up until earlier this week i had no clue that Hoobastank had a new album out... today i checked online to find out that "Reason" had been out since the beginning of DECEMBER! Now i know the band never had a huge following, but didn't they at least deserve some kind of promotion when the album first was released? A month with barely any word might hurt the chances of the band (what's worst, i still haven't heard the first single!)
what do you all think of this situation?

"Out Of Control" went Top 10 at Alternative. The second single "The Reason" goes for adds soon. I don't like "The Reason" at all.

I've stated before that I can't believe how low-profile this sophomore release and first single has been. It made the top 10, but with a very low audience, and I haven't heard it on the radio anymore than 10 times myself.
My girlfriend has this album but I haven't had the chance to listen yet.

It seems like there are a lot of alternative rock bands who have their debut album go platinum on the success of a huge first single and then a less, but still successful second single that get absolutely no promotion for the follow up album.
Just seems like record labels will take a chance on signing a low profile rock band and release a super catchy song, cash in on the success of the first album and then release a follow up that is dead on arrival.
Another recent example would be Default...

Puddle of Mudd's new album is also struggling. I thought this album would be huge. Wrong. Fans just aren't sticking with new bands. There are too many bands that are pretty much making the same kind of music with some variances but not enough to make them stand out. Of course, the fact that most of these bands stink might also be a factor.

I know personally the 1st Hoobastank record was much better same goes with POM so that could be one reason they are not doing well

Hoobastank isn't being cursed nearly as much as Puddle Of Mudd in comparison though.
Hoobastank's debut sold well, but only went platinum, putting their sophomore albums expectations not so strenuous, while "Come Clean" went triple-platinum I believe, and when your follow-up hasn't even gone gold yet, that is a dangerous sign for any band living this pattern.
Hoobastank may be able to hang in there, while Puddle Of Mudd are in hot water at this moment. "Life On Display" is probably struggling both because of poor promotion and of the awful reviews surrounding it.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton
