Oh. "A Matter of Trust" is another one that I remember, strangely enough.

My Top 20 untouched! I can't believe it. I anticipate my #4 will be divisive (a different song from the same album was included in Red's recent rankdown). Surprised that John Mellencamp made it this far, especially after his relative poor performance in prior rankdowns.

50. The Rain - Oran "Juice" JonesI remembered this jam. This was actually pretty cool back in it's day. I'm glad he kicked that bitch to the curb. 49. Walk the Dinosaur - Was (Not Was)This was the ultimate silliness of Pop. Was (not Was). I really wish it wasn't. 48. Friends - Jody Watley with Eric B. & Rakim The one song by Jody Watley I really hate, and it's not even her fault. It's those two other cameos who ruin the listening experience for me. 47. Pop Goes the World - Men Without HatsThis was passable. It had melody, but I really hate music box effix. 46. Finish What Ya Started - Van HalenI'll give it a pity rank because of who they are, but I really can't do much with this particular Van Halen song. 45. Put a Little Love in Your Heart - Annie Lennox and Al GreenOne of the worst corporate pair Ups the music industry threw at us. Just so you know I would have squashed the idea of pair-ups and cameos way before they even started. 44. A Matter of Trust - Billy JoelBilly has sooo many stellar songs, but this was one of the most unmemorable ones ever. 43. I Wanna Go Back - Eddie MoneyThis one deserved better. The chorus made me come back for more. 42. Holding On - Steve WinwoodDecent but not great. 41. I Beg Your Pardon - Kon KanThis particular song appealed to me for the vocals and Hi-NRG synths.

80. Who Do You Give Your Love To? (80): This was a first listen. The song started promising, with some Journey-like melodic stuff, but it didn't have enough strong melody throughout the song to make me rank it below this spot. Another PERFECTO! 79. Superwoman (86): I was expecting much more from this song, as I like two other songs by her. This was just too boring for me. 78. All I Wanted (41): This was another first listen that kept creeping up in my ranking the more I listened to it. I liked the melody quite a bit, and of course the strong vocals. Even the prog synth was a good touch of the past. Good discovery for me. (I don't get the 'country' references here :-? ) 77. You Should Be Mine (61): This was the type of smooth R&B that I dig and doesn't bore me :) The Woo Woos were a bit cringey, but other than that it was a solid offering, that I was very close to rank in my top half. 76. Stone Love (94): This was such a disappointing first listen. Likely the worst K&TG singles I've heard. I'm not sure if they were trying too hard to bring back their sound and utterly failing to make it cool, or what else happened here. Clear bottom 10 for me. 75. Sincerely Yours (51): :( I barely recall this one from back in the day. A fun dance pop song with the type of beat and Latin flare I really like. The girls did a good job here. Romeo JD didn't, but girls overcompensated. 74. True Love (79): It's all about the chorus in this song, including the background vocals. Production sounds a bit dated now... An Ok song. 73. It Would Take a Strong Strong Man (43): ??!!! Why so low? There are A LOT of worse songs than this one still around. He does a great job vocally here, and the background vocals and melody are also very strong. I really liked this song back in the day, making my personal top 5. Although this had a more mature sound and vibe than his uptempo songs, I liked that it kept the retro vibe and this showcased his style. A strong 80s ballad that deserved a bit better. 72. When I Looked at Him (73): I thought I was gonna rank this higher, but at some points the production / melody felt a bit disjointed, and with a bit too much of cheese.. 71. Iko Iko (87): FINALLY! The production is what saved this one from being in my bottom 10, but it's still an unnecessary, unremarkable cover. 70. Heartbeat (42): Regardless of him being the Miami Vice guy, the song was a JAM. A medium hit back home and a personal top 10. It was good to listen to it again after many, many years, and feel it's aged pretty well for me. Melody is great, instrumentation is typical strong rock-pop song, and frankly Don does a pretty good job singing this. 69. We're Ready (91): I really wanted to like it, but it didn't do anything for me. I didn't dislike it like most of my bottom 10, but I just felt it was forgettable. 68. Parents Just Don’t Understand (76): I thought this was gonna in the top half, so I'm actually pleasantly surprised that it stopped at this position. 67. Don't Know What You Got (14): :o I didn't like this song -especially due to the vocals- back in the 80s, but with time I've come to accept most types of vocals and be much more forgiving when they emote. This dude emotes like few in his genre IMO. The melody is super strong. The strings add that bit of drama that I appreciate. The lyrics are good as well. I thought I was gonna rank this in my 40s, but the more I listened to it with open mind the more I liked it. This was my biggest surprising high ranking. I totally get why some ranked this song low because of the vocals. I still think this is a pretty strong hair metal ballad. 66. Just Because (39): This is another case of a song I thought I was gonna rank 20+ spots lower than I did. This was actually a first listen that captured me. The vocals are superb, and the smooth vibe was surprisingly very appealing to me. I believe this is the highest I've ranked an Anita Baker song so far... 65. Crazy About Her (33): Nothing new here, as Rod is often tanked This was a personal top 5 back in the day. I liked the production, instrumentation (drums, sax, percussion, guitars), melody, and that overall strong vibe. I've been listening to this song in long trips for a few times in the past couple of years :) 64. One Heartbeat (95): I think I was a bit too harsh with this one, but it passed my already high cheese tolerance --I guess that organ sound was especially at fault 63. Cry (75): A first listen that resembled a George Michael wannabe. Good enough melody, but just not that memorable of a song. 62. I Won't Forget You (35): Although I wasn't a big fan of the song initially, I warmed up to it after hearing the song a lot on radio and watching the video lots of times. It ended being a personal top 10 back in the day, and now it has attached to it lots of secondary school memories. 61. Because of You (38): And I LOVE the style and energy of this song. The chorus is FIYAH, and the pre-chorus does a great preamble job. Was hoping it could make the top half :(

At #36 is an artist that we haven't seen before in an 80s rankdown. This is the first song to be revealed that spent time in the top ten having done so early on.

Blow Monkeys clearly came 10 positions too early. Look at all those 26! Good set of reveals for me.

I got a strong Scritti Politti vibe from this song, which is a very good thing. #58
You Know I Love You… Don't You? Howard Jones craziaskowboi : 11 I like the frantic pace of this song, and it sounds to my untrained ears like it's written in the key of C minor, which gives it a darker tone. Excellent song by an underrated musician. Uptempo smooveness. Some of you just can't handle it. Oran "Juice" Jones is a pimp. This is a fun song. This song has a bit of a country rock vibe, which was surprising to me, given that Van Halen went in a more prog-rock direction during the "Van Hagar" era. #45
Put a Little Love in Your Heart Annie Lennox and Al Green
craziaskowboi : 19 I've always thought this song sounded pleasant, though I can understand why some people might find this duet to be forced. Scrooged is a great Christmas movie, by the way. OK, here's the deal: I like Eddie Money (R.I.P.), and I want to like this song. I really do. In fact, I'd rank it at least 50 positions higher if not for the outro, which is a loud, muddled mess. Vocals and instruments are meant to complement each other, not compete with each other, and the outro sax ends up trampling all over the vocals, which just sounds awful to me, and ruins an otherwise good song. (As another example, listen to the entire second half of "Raise Your Weapon" by deadmau5 featuring Greta Svabo Bech.) The outro sax would have been a great outro on its own, without the chorus continuing, but being played over the chorus just wrecks it for me, and makes this my least-favorite Eddie Money song of all. Be that as it may, Eddie redeemed himself by following this up with "Endless Nights," which is my favorite song of his. This is an underrated song. Wild, crazy, fun party rock!

#40: I have a soft spot for Kenny, and this isn't bad, but it's not a patch on his best songs. #39: This song is problematic, to put it mildly. Still, nostalgia prevented me from ranking it any lower. The fact this did better than "Walk This Way", though...yeah, yeah, I know, differences in competition, but geez. #38: This is pretty decent. Jody's career as a whole is "this is pretty decent". #37: This is...kind of boring? It's not bad, though. #36: Took long enough for this rankdown to take care of my first top 20. In terms of sound, this isn't the first top 20 I expected to lose, but it's expected because of the "not a big name" factor.

The artist at #35 hasn't been in any other 80s Hot 100 rankdowns either. This song struggled near the finish and ultimately ended up at its worst rankdown position.
