Artist: Rayne Johnson Single: “Front Seat” Label: Studio2Bee/Legend Entertainment
Rayne Johnson is a new artist. This one charted a couple weeks on Billboard this month, reaching #58. This one looks like it got the Cumulus block adds this week. Over 20 stations have added it now.

Wow, color me impressed. This guy seems to have a really strong voice. I like his tone quite a bit here... and this song is really pretty, and dare I say it, a huge step above most of the songs plaguing charting in country currently. I'm interested in hearing more from him.

Never mind, this got an Entercom pre-arranged deal.

This is so bad. Lyrically it is just a re-thread of songs like Love Ain't or Break Up With Him by being too wishful thinking. It also has a weird pop/club beat that persists throughout the song, and his vocals are just basic. Hard pass for me.

This song went from not charting last week, to #43 on Billboard Country Airplay. It’s in light-to-medium rotation on all Entercom country stations.
They’re not publicized like iHeart’s OTV program but I know Cumulus and Entercom have their own deals where songs get into these similar programs...I’m just shocked this song is part of one.

I think the only part of this that stands out is that I feel like he has a decent voice, but the song itself musically, lyrically, and the way its produced all just feel really lackluster. It just has this off-putting demo-y, secondary radio release from an indie artist vibe to it. If only Entercom could flex that power on something truly great instead of a song like this.

I agree - it sounds like an unfinished demo.

Impact on January 13th next year according to Country Aircheck. Also this guy just followed me on Twitter for apparently no reason at all.

Echoing the sentiment that it sounds demo. He does have good vocals, but personally I'm not feeling his voice here.

So, Studio2Bee is headed by promotion and industry veterans Butch Waugh and Skip Bishop. They've been in the business for years and most notably with Sony Music Nashville in the 2000's. Bishop was the CEO of HitShop Records as well. They're in a partnership with Legend Entertainment and Mark Liggett, who has worked with many pop and rock artists. Rayne Johnson is essentially their flagship artist and only focal point. They already got this one into medium rotation on Entercom country stations, so they're going to try and get this one to take off after the new year with an impact date.

If only the production was just a bit better, and not the demo-y kind--other than that, I really like the song and I think he has a terrific voice. Hoping this at least takes the Top 20 because I'll take boyfriend country over bro country any day of the week and twice on Sunday

Just heard this and I very much agree. Really loved his voice and that alone will have me checking up on him in the future, and I do like the them of the song, but the lyrics themselves are weak with the production sounding like either an American Idol coronation song or the fourth place loser from Songland.

Sorry for the double post, but Rayne Johnson just followed me on Twitter and I have no idea why, lol. Usually up-and-comers do that, I've had it happen to me before. Hoping country radio begins to really play this in 2020.

I like this song but it feels a little emotional for its lyrics. Being in the back seat instead of the front isn’t the end of the world...

I get that, but I have posted nothing to give him any reason to even notice me. Unless he somehow read this thread and connected me to my twitter somehow.

Looks like this song went recurrent on Billboard this past week, so far reached a peak of #34 on the Airplay chart. I don't foresee this song re-entering, and even if it does re-enter I doubt it makes it much higher as this song is really lagging behind in total stations on the Mediabase Panel, lacking adds, and has been jumping around the mid to upper 30s for the past couple months on the chart.

It's a good song - but very contrived, and yet another which panders to women by telling them they're wonderful ("You could be my queen sitting on your throne/Girl, you know you got one") while men emphatically aren't ("He said 'not tonight baby, can't make it'/Yeah you know, you should'a known"). But as Bruno Mars said about his own paean to female perfection '[You're Amazing] Just the Way You Are': "What woman wouldn't want to be told that?"
