Hey guys! Now that I have a bunch of time to kill (thanks coronavirus!), I thought it would be a cool idea to start a thread for song reviews and recommendations! Mostly, I think I'll talk about songs I really like, though I might review some trash every once in a while to spice things up As for the songs I recommend, I'll try to review overlooked / not super well-known songs, I think reviewing only hits would be boring and what would the point of recommending things most people already know be? Let me know if you want to be tagged, I'll post a review later today! Tags: BB🌕

Review #1: Ciara - "Overdose"
(let's pray I don't get in trouble for posting the single art lol)
Year: 2013 Genre: Electropop Chart peaks: #33 US Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop
Off her 2013 self-titled album, Overdose was an immediate fan-favorite upon the album’s release - and for good reason. Unlike the rest of the album, which was more R&B, Overdose is a slick electropop track with influences from 80’s dance music & nu-disco. Lyrically, the song is about Ciara’s dependence on the love of another even if it’s detrimental to her well-being, using the classic “love=drug” metaphor. I’m not gonna lie, this is one of the catchiest songs I’ve ever heard. Overdose was ultimately released as the final single off the album (after fans practically begged her for a single release) and gained some media attention for the NSFW cover art - however, her team made a bizarre decision and only promoted the song to urban radio instead of pop radio (where it made more stylistic sense). Ultimately, they cancelled the music video and the digital release. This song could’ve smashed, but her team f**ked it over
I only discovered this late last year, but it’s become one of my most played songs of all time already. This song is full of hooks boosted by the pulsing 80’s-inspired production. It never gets old for me, and I highly recommend it~

Review #2: Mariah Carey - "A No No" Year: 2018 Genre: R&B Chart peaks: #17 US R&B Digital Song Sales
The third single off Mariah’s criminally underrated 2018 album Caution, A No No is a song about Mariah rejecting an ex’s advances knowing that he’s trash. The song features a prominent sample of Lil’ Kim & Biggie’s 1997 banger Crush On You, sampling both the beat and the “He’s a slut, he’s a ho, he’s a freak” line. One of the more uptempo tracks off Caution, Mariah leans into her sassy side here with a number of clever lines about rejecting her ex. For the single release of the track, Mariah brought in two guest rappers - Stefflon Don & Shawni - the remixes are fine, but in my opinion, these guest verses are unnecessary, I’d stick to the original version. The music video was released in December of 2018 and features Mariah and her family having a party in a subway train.
This song is full of attitude a lot of fun imo, helped by a sample of a late 90’s classic. Definitely recommend it!
