This looks set to hit #1 on HCS. Like Old Town Road, it is big on TikTok. This one has a dance.

This isn't country, at all. But damn it's catchy as hell.
Do I want to hear it on country radio, no. Would I dance to it at a club, hell yes!

It's so catchy. This honestly doesn't bother me at all - I actually thought it was Kane Brown the first time I heard it.

"Old Town Road" at least is a good song that isn't country. This is a bad song that also isn't country. Ugh.

Sounds more country than "Old Town Road" with that pedal steel, in my opinion. And at least Broken Bow's a country label?

This is a lot countrier than OTR and countrier than some songs on country radio, so I would be fine with this getting some play here. I’m predicting that this is gonna be #1 on HCS for 20+ weeks, with how ridiculous that chart is.

This is absolute trash, country or not. He's awful. "Old Town Road" was at least a good song, but this isn't at all.

The “Git Out” is more like it.

Does this have any significant Country Airplay? Still below the Top 60 at 0.786m in airplay.

When will country songs STOP incorporating airplay from other formats?

When will country songs STOP incorporating airplay from other formats? I think this is actually selling and streaming more than "God's Country", to be fair.

Probably is but that doesn’t change the fact that the song is below top 60 on country radio but somehow because of pop airplay (it has over 3 million audience impressions) it’s the no.1 country song this week.

This has always been an interesting topic for me. Should a panel of radio stations determine if a song is country or not? In other words, why does it matter if only pop stations play this particular country song at the moment? If it's a country song, it's a country song - regardless of which antiquated, corporate-driven radio formats are playing it (or not). If a song is "country" but also climbs the pop airplay chart, that's probably totally normal and acceptable to most - and any other format airplay it may get all counts. But if a country song gets ignored by country radio, why should it lose its genre classification for the Hot 100? Isn't that giving radio too much power, especially in this day of on-demand streaming? Thoughts? There are many factors that determine genre. Marketing, musical elements, etc. I think the Hot Country Songs chart is fine, mostly. It should be about the most popular country song.

I think "Meant to Be" dominating the HCS for almost an entire calendar year because of crossover airplay was a solid indictment of why other genre's airplay stats factoring into the chart is problematic. Because of the strong sales/streams for it, "The Git Up" would've hit #1 on HCS soon anyway though, even if it takes awhile for the country airplay to catch up.

I mean do we see country radio playing this very high. This screams polarizing to radio listeners. I doubt it does more than Top 30. But who knows maybe the over crushing of sales will have radio ignore testing.

It will be interesting to see how country radio reacts to this one because they generally do very little with country rap in terms of airplay. Colt Ford is the only country rap artist who ever really got any traction at radio that I can recall and even then he always peaked in the 50-60 range in airplay with all of his stuff. That said, this song is hugely popular already which is in contrast to like 99% of anything that comes out of the country rap genre. I could see it making the top 40 at country radio because of that, but I definitely don't see it being a smash there since it will be quite polarizing.

What I find interesting, and I think needs to be noted, that this is more performing like a country single than a hip-hop single, in that this is doing far better in sales than audio streaming. It's currently #3 on iTunes (and was the second best-selling song of this week behind "Old Town Road"), but only #34 on Spotify and #42 on Apple Music.

I think there's a misconception here that this is #1 on Hot Country Songs because of airplay from other formats. That is definitely NOT the case as airplay is the smallest component of the chart, and the 3m AI it has is virtually nothing in the grand scheme of things. This is on top due to sales and (especially) streaming as these are the heavy components that make up the Hot 100, and thus HCS. It's not a coincidence that the streaming country chart and HCS charts look similar in the top half, and why the #1 country airplay song doesn't necessarily dominate the chart. Even when Meant To Be was #1 for a year, airplay at other formats was already dead for weeks and weeks. It was (and still is) a streaming giant.

But if a country song gets ignored by country radio, why should it lose its genre classification for the Hot 100? Isn't that giving radio too much power, especially in this day of on-demand streaming? Thoughts? I disagree in some ways but it's a muddied situation. When you have all genre radio factored into HCS instead of just country radio, then you need some arbitrary method to determine if a song is "country" or not. Hence the situation with Old Town Road where I envision a boardroom full of stiff suits debating over whether to include it on HCS or not based on their gut feel on if it is "country". Gives too much power to just a few people. Using a panel of Country radio stations to determine if something should be on HCS makes more sense as the "experts", the people who play country songs for a living, are collectively determining which songs are truly country songs. Of course there are problems with that method as well, two that I can think of offhand: 1) How much Country airplay is needed to classify a song as "Country"? Old Town Road hit #50 I believe on Country radio so is that good enough or should the rule be something like "must be on the country radio charts for x number of weeks"? Or perhaps it must be a song that is actively being promoted to Country radio. The above method seems reasonable for songs that are borderline in their audio qualities, but say you had a situation where an obvious Country song went viral for some reason but radio hadn't picked up on it or it wasn't being promoted to radio; that song based on sales and streams should be on Hot Country Songs even though radio isn't a factor. So like I said, it a tough situation to call but those are my ideas anyway.

This song is nothing. Broken Bow is just trying to copy the success of old town road.
They would love for this song to be kicked off the HCS chart so they can play the race card and get this song in the news and make it go even more viral. Controversy = Cash

This guy is ATROCIOUS. His voice is a joke. This song is hot garbage. Just when you think it can't get worse, country continues to hit new lows.
