2019 is coming to a close, opening the gates for a new year, a new decade even, full of new moments and music. Since I haven't posted any of my personal charts this year, I thought I'd take the opportunity and talk about my favorite songs of 2019. This won't be as professional as some others might do it but I still want to talk about these songs as this year had been all about GROWTH for me, I've learned a lot. I'm not tagging anyone, unless someone wants to!

50. We Lied To Each Other - Olivia O' Brien
Olivia O'Brien is a name not many people come across nowadays. Known solely, for her work on the Top 10 smash single "I hate u, I love u", the 20-year old singer has released a lot of underrated singles like "RIP" or "Sad Songs In The Summer", however she would only appeal to a smaller audience. This song of her debut album "Was It Even Real?" (spoiler: it likely wasn't) is track #5 and deals with building up walls and breaking them again in any kind of relationship. She is being very defensive but it's clear to see how sensitive she is. However, no matter how hard times were, she'd always do it again. This taught me how hard it can be to be in a one-sided relationship, not receiving the love one's desiring and having the feeling of never being the one that's right. Nevertheless, I'm not alone, there are always people who feel like this. At least I'm aware of how things went down now, knowing we both lied and we're both no innocent.
Favorite line: I lied when I said I don't care, and you lied when you told me you did. Release date: April 26 Peak on my chart: #2

49. Go Somewhere - KREAM ft. RANI
Something completely different is up next. A low-key dance-pop bop. This is pretty representive of several tracks that barely missed this list that are similar to this in style. I adore the production on this song, its rhythm is super addicting and fun. It was the perfect song for a quick summer trip (which I had several). Not much too say about this one, just had a lot of great memories with this, the vocals on the final chorus though!!! This taught me that with the right people, sometimes all you need is a little time off to feel better!
Favorite line: I got this feeling we should go somewhere. Release date: August 16 Peak on my chart: #6

48. Slide Away - Miley Cyrus
Miley planned to released 3 EPs this year and started this project off with May's "She Is Coming" (shout out to "The Most" uuh) and met, well, no big success. Followed by the break-up of her then-husband she released "Slide Away" as an anthem. Its haunting strings, melodies and vocals are truly breath-taking. I love the verses and then the chorus just takes you to another dimension. This taught me that sometimes in life certain things or people just disappear or leave us but it's important to be able to move on. We're never alone.
Favorite line: Once upon a time it was paradise, once upon a time I was paralyzed, think I'm gonna miss these harbor light but it's time to let it go. Release date: August 16 Peak on my chart: #4

47. Love Myself - Olivia O' Brien
Released as the 4th single from her debut album, this stood out to me as the best song. Olivia sings about how she needs to love herself before starting any kind of relationship. I love the way you can hear her emotions in the song, she seems very desperate as it is very hard to just love herself. I love the bridge as well, beautiful. Obviously, this taught me to love myself. It's sometimes important to put one's well-being above anything else. You should always think about yourself, too, instead of just giving to everybody.
Favorite line: I need to love myself before I love anyone else and I don't need your help Release date: February 1 Peak on my chart: #3

46. bury a friend - Billie Eilish
This had the whole world stop for it when it was released. The first Billie release that felt like a moment with its dark and kind of scary visual. Her vocals on this sound amazing especially due to her trying to make them fit the visual and style of the song. The instrumental is crazy and I love that! The first chorus goes super hard and it just makes you interested and listen again. The bridge is another highlight. This cemented itself as one of my favorite Billie Eilish tracks. This launched her into the mainstream showing that it's OK and kind of cool to be different being a valuable thing I learned.
Favorite line: Why do you care for me, when we all fall asleep, where do we go? Release date: January 30 Peak on my chart: #2

45. Truth Hurts - Lizzo
Lizzo is the other new big female star of 2019. This superhit first released in 2017 brought a lot of fun to the table. The way she raps and rhymes during this track is something else, very unique and uplifting! The beat immediately moves you, well there's nothing left to say about this song. Truth Hurts, and that's OK. As long as we know it's important to accept that even if it's hard sometimes.
Favorite line: I just took a DNA test, turns out I'm a 100% that bitch Release date: September 19 (2017) Peak on my chart: #6

44. Baggage - Gryffin ,Gorgon City & AlunaGeorge
Gryffin released a phenomenal debut album this year (shout out to "Nothing Like You" for very precisely describing something I've been through) containing this jam. There are so many bops on the album but they all have deeper meaning. The production on this track is awesome, it goes forward and it's so much fun! The melody is catchy and the lyrical content really caught my ear. I've learned I'm not alone if I can't let go of something but sometimes I need to. Even if there's still stuff in my head that will never be solved but as long as life continues it shouldn't matter.
Favorite line: You made it impossible to forget cause you left all your baggage in my head. Release date: September 19 Peak on my chart: #7

43. it's not u, it's me - Bea Miller ft. 6LACK
Bea Miller released her debut album "aurora" last year. Since then she's released several stand-alone single (shout-out to the emotions portraied on "Never Gonna Like You"), this one featuring 6LACK being the clear standout. The minimalistic production has a lot of little flings that make the experience super interesting. (example: the way she sings 'bullshit' in the second pre-chorus) 6LACK's verse is also super fitting and a nice addition to the track. Like others on this list already, this taught me being alone is not a problem because you should think about yourself first, you're the only one you need!
Favorite line: I wanna lay under the stars and hear the ocean when I'm talking bullshit, high with the people that are real Release date: March 1 Peak on my chart: #4

42. SICK - CXLOE ft. gnash
Simple. Basic pop girl (Aussie) releases a basic pop song. I love it. The instrumental is super cool and diverse throughout the different portions of the song. The verses are very simple, I like the prechorus but what makes this song is its catchy hook! The chorus' melody is infections and the post-chorus is hauntingly beautiful. Sometimes a little fun is all you need even if it makes you feel sick. Everyone is kind of sick somehow so why shouldn't we be, as well?
Favorite line: I want you to make me sick, love me out my mind Release date: August 8 Peak on my chart: #3

41. ILLENIUM w/ Jon Bellion - Good Things Fall Apart
ILLENIUM is one of my favorite producers, his style is calming yet danceable and unique. The verses on this are guitar-driven and smooth while the chorus has heavy drums. You can definitely hear the emotion in Jon's vocals when he sings about losing something that was a good thing for a while. Glad this did something on the Pop chart! I'm coming to terms with a broken heart, I guess that sometimes good things fall apart. (sums up what this taught me)
Favorite line: (basically the whole chorus) Tell me what you hate about me. Whatever it is I'm sorry. I know I can be dramatic but everybody's saying we've had it. Release date: May 13 Peak on my chart: #19

40. Rooting for you - Alessia Cara
I loved Alessia's earlier singles like "Here", "Scars To Your Beautiful", and especially "How Far I'll Go" but a lot of other songs didn't live up to those. This gem had to grow on me, I'll admit that, but it's just so catchy and those saxophones (?) really want you return to this as often as possible. Her vocals are also a lot of fun (backing vocals!!!) and the whole experience is just addicting. It was in the summertime when a person I really loved started being very cold to me, so this song fit my mood perfectly. Not in a sad way, it's more uplifting and shows the disappointment in such a situation which I related to heavily. But what's not supposed to be, shouldn't be.

39. R.I.P. - Sofia Reyes ft. Rita Ora & Anitta
When this Latin smash was released, I ignored it at first. Another basic Spanish song? No thanks! Well, after several weeks later I gave it another chance and... Wow. That beat is infectious, Rita's parts slay and it's full of hooks!! Did I mention already how HOT it is!! The ladies are on fire and the mix of Pop and Latin styles make for a perfect banger! It's the only song not to be fully in English on this list. Sometimes we all need to just ignore all the bullshit and bop our hearts out!

38. Torn - Ava Max
A major jam! After "Sweet But Psycho", Ava couldn't please the GP with another smash, yet true Pop fans would stumble upon this Golden hit! Great production is, what makes this truly shine. Her vocals add to the track's awesomeness too though! The bridge and especially the final chorus are so grand that it makes you want more! (Shoutout to "Salt" for being equally as great) She describes a toxic relationship in which she is getting hurt a lot but can't let go of that person for their advantages. However, it's important to accept what's best for oneself and just leave.
Favorite line: I can't get enough, can't take any more. Release date: August 19 Peak on my chart: #5

37. Panini - Lil Nas X
The follow-up to global smash hit "Old Town Road" was met with mixed reception, some thought it was repetitive and uneventful. I love it. The beat is fun and its full of catchy hooks! One thing Lil Nas did right is that his followup sounds nothing like his breakthrough (See Ava Max' "So Am I"). This really needed to grow on me (aided by its music video) To me, this song sounds like he has still has confident hopes of a relationship that just doesn't work. I felt the same this year which made me realize how stupid these hopes are if they can't be fulfilled.
Favorite line: Say to me what you want from me. Release date: June 20 Peak on my chart: #8

36. Graveyard - Halsey
Halsey was very hit or miss for me this year. I surely loved her smash success "Without Me" and "Finally/beautiful stranger" but her features on "11 Minutes", "Eastside" or "Boy With Luv" did nothing for me. However this gem was a big grower for me. At first, I thought this song missed that euphoric touch that "Without Me" had and felt too little. However, I noticed its strengths from the production choices and Halsey's beautiful vocals to its lyrical matter and structure. It's actually very catchy. We meet people and really want them to be a part of our lives without noticing how much that destroys us. This taught me to just let go before ending up on the graveyard.
Favorite line: They say I may be making a mistake, I woulda followed all the way, no matter how far. Release date: September 13 Peak on my chart: #2

35. Dancing With A Stranger - Sam Smith & Normani
Sam Smith can never go wrong. Sure, he's has some duds in his career but when this song was announced I knew I'd love it. The production is very simple, yet haunting and addicting. His vocals (especially on the chorus) are flawless. Normani slays too, no worries. They totally fit together vocally. Lyrically, this is very simple too. When this came out it felt like 2019's first big hit (which it did become). When losing somebody, we tend to find distraction in somebody else. We quickly learn though that that somebody ain't it. And that's exactly what I felt this year. I thought I knew what I needed to do but this taught me that isn't the right thing. Moving on is.

34. Stars - VIZE ft. Laniia
Weird choice, huh? A Euro-dance bop a la "In My Mind" that got me on every dance floor in the world this year. I loved this from day one, found its vibe addicting and so much fun. I've been jamming to this all summer, the highlight being seeing VIZE live at a festival which made me fall back in love with this. I especially love the part where the word "reality" is repeated, uuuh what a bop. I'm glad it became a hit in my country. Let's just forget about everything else for a night and just enjoy life without going back to reality.
Favorite line: We could be the stars here tonight, don't go back to reality Release date: May 3 Peak on my chart: #2 (for two weeks)

33. All I Do Is Cry - Kim Petras
Kim Petras is a name that I had rarely any business with other than liking (but not loving) "Heart To Break" and "All The Time". It wasn't until early this year when she started releasing songs each week until her album "Clarity" was released which became one of my favorites of the year. (special shout out to "Personal Hell" and especially "Icy"!). The production on this is so flawless, the vocal effects and the emotion in her voice hit me so hard. Lyrically, this is very straight forward. She can't believe she's lost the one she loved and all she does is cry. And I totally related to her on that, the feeling of being so down with no real brightness being in sight. However, it makes no sense to continue being sad about somebody.
Favorite line: Before I close my eyes I think of all of the lies, can't go to sleep at night I've tried a million times Release date: May 23 Peak on my chart: #10

32. bad guy - Billie Eilish
Won't lose too many words in this one, we all loved this one. The way she uses her voice in the verses compared to the chorus is magnificent. It's a lot of fun and unexpected, a major hit through and through. We're all bad, duh.
Favorite line: My mommy likes to sing along with me but she won't sing this song, if she reads all the lyrics she'll pity the men I know Release date: March 29 Peak on my chart: #1

31. Switch - 6LACK
Hey, a song I discovered through Pulse! Yes, in the Wintertime Madness in early 2019 somebody sent this masterpiece. The production is so unique and gorgeous. The Way he delivers the lyrics is beautiful too. His voice fits this type of song perfectly. I also really like the song's structure. The mood is so dark and sad. Sometimes I felt like people should need to feel how I feel to actually get me. But that's not true. Only I will ever be truly able to feel the way I feel and being sad sometimes isn't a problem.
Favorite line: Ain't nobody gotta go through what I'm going through Release date: September 14 (2018) Peak on my chart: #2

30. Only When It Rains - Frank Walker ft. Astrid S
Surprise, surprise, there's an Astrid S song on this list. But it's her least successful single this year, not even reaching the Top 30 in her home country Norway. It's very different as she's only featured. The production is amazing, it has a lot of little twists and details that really make this stand out to me. Honestly, to me this song is so uplifting. Its message may appear a bit basic but damn is it powerful. Sometimes we really have to fall and hurt to grow. Certain situations make us bigger and greater. This taught me to always look brightly into the future without focusing too much on the negative.
Favorite line: The flower they won't grow with only the good and sunny days. Cause it's only when it rains that we grow. Release date: March 29 Peak on my chart: #5

29. all the good girls go to hell - Billie Eilish
My relationship with Billie had its ups and downs. I loved Ocean Eyes when it came out but rarely checked any of her other stuff out, I even disliked some songs I love now. It wasn't until something about "when the party's over" clicked with me and it became one of my Top 5 songs of 2018. I started listening to her EP and loved everything onwards, however the whole album never clicked with me. The same goes for this song, disliked it at first but got obsessed later in the year. Its mood is so dark and I love the bass line throughout the track. Her vocals are so crazy and she sounds like singing with a demon's voice. It's also catchy af and became probably my favorite Billie song? It doesn't matter how we behave sometimes. There will always be bad stuff happening to us. It's important to learn how to handle these things.
Favorite line: Hills burn in California, my turn to ignore ya Release date: March 29 Peak on my chart: #2
