Lil Nas X's 'Old Town Road' Leads Billboard Hot 100 for 19th Week, Ariana Grande & Social House's 'Boyfriend' Debuts in Top 10
8/12/2019 by Gary Trust
Grande earns her 14th top 10 and 10th to debut in the region. Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road," featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, extends its record domination atop the Billboard Hot 100, topping the chart for a 19th week. Two weeks ago, "Road" rewrote the mark for the most time atop the tally, as, with a 17th frame at No. 1, it bested "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, featuring Justin Bieber, and "One Sweet Day" by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men, which ruled for 16 weeks each, in 2017 and 1995-96, respectively. Elsewhere in the latest Hot 100's top 10, Ariana Grande and Social House launch at No. 8 on the chart with "Boyfriend." Let's run down the top 10 of the Hot 100 (dated Aug. 17), which blends all-genre U.S. streaming, radio airplay and digital sales data. All charts will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (Aug. 13). With a 19th week atop the Hot 100 for "Old Town Road," here's a look at the 10 longest-leading No. 1s in the chart's 61-year archives: Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist, Date Reached No. 1 19, "Old Town Road," Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus, April 13, 2019 16, "Despacito," Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber, May 27, 2017 16, "One Sweet Day," Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men, Dec. 2, 1995 14, "Uptown Funk!," Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars, Jan. 17, 2015 14, "I Gotta Feeling," The Black Eyed Peas, July 11, 2009 14, "We Belong Together," Mariah Carey, June 4, 2005 14, "Candle in the Wind 1997"/"Something About the Way You Look Tonight," Elton John, Oct. 11, 1997 14, "Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)," Los Del Rio, Aug. 3, 1996 14, "I'll Make Love to You," Boyz II Men, Aug. 27, 1994 14, "I Will Always Love You," Whitney Houston, Nov. 28, 1992 As on the Hot 100, "Road" (on Columbia Records) leads the Streaming Songs chart for a record-padding 19th week, with 58.8 million U.S. streams, down 13%, in the week ending Aug. 8, according to Nielsen Music. "Road" set the record for the top streaming week (143 million) following the April 5 arrival of its remix solely with Cyrus (who has been billed on 18 of the song's 19 weeks atop the Hot 100) and claims nine of the 11 biggest streaming frames to date, including the top three. "Road" concurrently spends a 15th week atop the Digital Song Sales chart, with 34,000 downloads sold, down 28%, in the week ending Aug. 8. The track boasts the second-most weeks logged atop the list, trailing only "Despacito," which ruled for 17 weeks. On Radio Songs, where it reached No. 2, "Road" falls 17-21, down 11% to 38.5 million audience impressions in the week ending Aug. 11. Meanwhile, "Road" leads the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts for a record-breaking 19th week each, breaking out of a tie for the longest command in the history of each ranking. On Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, the track bests the 18-week domination of Drake's "One Dance," featuring WizKid and Kyla, in 2016. On Hot Rap Songs, "Road" passes the 18-week rules of Drake's "Hotline Bling" (2015-16); Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX (2014); and Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott's "Hot Boyz," featuring NAS, EVE and Q-Tip (1999-2000). (Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs began as an all-encompassing genre chart in October 1958 and Hot Rap Songs launched in March 1989.) "Road" additionally tops the Songs of the Summer chart for an 11th frame, having led the list each week since its annual return after Memorial Day. Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy" notches a ninth total week at its No. 2 Hot 100 high, as it rises 4-3 on Radio Songs (94.7 million, up 4%) and dips 2-4 on Streaming Songs (35.6 million, down 22%) and 5-7 on Digital Song Sales (18,000, down 11%). Below "Road" the entire time that it has ranked at No. 2 on the Hot 100, "Bad Guy" is (as of now) just the fifth non-No. 1 in the chart's history to peak at the runner-up spot for at least nine weeks, and is a week from potentially tying for the most time peaking at No. 2. Here's a recap of the No. 2 hits to spend the most time at their highpoints: Weeks Peaking at No. 2, Title, Artist, Peak Date 10, "Work It," Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, Nov. 16, 2002 10, "Waiting for a Girl Like You," Foreigner, Nov. 28, 1981 9, "Bad Guy," Billie Eilish, June 8, 2019 9, "You're Still the One," Shania Twain, May 2, 1998 9, "I Love You Always Forever," Donna Lewis, Aug. 4, 1996 As for the continued Hot 100 rule of "Road," it and "Bad Guy" decline by 15% and 12%, respectively, in overall metrics, as the former sports a nearly 1.2-to-1 points difference over the latter, essentially maintaining its margin of victory from last week. Elsewhere, "Bad Guy" becomes Eilish's first No. 1 on the mainstream top 40-based Pop Songs airplay chart, as it spends a second week atop Alternative Songs. Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's "Senorita" stays at No. 3 on the Hot 100, after debuting at its No. 2 high on the chart dated July 6; Lizzo's "Truth Hurts" is steady at its No. 4 best; and Khalid's No. 3-peaking "Talk" keeps at No. 5, while leading Radio Songs for a ninth week (127.2 million, down 2%) and Hot R&B Songs for a 16th week. Chris Brown's "No Guidance," featuring Drake, repeats at its No. 6 Hot 100 peak and Ed Sheeran and Bieber's No. 2-peaking "I Don't Care" is stationary at No. 7. Ariana Grande and Social House soar onto the Hot 100 at No. 8 on the chart with "Boyfriend." The collab begins at No. 2 on Digital Song Sales (31,000 sold, also good for a No. 1 bow, marking Grande's sixth leader, on Pop Digital Song Sales); No. 7 on Streaming Songs (25.9 million U.S. streams); and No. 40 on Radio Songs (24.6 million in audience). Grande achieves her 14th Hot 100 top 10, having nearly doubled her total in just over a year; "No Tears Left to Cry" debuted at its No. 3 peak on May 5, 2018, and "Boyfriend" marks her sixth top 10 since (a sum tied with Post Malone for second-best in that span, after Drake's 13). She notched her first eight top 10s in 2013-16. "Boyfriend" is additionally Grande's 10th top 10 Hot 100 debut, making her the fifth artist to reach the milestone, after Drake (20), Taylor Swift (15), Eminem (12) and Lil Wayne (11). Social House, the duo of Charles Anderson and Michael Foster, makes its first Hot 100 visit. Meanwhile, the title "Boyfriend" hits the Hot 100's top 10 for a second time. Bieber's same-named song (but different composition) reached No. 2 in 2012. Post Malone's "Goodbyes," featuring Young Thug, descends 8-9 on the Hot 100, after debuting at its No. 3 peak, while becoming Post Malone's sixth Radio Songs top 10 and Young Thug's second (13-10; 52 million, up 9%). Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Lil Tecca's "Ran$om" spends a second week at its No. 10 high. Drake Becomes First Soloist to Pass 200 Appearances on Billboard Hot 100 Chart
8/12/2019 by Xander Zellner
Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP/Shutterstock
Drake attends the premiere of the series "Euphoria" at the ArcLight Hollywood, in Los Angeles on June 4, 2019.
He's now up to 203. Only the Glee Cast has more, with 207.
As Drake celebrates his ninth No. 1 Billboard 200 album, as his compilation Care Package launches atop the Aug. 17-dated chart with 109,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music, he makes history by becoming the first soloist, and just the second act overall, with at least 200 visits to the Billboard Hot 100 songs survey.
Drake debuts six tracks from Care Package on the Hot 100, upping his grand total to 203 entries -- all in just over 10 years, dating to his arrival with his breakthrough track "Best I Ever Had" in May 2009. In the 61-year history of the Hot 100, which blends streaming, airplay and sales data, only the Glee Cast has accumulated more entries: 207.
Drake reaches the milestone thanks to the Hot 100 debuts of "Trust Issues" (No. 58), "How About Now" (No. 60), "The Motion" (No. 61), "Dreams Money Can Buy" (No. 68), "Club Paradise" (No. 85) and "Days in the East" (No. 95). All six songs are from Care Package, which collects 17 of Drake's stray tracks, many of which were never officially released and previously available only via SoundCloud or YouTube.
Here's an updated look at the acts with the most Hot 100 appearances (through the Aug. 17-chart):
207, Glee Cast 203, Drake 163, Lil Wayne 109, Elvis Presley (whose career predated the Hot 100's launch) 103, Nicki Minaj 100, Jay-Z 96, Kanye West 95, Chris Brown 91, James Brown 88, Future 80, Taylor Swift 75, Eminem 75, Ray Charles 73, Aretha Franklin 72, Justin Bieber 71, The Beatles
Of Drake's 203 Hot 100-charting hits, 35 have hit the top 10 (the second-most after Madonna, with 38) and a record 99 have reached the top 40.
Drake boasts six Hot 100 No. 1s: as featured on Rihanna's "What's My Name?" (for a week in 2010) and "Work" (nine weeks, 2016) and his own "One Dance"(featuring WizKid and Kyla; 10 weeks, 2016); "God's Plan" (11 weeks, 2018); "Nice for What" (eight weeks, 2018); and "In My Feelings" (10 weeks, 2018).
In July 2018, Drake made Hot 100 history by charting seven simultaneous top 10s (concurrent with the Billboard 200 start of his LP Scorpion), passing The Beatles' record of five that had stood since 1964. Last September, Drake ran up his streak to 29 weeks atop the Hot 100 in 2018 (via "Plan," "Nice" and "Feelings"), passing Usher for the most time atop the chart in a single year. Usher tallied 28 weeks at No. 1 in 2004.

Billie Eilish's 'Bad Guy' Hits No. 1 on Pop Songs Airplay Chart
8/12/2019 by Gary Trust
The track concurrently tops Alternative Songs for a second week.
Billie Eilish's breakout 2019 adds another chart milestone, as "Bad Guy" hits No. 1 on Billboard's Pop Songs radio airplay chart, dated Aug. 17. The track (released on Darkroom/Interscope and remixed last month with Justin Bieber, with the duet version scoring pop radio play along with the original) is Eilish's first Pop Songs No. 1 and second entry on the chart. It debuted on April 27, a month after her "When the Party's Over" bowed. Both singles scaled the chart through mid-June, when "Party" peaked at No. 17 and promotional efforts segued to "Bad Guy."
The songs are from Eilish's debut LP When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, which launched as her first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart in April and has spent three weeks at the summit to date. ADVERTISING

The set's "Bury a Friend" topped the Alternative Songs airplay chart for two weeks beginning in late May, and "Bad Guy" hit No. 1 on the survey last week and remains on top for a second frame. Eilish became just the third female soloist with multiple Alternative Songs leaders, following Alanis Morissette (three, 1995-96) and Sinead O'Connor (two, 1990).
The Pop Songs chart measures total weekly plays, as tabulated by Nielsen Music, among its reporting panel of 168 mainstream top 40 stations.
All charts will update tomorrow (Aug. 13) on Billboard.com.

Tool Has a Record-Shattering Week on Rock Charts Thanks to Streaming & Digital Debut 8/13/2019 by Kevin Rutherford
Plus, 5 Tool albums hit the Billboard 200 & new single "Fear Inoculum" marks band's first appearance on the Hot 100 since 2001. Two high-profile new moves in the long career of Tool -- who released their first new song in 13 years and made their entrance onto digital and streaming platforms for the first time -- allow the hard rock act to storm Billboard's rock charts in record fashion (on surveys dated Aug. 17).
We'll start with albums, none of which Tool has released since 2006's 10,000 Days. Still, the band's four studio sets enter the Top Rock Albums chart after their arrival on digital services (both for purchase and streaming), led by 1996's AEnima, which debuts at No. 1 with 33,000 equivalent album units earned, according to Nielsen Music. Tool's 2001 album Lateralus follows (No. 2, 27,000 units), with 10,000 Days re-entering the tally at No. 4 (24,000 units) and 1993's Undertow rounding out the top five at No. 5 (23,000). By claiming four of the top five on Top Rock Albums, Tool becomes the first act with at least that many in the region in the list's history, besting Linkin Park's mark of three on the Aug. 12, 2017, chart following the death of frontman Chester Bennington.
Tool also takes four of the top five spots on Hard Rock Albums, also the first act to achieve the feat. On the all-format Billboard 200, four Tool LPs re-enter, led by AEnima at No. 10, while Undertow reaches a new peak at No. 19 (besting its prior No. 50 high in November 1993). Plus, 1992 EP Opiate reaches the Billboard 200 for the first time ever, at No. 59.
Song-wise, 13 Tool titles reach the streaming-, sales- and airplay-based Hot Rock Songs tally, where older entries can chart if they rank in the top half and have a meaningful reason for their resurgence.
The haul is led by "Sober," one of Tool's signature songs, which bows at No. 3. A No. 13 hit on the Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart in late 1993 (marking Tool's first Billboard airplay survey appearance), "Sober" enters with 2.9 million U.S. streams and 21,000 downloads sold.
"Sober" is followed by the No. 4 debut of "Fear Inoculum" (more on the new song below), with "Schism" starting at No. 5 (2.6 million streams; 15,000 sold), after it reached No. 2 on Mainstream Rock Songs in 2001.
Tool ties another chart record by landing seven titles in the Hot Rock Songs top 10, a feat shared with Linkin Park (Aug. 12, 2017).
On the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, Tool holds 15 of the tally's 25 spots, including the entire top 10, marking the first time that an act has occupied the top tier. Queen previously held the record, snagging eight of the top 10 for two weeks in March, powered by buzz for the band's Bohemian Rhapsody biopic. "Sober" leads at No. 1, becoming Tool's first Rock Digital Song Sales leader.
Tool also takes 17 of the 25 positions on Hard Rock Digital Song Sales, including the top 14. That (you guessed it) is also a record, although one shared with Queen, which infused the top 14 twice, for a week each in March and last November.
Moving on to "Fear Inoculum," Tool's first new music since 2006's 10,000 Days debuts at No. 4 on Hot Rock Songs after its Aug. 7 release, garnering 3.9 million streams and 17,000 downloads through the tracking week ending Aug. 8.
Additionally, the song launches at radio, debuting at No. 20 on Mainstream Rock Songs and at No. 28 on the all-rock-format Rock Airplay chart, garnering 2.6 million audience impressions through Aug. 11.
The track is Tool's first Billboard Hot 100 entry since 2001, bowing at No. 93 on the all-genre chart, and grants the group another record: At 10 minutes and 21 seconds long, it's the longest hit in the Hot 100's 61-year history, as well as the first to run over 10 minutes. "Fear Inoculum" is the title track from Tool's fifth studio LP, due Aug. 30.
