4. "Brother Jukebox"
Total Points: 131 Average: 9.3 Year Released: November, 1990 Radio & Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1 Rankings:George Strait Junkie - 1 .indulgecountry - 1 tim - 1 gardyfan - 2 zack97 - 3 sabre14 - 4 CoJoFan - 6 ClevelandRox - 6 Kanenrá:ke - 7 Cody Wants Out... - 10 kw9461 - 18 castleoblivion26 - 19 bboat11 - 20 LBTrocks - 33 "Brother Jukebox" was the second career single for Mark Chesnutt off his debut album, Too Cold At Home. It was released in November of 1990 and reached #1 in February of 1991. It was written entirely by Paul Craft. Craft was a songwriter in the 70's and 80's mostly. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014 and passed away just two weeks after he was inducted at the age of 76.
This is without a doubt one of Mark's signature hits. We have a wide open country night remote at work every once in a while and this one always gets a spin. It's such a well-written and creative song. This was the #2 song in the rankdown for a while.

#3. "Too Cold At Home"
Total Points: 128 Average: 9.1 Year Released: July, 1990 Radio & Records Peak: #2 Billboard Peak: #3 Rankings:Kanenrá:ke - 2 zack97 - 2 gardyfan - 3 sabre14 - 3 tim - 3 ClevelandRox - 4 .indulgecountry - 4 George Strait Junkie - 5 bboat11 - 6 CoJoFan - 8 Cody Wants Out... - 17 kw9461 - 17 castleoblivion26 - 26 LBTrocks - 28 "Too Cold At Home" was the debut single for Mark Chesnutt in July of 1990 off his debut album of the same name. The song would peak at #2 on R&R and #3 on Billboard in October. It was blocked from #1 on R&R by Garth Brooks/ "Friends In Low Places." It was written by Bobby Harden.
This song is so good. Fantastic lyrics and that production is heavenly. This is what I might imagine playing in an audiobook if I look up the term, "country music." This was top 3-4 the entire way of the submission period. I was a little surprised nobody ranked this at #1.

That's a bit of a shock to see Mark's signature hit out before the top 3. I have a very early childhood memory of the 1991 CMA Awards and one moment I do remember is seeing Mark Chesnutt perform "Brother Jukebox" as he was nominated for the Horizon Award that year. This has and will always be my go-to song for Mark.

I'm going to say it's "Bubba Shot the Jukebox" for the win. I think "Goin' Through the Big D" is a fun and clever song but is really the only outlier for me inside the top 5.

#2. "Goin' Through The Big D"
Total Points: 126 Average: 9.0 Year Released: October, 1994 Radio & Records Peak: #3 Billboard Peak: #2 Rankings:castleoblivion26 - 1 Cody Wants Out... - 1 Kanenrá:ke - 1 bboat11 - 4 kw9461 - 5 George Strait Junkie - 6 LBTrocks - 6 tim - 7 sabre14 - 8 CoJoFan - 11 zack97 - 11 .indulgecountry - 15 ClevelandRox - 18 gardyfan - 32 "Goin' Through The Big D" was the second single off Mark Chesnutt's What a Way to Live album in October of 1994. It peaked at #2 on Billboard the first week of 1995. The song was written by Mark Wright, Jon Wright and Ronnie Rogers.
Another song I heard a ton growing up and one that always puts a smile on my face. Again, the lyrics should be written in a gloomy way because who enjoys going through a messy divorce? lol But it's delivered in such a fun way. Also, the title is so distinctive and the hook is incredible. I didn't think it would beat out "Too Cold At Home" and "Brother Jukebox" but it did -- overtook both in the last submission or two.

#1. "Bubba Shot The Jukebox"
Total Points: 76 Average: 5.4 Year Released: August, 1992 Radio & Records Peak: #5 Billboard Peak: #4 Rankings: CoJoFan - 1 LBTrocks - 1 sabre14 - 1 zack97 - 1 castleoblivion26 - 2 George Strait Junkie - 2 Kanenrá:ke - 3 tim - 4 .indulgecountry - 5 Cody Wants Out... - 6 kw9461 - 6 ClevelandRox - 7 gardyfan - 8 bboat11 - 29 "Bubba Shot The Jukebox" was the third single off Mark Chesnutt's Longnecks & Short Stories album in August of 1992. It reached #4 on Billboard in November. The song was written entirely by Dennis Linde. Mark's label MCA didn't think about releasing "Bubba Shot The Jukebox" when the album came out but while "I'll Think Of Something" was in the top 15, stations started spinning "Bubba Shot The Jukebox" and caused it to chart on Billboard early. MCA decided to adhere to radio and release the song as a single officially in late August.
I still think this is the signature song by Mark Chesnutt. "Brother Jukebox", "Too Cold At Home" and a few others are right there but "Bubba Shot The Jukebox" STILL gets requests at our radio station to this day. It's such a simple song when you break down the lyrics...literally, a guy named Bubba shoots the jukebox after it plays a sad song. The police show up and that's the entire song lol. But its melody is terrific, the production had the right amount of punch and Mark's vocals are perfect.
I always laugh at the line, "Reckless discharge of a gun. That's what the officers are claiming...Bubba hollered out 'reckless hell!!...I hit just where I was aiming!'" lmao.
Also, this was a landslide. Beat "Goin' Through The Big D" by 50 points. It was #1 from start to finish of the submission process and probably the biggest landslide of a #1 song, of any rankdown I've hosted. 13 of the 14 lists had this in the top 8!! God bless Dennis Linde for his songwriting.

“Bubba Shot the Jukebox” is probably the song I still hear most on the radio as well and it still sounds just as good today as it did back then. The same goes for most of Mark’s early material as it was all quite strong and stacks up pretty well against some of the other greats during that time. Thanks again for your hosting duties sabre14 I had a great time revisiting his discography!

Fantastic top 2. SO GLAD that I'm not an outlier with my love for "Bubba Shot The Jukebox" here because that song is amazing on every level imaginable! OMG I jammed so hard to this when I was a kid lol, I would listen to it all the time. I adored the music, the melody, the vocals, the lyrics.... everything!!! THRILLED that it won! Thanks for hosting sabre14Someone needs to do a Tracy Byrd RD next lol.

Great winner! I would've preferred the other 'jukebox' song to win this thing, but both are among his best. Glad it wasn't "Big D" that won in the end. @ poor bboat11 tho.

I'm not mad about "Bubba" winning. I AM mad about "A Little Too Late" missing the top 5, and "It Sure Is Monday" barely making the top 5... Both of those songs are so catchy and immediately sing-along-with-able. They should have easily made a run towards the top 3... I LOVE "Goin' Through The Big D", but it feels more like a #6 song than IALTL does...
Also, I am shocked to see all this talk of "Brother Jukebox" being his signature song. Mark's biggest years may have been before I was old enough to follow country music, but I had literally never even heard it before this rankdown. "It's A Little Too Late", on the other hand, has been inescapable for basically my entire life... If I had ever had to tell somebody what his signature song was, I would have automatically said that one without even considering anything else! Lol

Also, I am shocked to see all this talk of "Brother Jukebox" being his signature song. Mark's biggest years may have been before I was old enough to follow country music, but I had literally never even heard it before this rankdown. I was kind of surprised by that as well. I was familiar with the song, but it never got the airplay around here that some of Mark's other hits did, even from what I can remember of the 90's. Pleased with the way this ended up though. Bubba is a deserving winner. Even if I've heard it a million times, it never ceases to be amusing. Mark had such a knack for transforming serious words into fun songs and this is probably his funnest. Just a classic country jam that more than stands the test of time.

Speaking of what a blowout this victory was, if you convert the winner to a percentage on a 100-point scale (which I do for all rankdown winners so they can be compared alongside each other despite each rankdown having different amounts of songs and participants), "Bubba" finished here with an average score of 10.86. This makes this the second most-agreed-upon country rankdown winner of all time!!!
The #1 is still "Independence Day" which finished the Martina McBride artist rankdown with an average score of 8.23/100.
The previous 2nd place, who is now 3rd place, is Lee Ann Womack's "I'll Think Of A Reason Later" which finished her artist rankdown with an average score of 11.62.

In terms of the gap between #1 and #2, this one SEEMS really large, but it is only the 24th-largest blowout victory. The difference between "Bubba" and "Big D" in this rankdown was 7.14 (again, converted to a total score out of 100). The #1 is of course still Kelsea Ballerini's albums rankdown, where "Peter Pan" shat upon the entire rest of her discography and finished a whopping 25.95 points higher than the #2 song ("XO").

Didn't get to follow along as closely as I'd have liked because of my trip but I'm very happy with the results. My top 3 was the top 3!!! Just didn't finish exactly how I'd like! Thanks sabre14 for hosting! :)
