What the hell did paper ever do to you fearlessarrow!! This song is one I'm also rather upset to see miss the Top 5. I didn't rank it quite as high (only a #4) but my Top 5 are great songs so there's that

“Unopened” is such a standout album track and I’m disappointed it wasn’t able to make into the top 5. Glad to see it got quite a bit of support, though, but seriously WTH fearlessarrow ?! I’m still expecting the title track to win so that just leaves the two other singles “True Lies” and “Shame About That” along with two other amazing album tracks. Here’s my predictions: 5. True Lies 4. The Week the River Raged 3. Shame About That 2. I Don't Wanna See the Light 1. Three Chords and the Truth

Sure! I just used the Country Tag List for tags, but I can add ClevelandRox for sure. This rankdown is off to a good start! It would have been nice to see "Unopened" in the top 5, but #6 is still pretty good.

The first top 5 casualty belongs to "I Don't Wanna See the Light," which remained neck-and-neck with the album's other non-single weeper ballad "Unopened" through the submission process as they fought over the possible distinction of being the top album cut of Three Chords and the Truth. Ultimately both lost out to "The Week the River Raged," however, which remains in along with the record's three hit singles. "Light" was also the final song standing without a #1 ranking, though a set of four #2 ranks depart here, plus four other top 5s. Ranks for this one were spread pretty evenly across the board, all the way down to being SHOOTER's last place and a trio of additional bottom 3s. Also, a bit randomly, even though two of the album's actual promoted singles never received music videos, for some reason "Light" had one.

Also SHOCKED that "The Week The River Raged" is the highest album track. It feels like one that would be polarizing. I'll take it though, as I love the song!!! Eager to see if it can sneak ahead of any of the singles!

Eager to see if it can sneak ahead of any of the singles! ... it didn't. Next up we see "The Week the River Raged" get flooded out of the top 3, where it lands 1-point ahead of "Light" and 2-points over "Unopened," meaning all three of these excellent album tracks contended for being the definitive non-single. In the end, "River" snuck narrowly ahead and back into the top 5 over the two ballads thanks to austin's last minute entry. One of the more modern production jobs on Three Chords and the Truth, the album closes with this Southern gospel-inspired number about a historic flood in Howard County, with a big anthemic chorus and dramatic strings and percussion. It landed at the bottom of Wavey✨️'s list, but on the other hand, it wound up scoring two #1s from Kanenrá:ke and taylor, the only album cut to receive more than one top rank (and the only other one at all aside from austin's last minute hail mary for "I've Got a Tiger Tail"). The three singles ultimately held it down in the top 3 for the vast majority of the rankdown (like probably after 4 or 5 lists in at most thru to the end), and #3 bested "River" by over ten points.

I was telling indulge this when I submitted for this album, but I happen to have been born in Howard County, Indiana! And twice in my lifetime, we've had a historic flood in my hometown of Kokomo. One when I was 2 going on 3, one when I was 12 going on 13. In 2003 and 2013. One worse than the other. And when I tell you that river raged!!!
Anyways I thought it was a really fun connection and added to the beauty of the song, I just had to put it at #1.

Definitely neat that the song is rooted in historical context! Are there legit stories of a historic flood happening in the area? Because this song existed several years before 2003. Lol. Also, was there a drug problem causing all the men to run around partying rather than working??

In the battle between the three singles from Three Chords and the Truth, Sara's debut single "True Lies" is the first to be ousted from the rankdown. A breezy number sung with an especially thick drawl, the infectiously twanged "True Lies" saw just one #1 rank from the participants courtesy of castleoblivion26, whose predictions that this would sail to a victory didn't quite come true. It held its own in this rankdown against the album tracks and stayed in the top 3, though it had some dissension in the ranks with two bottom 3 votes (though it eluded having a #11 rank, the only song to do so up to this point!). It racked up four #2s and in total about half of the submissions slotted this one in their top 5.

Didn't expect "True Lies" to be beaten by "Shame About That"! Both are good songs so I shouldn't be surprised...

I literally had no idea how to rank "True Lies". I could have put it anywhere between #2 and #10 depending on the day Right now I feel like I underranked it at #7, but then again I could take it or leave it most of the time, but that is literally how I feel about almost this entire album, so... Idk!

The river peaked over 18 ft above its base line.

Also SHOCKED to see "Shame About That" in the top 2! That song is literally circus music. It's catchy and quaint, but it sounds like it should be listened to under a large tent.

Much to probably nobody's surprise, the title track to Three Chords and the Truth absolutely obliterated the competition and totally ran away with this one. "Shame About That" only clocked in two points ahead of "True Lies" in the end, once again another close battle as these two lesser-regarded singles routinely flip-flopped positions (and "True Lies" actually had held the lead for the back third of the submissions or so... up until the last list switched their places one last time). Musically and lyrically the song's are rather polar opposites on their parent album. "Three Chords and the Truth" is a lengthy and slow weeper of a classic country ballad, built around Harlan Howard's famous phrase of the perfect country song's composure. It details a woman on a solo roadtrip as she leaves her significant other in the rearview, only to regret her decision on the open road when she scans the radio dial and gets hit with a relatable song that changes her mind, quite literally with 'three chords and the truth.' "Shame About That" is a rousing uptempo that clocks in at barely two minutes in length (making it a surprisingly brief song on an album with plenty of short songs) with a musical arrangement some have compared to having a likeness to circus music in parts. Her performance of the song is full of fun and personality as she jilts an ex-lover who has been left by the woman who replaced her, leaving Sara to laugh from a distance. Neither song lit up the country music charts for Sara back in the late 90s, but they did achieve peaks in the 40s. All but six participants ranked the title cut as their #1 song in the rankdown, and every single poster placed it top 5. "Shame About That" had the #1 support of someguy and Wavey✨️, and a top 5 from 2/3 of the participants, but the other 1/3 placed it in their bottom 3, including a #11 rank from Kanenrá:ke, the last holdout remaining.

"Three Chords And The Truth" is the only song on this album that can be put in a conversation among her all-time greats. It has been more or less forgotten in favor of more recent singles, but I have a feeling it would get a HUGE crowd response if she ever decided to dust it off again in her live show!

This album is so different than the catalog that made her commercially famous but it was nice to listen to most of it for the first time.
I LOVE Tiger By The Tail and don’t regret my ranking!

Ugh. I forget just how good the song “Three Chords” is sometimes. The clip of her singing for George and Loretta in particular gives me goose bumps! I REALLY REALLY hope her new material is a throwback to the sound of this song. I think it would be really well accepted right now.

5. "I Don't Wanna See the Light"
SHOOTER : 11 I was really hoping this wouldn't be the first song out of the top 5 as I think next to the title track is one of the biggest standouts on the album. And I for sure was rooting to see at least one album track make it into the top 3, but yea single bias. I probably underranked "Shame About That" as I'm not sure it was deserving of a bottom two placement, but when I listened to the song in the context of the entire album it kept falling further down on my list. I also need to be in the right mood to hear that song because it always gives me circus vibes. There's no denying that the title track is the best song so it's very deserving of a win...and what a landslide it was! I do appreciate .indulgecountry taking us back in time a bit with this, but I'm feeling a bit restless and wanting to get back to one of her more modern albums
