And with that, Patty Loveless becomes the first artist with multiple songs to be completely eliminated from this rankdown. "Half Over You" was yet another weird winner from her, which nobody really saw coming. This one did at least manage to get multiple #1s from participants in the album rankdown, but still. It does not sound like a rankdown winner, imo. Part of that is how old the album is. Patty was a brand new artist who hadn't really found her sound yet, and it was an album that saw very little success and has largely been forgotten in the decades since. So even the best song on it would feel out of place in a list of songs as strong as this one.

I'm sorry to inform you but that wasn't my #1 however, it was my #2 :/ I just double checked. Your list says that your #1 is "Half Over You"...but by Ashley Monroe... And of course I enter lists using song titles. So, based on song title, this was indeed your #1! Lmao but if you would like I can switch them for you.

We can go out and paint the town. We can dance your cares away. We can watch ‘em all fall out on the floor. And if you want to, we can close ‘em down, Or we can leave whenever you say. I’ll chase you down the hallway, Watch the sun come up behind our bedroom door.

Look at carriefan15 nail that prediction! "Love's Gonna Make It Alright" becomes the first male song to leave this rankdown, as we say goodbye to one of George Strait's many songs. This song only finished at #3 in the Here For A Good Time album rankdown, but famously got there by way of a 3-way tie for #1!! According to my 2-way tie rules, I felt like I had to include the 3-way tie as well. Unfortunately for this song, the passion was not quite there. Other than LBTrocks' top 10 and ClevelandRox's near top 10, a slurry of 20s and 30s ranks tanked this one. Nobody got a perfect ranking here, because it actually ended up dying at a lower position than anybody actually ranked it at Honestly, I used to love this song a lot more, but it has not aged very well for me, and I am not entirely sure why. It might be Chris Stapleton's voice being too loud on background vocals I guess...

I’ll need time to get you off my mind. And I may sometimes bother you, Try to be in touch with you. Even ask too much of you from time to time. Now and then, Lord, you know I’ll need a friend ‘Til I get used to losin’ you. Let me keep on usin’ you ‘Til I can make it on my own.

I knew it was only a matter of time until there was a reveal that really ticked me off... Lmao after the first Best of the Best rankdown, I'm honestly surprised it took this long! "'Til I Can Make It On My Own" is such a beautiful song! Just about everybody has a cover of this song, and hers is far and away the best Tammy Wynette's halo gets a little bit brighter every time she hears Martina sing this song. The Timeless album is definitely not everybody's cup of tea, largely because Martina was so true to her country roots that the album sounds like a bunch of songs from the '60s and '70s... But "'Til I Can Make It On My Own" is the one song on the album that she absolutely owns! Her version of this song is the definition of Timeless, in the sense that it transcends time. It is a cover of a song from the '70s, and yet it fits perfectly alongside any of Martina's songs from her own modern career. I was SO glad when this won, because it has always been my immediate favorite from the album. I have always thought if she had any chance of radio success with Timeless, it would have been with this song (because again, like I said earlier, it is the most modern-sounding song on the album). But y'all can stay disrespecting the classics, it's fine

George Strait is an absolute boss, but the singles from this album were a hot mess. "Cold Beer Conversation" is the best one, but is overrated. Between "Take Me To Texas", "Everything I See", and "It Was Love", an album track absolutely should have won this rankdown...

"Peace Sign" is such a sassy song! I LOVE sassy Jo Dee so much She does sass like nobody else can. Jo Dee just has one of those voices that oozes emotion, regardless of what kind of emotion it is. In this song, everything about her delivery is just so "Fuck you", and it is exhilarating. I have gone through phases where I listen to this song on repeat for like a half hour straight, just analyzing new aspects of her vocal performance. That being said, it has a very generic production job to it, and the lyrics might actually be considered annoying/cringey to some, so I could see where people who are less enamored with Jo Dee's voice might not have a whole lot to latch onto with this song. I mean, obviously those people are wrong, but I'm just saying I can see where that incidence would have potential to occur

Half your life you struggle, Half your life you fly. Half your life makin' trouble, Half your life makin' it right. One day I'm the exception, Most days I'm just like most. Some days I'm headed in the right direction, And some days I ain't even close.

It isn't bad, just not really deserving the #1 from that rankdown and hence making into this rankdown. I could say the same thing for Tequila in Revenge rankdown.

You could've let me drown, But you reached your hand out and You met me in the fire. You fanned the flames up higher. Could've left me for dead, But you pulled me from the edge. For loving me the way you do, I know I'm reckless, But you must be reckless too.

You could also say, THANK GOD this song beat "Tequila"!!! I can think of very few songs that deserve to be in the top 2 rankdown finishers list less than "Tequila"...

Pleasantly surprised to see "Burning Man" out this early after the shock I had of it winning the year-end rankdown. It's a solid song, but totally overrated. Seeing it only narrowly escape bottom 10 here makes me feel a lot better about its perception as a song.
Little disappointed that "Reckless" is out this low, but can't really say that I expected it to go much higher in this.

I've already summed up my feelings about "Even God Must Get The Blues" once before, but I will gladly do it again... What's to like about it? I actually found it totally unlistenable. I didn't even make it through the whole song! lol You mean other than the fact that Jo Dee's voice is molded directly from the afterbirth of the gods???
