...This being #1 on iTunes is well....it's not shocking but it sure as hell still is a disrespect to true artistry and talent. Then again that's just commonplace in the industry.

#1 on iTunes is like 30k. Let's not act like that means anything at this point. I wish iTunes would track and nielson/soundscan would accept how many times songs are played after people purchase them. If it sold 30,000 copies for the week and each person played it 10 times that's 300,000 streams. If people love the song they may continue playing it and each week more people buy and play it. The charts only care when songs are making money I guess.

Will this debut in the Top 10 of the Hot 100? It’s still #1 on iTunes.

Will this debut in the Top 10 of the Hot 100? It’s still #1 on iTunes. Its #24 on Spotify. So most likely it will debut around #15 to #20.

It's doing awful on streaming though which tells the real story. It doesn't even have a real video yet. This is Maroon 5, not Taylor Swift, Cardi, BTS or any or those types of newer acts whose image and rabid young fanbase drive activity more than the actual music. They don't have 100 stan accounts on twitter demanding everyone to "STREAM MEMORIES NOW!!!". These dudes have been going strong since the early 2000s, before "streaming" was even a thing. Very different from most acts that are still relevant today. Usually, Maroon 5 does best with a solid video that creates a buzz and then gets people into the song. Still #1 on itunes, btw. Which makes sense for the age group of their audience, who are used to just...buying music.

The variables you mentioned may be considered but the statement I made remains a fact at this point. And in 2019, "their audience who are used to just...buying music" is very, very small.

The variables you mentioned may be considered It's more than just a "variable". It's their entire gameplan. All of their biggest recent hits came with successful videos. Sugar = Viral Video Girls Like You = Viral Video Don't Wanna Know = Pokemon Go Viral Video When was the last time Maroon 5's streaming numbers blew up off of an audio only video? Like I said...they aren't Taylor Swift or some newer act that trends on twitter when they burp, or gets a billion streams fueled by a rabid stanbase. They're just a band. Not how they operate. Trivialize it all you guys want...but, the fact that it's STILL #1 on iTunes means people like the song. Enough to PAY for it. Now it's just down to awareness. Which is where a good video comes in. Assuming they even make a video.

Hey M5 fans, let's be friends! This song is...pretty and I am a sucker for Pachelbel's Canon so I smiled the minute I heard it. Also, Adam sounds great. Another smash for Adam & The Gang. I think this would be a really good song to crack a cold one with the boys with. For sure. Not Miller Lite though. More like White Claw. Definitely a sad bro song.

In an age where bands aren't even killing it like they used to. This is why I keep "repeating myself". Your trajectory doesn't have to follow that of Taylor Swift to be successful. Most hits don't follow that trajectory. Most hits don't come out the gate #1 streaming, #1 on Hot 100, etc. BRANDS do that.

imagine trying to say that Maroon 5 isn’t a brand. every musical artist is a brand, they all have consistent messaging and products to promote. don’t conveniently downplay facts to peddle your arguments.

imagine trying to say that Maroon 5 isn’t a brand. every musical artist is a brand, they all have consistent messaging and products to promote. Taylor Swift "brand" vs Maroon 5 "brand"...which one has singles that go to number #1 on various metrics without even trying for the past several years? (hint: Not Maroon 5) Which one drops a single/album/anything and it trends all over the internet immediately? (hint: Not Maroon 5) Which one has a stronger online (a.k.a. younger) fanbase presence? (hint: Not Maroon 5) Which one would you say is more powerful? Yeah. Exactly. Adam isn't on the Voice anymore, so you can't even use that. Expecting similar trajectory to Taylor Swift from Maroon 5 is folly. They NEVER rolled like that, even with some of their biggest singles. The only ones downplaying are y'all. How many times have I heard people on this board use "it's not even selling well on iTunes, so it's not doing that well" as an argument? Then when an act you don't like is doing well, suddenly "iTunes doesn't even matter". Now, it's "the streaming numbers aren't doing well...even though it hasn't even gotten real radio play yet or a video or real promotion yet. It's "only" #25 on a list filled with newer acts half their age. Why wasn't it top 10 immediately?" Gee, I don't know!

I don't get it, are you trying to prove that nobody cares about Maroon 5? this. the argument shifted from “the song is a hit! they go #1 on YouTube all the time” to “Maroon 5 is a flop no one cares about, they don’t even have a brand!” like which one is it??

I honestly think you guys are so biased against this band that you are not truly trying to understand the very coherent point that was made. It’s not that complicated, just look at their chart history. Their biggest hits typically build over time with streaming, particularly after the release of a viral video. They are clearly radio darlings and certainly fit in perfectly with the iTunes crowd now. I know you guys don’t want this to be a hit and don’t understand why others do, but here we are.
Basically, this song is doing exactly what it should be doing to become another M5 smash.

What I mean is that anyone who dares give any ounce of criticism towards this band on here is met by at least one crazy fan who can't seem to comprehend that making a criticism and being a hater are not the same thing. And then having your opinion be completely dismissed because of it is asinine. It's toxic.
