I wish you would've laid your hands on me, That kind gon' bring me to my knees. I wish I would've let you lay me down, 'Cause I wouldn't be here wishing now. I wish I would've laid my hands on you.

With that, we will now take a brief break from taking out peoples' #1s. However, this next song does have multiple #2s...

I’m a whole lot easier to talk to When I’ve had a few. I settle down. The whiskey kills the man you’ve turned me into And I come alive. I’m livin’ for the night.

"Living For The Night" is such a powerful song. I am thrilled it was the highest George song, but it had no business missing the top half... The thing that strikes me most about this song is the dark songwriting. The entire vibe of the song is just so consistent and well-crafted. The lyrics are also the definition of poignant. There are some incredible lyrical moments in all the descriptions of why night time is a less painful time to be alive when you are going through an extreme tragedy (such as your teenage daughter being killed in a horrible car accident and you bottling up your emotions and refusing to talk about it for over 30 years...)

Let’s send the kids to grandma And call in sick to work. Put on some heavy metal, Rip the phone off of the hook. Go call your no good brother; We both know what he’s been growing. I’ll be waiting with the whipped cream, And baby let’s get going.

You're not sure that you love me, But you're not sure enough to let me go. Baby, it ain't fair, you know, To just keep me hanging 'round. You say you don't wanna hurt me, Don't wanna see my tears. So why are you still standing here Just watching me drown?

"Leave The Pieces" is a song that first became a winner thanks to the 2006 year-end country rankdown, where it managed to pull off a surprise win over Carrie's mammoth hit "Before He Cheats" (which to this day has yet to ever win a rankdown). It was in the first Best of the Best rankdown, where it also did really well, settling for a #10 finish.
Considering how well-loved this song is, it came as no surprise whatsoever when it also managed to win Cody's Country Groups Mania rankdown, making it a multi-rankdown-winner.
This song is very well-crafted, and very catchy, but I do think it is a tad overrated. Just a tad though. I'd still probably give it an A grade!

Glad I went to bed when I did last night because this rankdown has been nothing short of frustrating. I know that “The Fireman” is a polarizing song here on Pulse but I’m left scratching my head how this ended up on some of the lists as last place and bottom 10. And “Living For The Night” is the one George Strait song that should’ve made the top half at least, so yea I’m with LBTrocks and y’all can...

So happy Fireman is out. Without looking at the list again I think it is the only song on this list I outright dislike. It is one of the only George Strait songs I don't like.
Now Living For The Night is incredible and should have been higher for sure!!!

Well, most folks here, Well, they don't dig too deep. They can't dream too big, mmm, Cause they've got fields to keep. I could walk away and leave behind my family, Or get buried alive in this legacy.

Sugarland has one of the best debut albums I have ever heard, without a doubt Not only were the singles awesome, but there are also a handful of album tracks that could easily rival them! Seeing this song win the Country Songs You Wish Were Singles rankdown was a very nice treat, because this song absolutely is good enough to be a rankdown winner, yet it is one of those songs that probably never would have gotten a chance to win otherwise. If an album rankdown series ever happens for Sugarland, I completely expect to see the big singles "Baby Girl" and "Something More" to fight it out in the top 2. Incredible album tracks like "Fly Away", "Twice The Speed Of Life", "Tennessee", etc. will probably have more luck when put in rankdowns with a bunch of other album tracks, because they are all good enough to hold their own against the best album tracks from just about any other artist!

My last 2 bottom 10s going anywhere soon? #43 might take a little longer but clearly I underestimated the number of people who take the artist behind #47 seriously

Maybe one of them souped up muscle cars; The kind that makes you think you're stronger than you are. Color don't matter, no I don't need leather seats. All that really concerns me is
Speed. How fast will it go? Can it get me over her quickly? Zero to sixty, can it outrun her memory? Yeah, what I really need Is an open road And a whole lot of speed.

My last 2 bottom 10s going anywhere soon? #43 might take a little longer but clearly I underestimated the number of people who take the artist behind #47 seriously I would describe Montgomery Gentry as an artist that Pulse does not necessarily take as seriously as they probably deserve. Flirting with the top 20 is absolutely amazing for them in a rankdown like this, especially after a legendary artist like King George was already brutally eviscerated like a dozen times! But then again, "Speed" is an incredible song, regardless of how seriously you take the artist. MG may not always be everyone's cup of tea, but there is not a single reason why anyone should dislike "Speed" simply because it is sung by MG! It lacks the pompous swagger that rubs some people the wrong way in some of their other big hits.

Not sure what it is but every experience I've had with the band has had me coming out feeling like "Huh, so these guys are popular *shrug*" You are definitely not alone in that regard! They do rub a few people the wrong way. It's probably got something to do with their rock-leaning production and tendency to gravitate towards uptempo party songs. However, the uninspired bottom-feeders Jason Aldean and Brantley Gilbert have since replaced MG as the rock-leaning partiers, and have accordingly reminded the world just how good we had it when MG were the ones in charge of that niche... Lmao!

"Speed" is one of a small handful of MG songs that is truly excellent. Among this great list of songs, it only barely managed to escape my bottom 10, but I loathe a lot of their big hits so that's honestly impressive for me that they didn't land down there, lol.

I guess I can't complain all too much considering I'm doing well but some songs going this early ("Drinkin' Man" & "Cold Beer Conversation") are a little head scratching.
