how did I end up with the best rankings in the top ten...this almost never happens ... I think once I came in 1st or 2nd in a more pop oriented rankdown, but NEVER rock
... looks like I’m gonna make a run for the top but there are a few of you that will be hard to catch

Let's see how many more top 10's I can ,lose tonight? 23. Something I Learned Today - Hüsker DüThe bass guitar pulled me in more than the vocals. The bass guitar is pretty much the structure of the song. The lead just follows the bass. Finally you all got one ranking right. 22. A Million Miles Away - The PlimsoulsYou all have to revisit 1983. Seriously WTF? 8D This was my first time viewing the MV, but I must have heard this 1000,000 x on KROQ (back when KROQ was cool). Post punk at its absolute best. A #24 peak on my own personal charts. 21. Stand Up and Shout - DioPULSE just doesn't appreciate the fierceness of Ronnie James Dio. I'm actually kinda glad a few rockers upgraded this one higher than me. 20. Halo Of Flies - Alice CooperI love this song. It sounds like an Alice Cooper circus. From the intro to the end. Great song! hey I was kidding about losing more top 10 tonight. Stop that shit already.! 19. A New England - Kirsty MacCollFirst time listen, but sounded right up my 80's alley. The female vocals sounded really great too. very uplifting. Sad lyrics don't affect me when the song is this much fun. 18. Darkness on the Edge of Town - Bruce SpringsteenI can be quite unfair to Bruce sometimes depends on his song. This one was borderline alright. 17. Turnover - FugaziNever heard this one before. The intro was a slo burner. It picks up a bit, but I'm not a fan of his vocals. There is a slight Brian Johnson hint in his tones, but the music didn't fir the gruffness. 16. Dancing Barefoot - Patti SmithThis was sacrificial filler material on this list. The melody is alright, but her vocals don't song to me. 15. Autumn Sweater - Yo La TengoThis is one of those songs I didn't like at all.It had everything to do with those vocals, and the music didn't pull me in the right direction either. 14. Birthday - The SugarcubesSpeaking of vocals. I cannot stand this chick's singing tones. The music and her tones are going in different directions. Does she purposely deny following the song's melody? I know its not much of a melody to begin with, but damn it isn't that hard to follow. "Spitting fire" would have sounded better. 13. Little Fury Things - Dinosaur Jr.This band is 90's aren't they? Anyway' Start Choppin" is a masterpiece compared to this one. There is a way to play guitar and then there is noize. 12. I Will Dare - The ReplacementsNot bad, but not too memorable. I'm guessing something we will rank in late 80's Alt? 11. Tunnel Of Love - Dire StraitsThis is Dire Straits (x)teenth time revisiting "Sultans Of Swing". That was probably the reason I liked it more than usual, but seriously I remember how fools were teasing Nickelback for "Someday" and "How You Remind Me" for having basically the same melody. LOL! to this song.

The Kinks - All Day and All of the Night They Might Be Giants - Ana Ng The Jam - Going Underground Neil Young - Heart Of Gold Modern English - I Melt With You Hoodoo Gurus - I Want You Back The Psychedelic Furs - Love My Way Dick Dale and his Del-Tones - Misirlou My Morning Jacket - One Big Holiday XTC - Senses Working Overtime
There isn't much fire left in that top 10, but there are a few songs that I can consider true classics.
Also Grandfather "grunge" is still in this list? And I thought I was predictable. ;)

I've followed, but to be honest, the speed of these reveals have kept me from commenting for the most part.
The top 10 isn't bad at all.
To be fair, only my #36 was the one song I didn't like and it was OK.

#10 took the long road to the top 10, and only ever got as high as #7. 2 top 5s are lost, as well as 4 top 10s. Overall, 15 ranks are somewhere in the top 18. There are 4 bottom 6s, most of which are these posters' last bottom 6s, plus another bottom 10.

This makes me want to seek out the Gurus' earlier work. This was really good, better than any song of theirs I've heard previously.

#9 actually spent the whole rankdown in the top 10, and was in a few early versions of the top 5. Out of 3 bottom 10s, the 2 bottom 6s are both clearers. There are also 5 more bottom 18s. We see the first #1 loss of the top 10, plus 4 more top 5s and 3 more top 10s.

This is technically my favorite discovery. I've heard it before, but only in passing, and I didn't really have a great recollection of the song before listening to it here, but MAN, this was good.
I've been sleeping on The Jam.

#8 is the last song without a #1, though both its 2 top 5s are pretty close. 4 more people ranked the song top 10, and 10 others at least saw fit for a top 18. 3 of 4 bottom 10s are bottom 6s, and the latter are all the same rank, though only 1 of them won't have any more bottom 6s after this reveal. This song also took a while to gain its head of steam and, just like "I Want You Back", #7 was its ceiling.

I really want to go back and re-do my ranking for "Birdhouse in Your Soul" in 1990. I can't believe I ranked it as low as I did...it would probably make my top ten now.
For that matter, this is not too far off from "Birdhouse".

The Jam are one of those bands I've heard a lot on the radio, but they've yet to completely resonate with me :/

2 of the 3 bottom 10s for #7 are bottom 6 clearing bottom 2s. 5 more people ranked this song bottom 18. 5 people ranked this song merely top 10, but 3 people gave this song 1 each of every possible top 3 rank. Even though it only spent the two early lists outside the top 13, it didn't spend a lot of time in the top 10.

This was a Hot 100 #1. Somewhat crazy to think about, even given the timeframe.
Then again, 1972 was a pretty decent year for Hot 100 #1s.

#6 is the final high (or notable at all) SD: the 2nd highest. A sizable point gap emerged between this song and "Heart of Gold", that being 46. A whopping 9 rankings are top 5--2 are #1s. There are 4 more top 10s, but only 2 more top 18s. 5 people ranked this song bottom 10. 3 of these are bottom 6s, but not everyone will be clearing that range for themselves. This song was outside the top 10 on two occasions early (though never lower than #12 and it also reached the #4 spot early), after which it resided at either #6 or #5 for 15 of the last 16 movements.

Well, I was expecting this song to be top two.
The "2nd highest SD" part shocks me even more, though. I have no idea what makes this song so divisive.

#5 was the song fighting "Love My Way" for top 5 in the final stretch, though it spent less time in the top 10 overall. 3 #1s are executed here, accompanied by 3 top 5s and 6 top 10s. 7 bottom 18s leave us, but only 2 are bottom 10

My favorite MMJ songs are on Z and, funnily enough, Evil Urges (though it's really just two or three on that album), but "One Big Holiday" is damn good. It only missed out on my top ten because I didn't have "Heart of Gold" in it, and that felt like a mistake, so this just fell out at the end.

All of our top 4 were top 10 locks the whole way, and all 4 spent a list at #1, but 2 songs went further and never left the top 4. #4 is the first of those 2, and the earliest leader. 12 top 10s go down. Of those, 8 are top 5s, and to get more detailed, another 3 #1s drop out of the race. 6 bottom 18s weren't of much deterrence to this song, although the fact that 2 of those were bottom 10 might've hurt a little.

I like that you said that cause those are my top two MMJ albums. If I was ever proficient enough in running rankdowns to make it to an actual FOAT, I planned to put Gideon there.
