This song is already starting to take off a little at Alternative. It will most likely be the second single.
How high can this one go?
I'd say Top 3 for sure, with an outside chance of #1.

I'm not sure of an exact peak, but this will probably do very well. It's one of my favorites on the album.
I'll say #1 out of optimism.

I heard this and I think it has a good shot at #1, it could also do very well on pop. Although I am surprised to see "Adam's Song" and "Stay Together for the Kids" have not charted on pop. Did they go for adds? Anyway, I'm definitely going to say Top 5 alternative for this song.

Yeah, I also agree that this is probably their best shot at a CHR/Pop hit.

Yeah, I also agree that this is probably their best shot at a CHR/Pop hit. My Pop station at the beach played "Adam's Song" a lot, and this was released in the summer, I was there to enjoy that. Anyway, as much as I want Blink to get a major hit off this album at Pop, I only want them to have one Pop hit an album so they can keep Alternative as their core format and not join their lame ass wannabe's at Pop.

The "Adam's Song" video came out in December or January, not the summer. It could have gotten played in the summer but was released before then.

The "Adam's Song" video came out in December or January, not the summer. It could have gotten played in the summer but was released before then. Their videos always come out early. "All the Small Things" was being played on Pop during winter/ early spring of 2000, so Pop wouldn't be playing a follow-up til the summer.

Yeah, I also agree that this is probably their best shot at a CHR/Pop hit. Are you guys serious? I Miss You is pretty melodic and everything, but to me Always screams pop hit. I can't see Miss You doing better than Top 20, but I could see always going at least Top 10 on pop.

The "Violence" video was already shot.
Not that they can't still release "I Miss You" next, but I just felt like saying that.

The "Violence" video was already shot. Not that they can't still release "I Miss You" next, but I just felt like saying that. It's possible "Violence" could be a European single and then the third North American single. They did the exact same thing with "First Date". For those of you saying this song sounds like "Adam's Song", how? I mean, maybe to different people this song sounds like different things, but this sounds nothing like "Adam's Song" to me. If anything, it sounds a little bit like "There Is" by Boxcar Racer, but not much. Not that it means I think it sucks. I really like it. Like "Adam's Song" and "Stay Together For The Kids", it a tangent from the bulk of their stuff. In fact, it's possible it'll be hitting my personal chart as early as next week.

"I Miss You" is already #60 on the Alternative chart, so it would be kind of stupid not to release it.

I just heard this on the radio for the first time tonight... and then the second time too LOL. It sounds great on the radio.
This is now Top 50. Stations in NYC, LA, Boston, DC, Detroit, Seattle, etc are all on it. With all these major cities playing it, and in high rotation for that matter, this is pretty much the unconfirmed second single. If they planned on something else, my guess is that something else wi,ll now be up third.
If it weren't for the new Incubus, I'd say this is guarenteed #1. Instead I think it'll take the #2 curse again, like "Feeling This." We'll have to wait and see though.

I love the track and hope it makes a big impact, and the only thing I could see that might hurt it a little are the lyrics. And those lyrics are actually the very thing that make me enjoy it. It's poppy, but it's still dark enough for Mark to talk about "the shadow in the morgue" and Tom to sing about "spiders catching things and eating their insides." It's like they wanted to write a romantic type acoustic song w/o going the way of cliched, Simple Plan lyrics. I know risque lyrics are common on pop, but I just wondered if these in particular would turn some stations off. I hope not.

Regarding RedSummerSun's post, first i agree that these are awesome lyrics.
But I don't think "I Miss You" is all that poppy. Pop-friendly - definitely... but actual poppy, no. The music arrangement of the song is completely different and seems really organic/creative. It goes against the overproduced/formulaic sounds of a Pop song like Simple Plan.
I also think the chorus is amazing... it's so simple but yet so unique. Definitely not a Pop chorus like "Perfect" or "Hold On" or whatever else the wanna-be-but-can't-be Blink posers have out right now.
Anyway, this song is now #46 and #28 in audience.

Definitely not a Pop chorus like "Perfect" or "Hold On" or whatever else the wanna-be-but-can't-be Blink posers have out right now. I agree with all this. I've been thinking about it, and I kinda consider "Perfect" to be the derivative of "I Miss You". I don't mean derivative to slam the song, but we've been studying derivatives in calculus. The derivative is the graph of the slope of a curve. It's basically a simplification of the curve. So basically, you can say "Perfect" is a simplified version of "I Miss You" Of course, some derivatives can be more complicated than the parent curve. Such as the derivative of the square root of cos(x 2 - 2x). So, in another sense you can say that "I Miss You" is the derivative of "Perfect". OK, well, maybe not. ;) Nonetheless, I think they're both good songs, but the Blink song is much better in comparison.

Nonetheless, I think they're both good songs, but the Blink song is much better in comparison. Exactly! It's like comparing a vacation in Florida to a vacation in Fiji. Both are enjoyable, but Florida is so common and not a big deal compared to Fiji. Same with "Perfect" and "I Miss You." But to be honest, I often don't get why the bands are even comapared. Blink is a credible band that puts out music as an art form. Simple Plan is a commercial band that exploits the kind of music Blink does to make Pop songs. Their songs are far more Pop than Rock/Punk/Emo whatever. Totally not anywhere close to being in the same league.

Simple Plan is a commercial band that exploits the kind of music Blink does to make Pop songs. Their songs are far more Pop than Rock/Punk/Emo whatever. Totally not anywhere close to being in the same league. Yeah, plus the fact that, in my opinion, Simple Plan is really just a whiney group of kids who could probably pass for juniors at my high school. They just got lucky with "Perfect" with interesting instrumentation combined with the tone of the lead singer's voice (which isn't that good anyway) and a somewhat interesting video (which actually kinda reminds me of "There Is" by Boxcar Racer, only not as good) Whereas, Blink is more mature (loosely speaking) and just sound more experienced with life, at least at this stage. I think "I Miss You" is a real quality song. It's basically "Perfect" with every facet of the song 100 times better. And even then, there's more to it than that. I agree wholeheartedly that these two bands should not be compared. On a side note, I must say my favorite part of the song is Mark's quiet "I Miss You"'s in the chorus. It's very haunting. I imagine the video as a kid trying to win the adulation of a girl, but failing. Throughout the video, an imaginary doppleganger stands behind her, and says Mark's "I Miss You" line while the guy tries to win her over, or something like that. The imaginary guy is supposed to represent the guy's longing and obsession with her. At the end, he fades away, signifying the love's unrequited nature. LOL, that probably sounds really cheesy, but if I was gonna direct it, that's probably what I'd go with.

Again I completely agree with everything in insect2's previous post. We're definitely on the same page here!
Actually, I really like your video concept. If they use the right sort of imagery/ color schemes, etc I could really see that working out well. I really hope Blink makes a really mature and groundbreaking video for this song. Blink always makes good videos, but they've yet to make a great one that really take you to the next level.
Anyway, insect (real name?) do you have blink's cd?

Anyway, insect (real name?) do you have blink's cd? Not yet, although I have heard "Violence" in addition to this one and "Feeling This". All three songs are great. I've been considering getting "Enema of the State", but I haven't seen a good deal for it anywhere lately. Maybe I'll try to get the current album for Christmas, though. My real name is Michael, by the way. But I'm cool with people calling me insect as well. :)

Not to like go off topic but I think Simple Plan is a great band. I find most of there stuff a helluva lot better than anything blink released after "Adam's Song" of course that was up until "I Miss You"

I don't see how Blink 182 is a credible band. Maybe to pop fans, but they're definately not real punk/rock music anymore. They've definately alienated their original fans. I like their some of their music, but they don't have as much credibility as they used to. On their last CD, they were releasing one boring song after another. They're just growing older and becoming more mature I guess. Simple Plan have even less credibility. They had more credibility under the name Reset when they were a small punk band from Quebec. Download their song "Why" or the video. I think they were 15 years old at the time. It might also have all the same band members.. not sure. "Perfect" is a great song!
