I remember seeing "Neocon" going for adds in late September until "Hit That" later replaced it. That wouldn't make any sense, though. "Neocon" is one minute and six seconds long.

No Im not being sarcastic....what in Defy You is novelty...what about Self Esteem or Gotta Get Away...Im not sure you understand the definition of novelty. Do they have novelty songs....for sure but clearly not any of those 3....Pretty Fly for a White Guy=Novelty....Self Esteem=not novelty. Its pretty evident

I said that "Defy You" could pass as not novelty. "Gotta Get Away" isn't as much novelty as songs like "Why Don't You Get a Job" but it qualifies because it's unnecessarily obnoxious, while being harmlessly annoying. I'll let you think of it as non-novelty if you insist, though. But on the other hand, there's nothing about "Self Esteem" that's not novelty. There's the la-la-la's at the beginning, excessive use of colloquial words & phrases, and portrayal of a disturbing subject in a humorous light.

Just so we're clear, are we saying that "Hit That" is novelty as a whole, or because of the catchy instrumentals? Because, aside from those instrumentals, I wouldn't say the song is really much of a novelty song. Maybe it's the way Dexter sings it or something.

Personally, when I think of novelty, I think of a humorous or radically different song that would not be popular if not for it's "novelty" Often it means a very strange sounding song.
While I've went along with people calling the Offspring's songs novelty for a while here, the fact is, I don't think they are. I think these songs make it for more than just their humor but maybe that's just me.

i downloaded the whole "Splinter" album last night, not a bad album... but definately not classic sounding like their first few albums were (for the record "Americana" was mostly a novelty album, most songs have that same novelty sound)

Does anyone know the second single yet?
Or does anyone know what songs are listed on the sticker on the album in stores?

ya, "self-esteem" and "Gotta Get Away" are DEFINATELY not novelty songs. Howiedayfan is using the term too loosely.

I've listened to the first 7 songs off the album so far, and I like "(Can't Get My) Head Around You" the most, but it's a little short at 2:15. "The Worst Hangover Ever" is OK, but I doubt they'll release two novelty-type songs in a row (although they did with "Pretty Fly" and "Why Don't You Get a Job" ). "The Noose" is decent. I don't remember "Long Way Home" or "Race Against Myself", but I didn't dislike any of the songs I heard. And of course, "Neocon" is an intro-type song.

That's right, I looked and "Hit That" is the only song listed on the sticker. Also, was the 11 explicitives a joke by them?

" Neocon" 1:06 " The Noose" 3:18 " Long Way Home " 2:23 " Hit That" 2:48 " Race Against Myself " 3:32 " (Can't Get My) Head Around You" 2:14 " The Worst Hangover Ever" 2:58 " Never Gonna Find Me" 2:39 " Lightening Rod" 3:20 " Spare Me the Details" 3:24 " Da Hui" 1:31 " When You're In Prison" 2:33 4 songs over 3:00, 3:32 being the longest..

I really think "Spare Me the Details" or "Race Against Myself" would be good second singles.
"The Worst Hangover Ever" should be a single, but not the second one. It should be a single over the summer.
