My small complaint towards this album is how boring some of the instrumentals can be due to production choices. High Ridin' Heroes is the opposite. The instrumental breakdown is amazing and nails the nostalgic feeling.

I actually had "The House That Built Me" at #3! I really enjoyed Tanya's take on the song.

So Hard Luck (and other similar songs) is on the bottom half of my list because of the harmonizing. They are huge distractors in quite a few songs in this album. Plus this song is repetitive.
I'll save my comments for The House That Built Me later because it is most likely not #7 at this point. This cover of Miranda Lambert's song is still good melodically. It is the rewriting of narrative that makes it have less impact than the original. Particularly the bridge "They leave home, they move on, and you do the best you can/I got lost in this ol' world and forgot who I am" instead of the first person narrative in both lines of original version. It would make more sense if the two lines are refering to the same person. I think this song is a self-reflective song and so it should be events did by the narrator instead of others.

I actually put The House That Built Me at #10. It's good song but I think Miranda's version is way better.
Edit: I saw that you fixed the rankings :)

#5 and #6 are tied in points, and just 1 head ahead of #7. Any guesses?

I was like “wow recordyear and I have similar tastes for this album” then of course “The House That Built Me” came along and proved my thought wrong...

I definitely hear what you're saying but I think it is also so impactful as the mom in the song. In Tanya's version, her kids have left home, but she is still thinking about the hom that shaped her family.

It's either arguable or inarguable that Miranda's THTBM is much better (and I agree--both are incredible, but there is something about Miranda's for me.) However, it's just such an incredible song that means a lot to me, especially having just left home in August to start college. That's why I felt like I could relate to Tanya--or at least my mom can. After all, her only child has branched out on their own. When I heard Tanya's version, I cried. Both versions (spoiler alert for .indulgecountry ) will be getting #1 placements in their albums from me.

I'm somewhat surprised that "Hard Luck" couldn't escape the bottom 3 as it was an instant favorite of mine when it was released and has made for a great song to play on road trips...plus I loved watching Tanya in the music video as she looks like she's having a ball. I do wish that "The House That Built Me" had at least managed to make it into the Top 5 as her version is every bit as good as the original but definitely sung from a different perspective as someguy made reference to. Tanya's weathered voice lends gravity to the song and gives it a certain texture that just sounds hauntingly introspective. At this point I really have no idea of what to expect as I thought both of these two songs would've been in the Top 5 so I'll take a wild hare guess that "I Don't Owe You Anything" will be out next.

Her version of "The House That Built Me" pales in comparison to the original. It's not inherently 'bad,' but it is totally unnecessary. I just can't bring myself to give it repeated listens.

As I said before, our #9-#3 were very close, and one more list could have made all the difference in moving a song around in that range. Our top 2, however, were each pretty set in their positions. I'll reveal them a little bit later tonight.

#2 - I Don't Owe You AnythingFinishing in second place is "I Don't Owe You Anything". This is the song that stood out to me when I first listened to the album, and I still love it. From muttering "Oh, I've got something to say" at the very beginning, to the playful way that she sings the chorus each time, this is classic Tanya, and you can tell that she's having a lot of fun with it. It's definitely a highlight of her live show. #1 - Bring My Flowers NowTo probaby no one's surprise, "Bring My Flowers Now" ran away with this. It received 6 #1 ranks, and got less than half of the points of our #2, which itself was a decisive finisher. Outside of a pair of #6s, it was in everyone's top 4. This is the song that has earned the most praise from the album, including three Grammy nominations, including Song of the Year in the general field (the album itself received a fourth nomination). This is the song that (by far) got the biggest reaction from the crowd when I saw her live last month. Total points - 33 bboat11 - 1 Adrian C. 🍓 - 1 Kanenrá:ke - 1 .indulgecountry - 1 recordyear - 1 fearlessarrow - 1 someguy - 2 taylor - 2 SHOOTER - 3 Cody Wants Out... - 4 BackwoodsBarbie - 4 tim - 6 born - 6

I told you it was coming for anyone that put this in last place lol...now that we got that out of the way this is a great tune that builds up as it continues along and by the end it's a jam! I expected to see a lot of varied rankings for each one of these songs including this one so I'm at least happy to see it make the Top 5.

“Bring My Flowers Now” is a gorgeous song and one that has grown on me the most, but even still I would probably only move it up one or two spots as there are still a few other songs that I put on other than this one. That said, this is a very deserving winner and I do hope it wins Tanya a Grammy next year! “The Wheels of Laredo” still remains my favorite song from this record, but as I mentioned previously I did expect results to be mixed for this album and that was very evident here as it received everyone from two #1s all the way down to two #10s. Pleasantly surprised to see “Mustang Ridge” make it into the Top 3 because this was another song that I kept coming back around to when I first listened to the album and it seemed to be a favorite amongst the crowd when I went to her cd release party here in Austin… Which speaking of here is Tanya and myself! Not a great picture but it was a treasured moment for sure. Thanks for taking the reins on this someguy!!

I was like “wow recordyear and I have similar tastes for this album” then of course “The House That Built Me” came along and proved my thought wrong... But overall our tastes are still quite similar for this album. The Day My Heart Goes Still is too plain in melody and lyrics. The key changes in Seminole Wind Calling are too much. It should have stopped at around 3 minute mark. So Hard Luck (and other similar songs) is on the bottom half of my list because of the harmonizing. They are huge distractors in quite a few songs in this album. This also applies to The Wheels Of Laredo and Mustang Ridge. Agree with your take on I Don't Owe You Anything. Sassy Tanya is good. What Bring My Flowers Now stands out from others is the profound statement of "treasure the loved ones before they're gone". Maybe the sentimental feeling makes Grammys voters nominate her. Thanks for hosting someguy . Didn't expect it would be finished in a day.
