Incubus-Blink-Lostprophets are going to be 1-2-3. That's as high as they're all going to get, I'd say.
311 to the top 5. I don't believe this. I never would have guessed this song would be still moving up right now. It probably won't go to number 1 though, unless it somehow outlasts Hoobastank, which moves 12-6.
Trapt is beginning to stall around the #15 range, just like their first two singles did. We'll find out soon if it's really finished, or if it's just fools gold that's marking the time for Warner Bros. to put millions of dollars behind it, making it into an immortal top-20 hit.
Linkin Park jumps 23-17, but ultimately I don't think it's going to make the top 5.
I don't like Jet's new song.
It doesn't seem right for "Behind Blue Eyes" to still be on this chart (and barely even dropping). Who still hears this on the radio.
I tuned in right during the bridge of the Vines' "Ride", and immediately knew it was them. Sounds like something I'm going to like...it just needs to get out from under the radar around here.
Wasn't "California" like a pop-rock song? Since when did Phantom Planet try to start being like The Strokes? I don't like the use of the word "brat" in the title, it sounds so cheezy when he's saying "take that and that and that", and from what I understand, it's from a TV show that I wish never existed. Having said that, I'm really getting into the song.
"Reptilia" seems to be on its last legs. I'm really surprised that the buzz generated around The Strokes hasn't even allowed them to muster out at least a top 10 off of Room On Fire.
I heard The Living End's song one time and the chorus reminded me of an Outback Steakhouse commercial.
Who knows if I'll ever get to hear "What's Your Number". My interest level is about a 6.
"Maps" sounds so indie and at first I thought it was boring. It's alright now, but it doesn't seem like a song that this format would embrace like that. Same with "Mad World", without the indie part.
If not for The Offspring, Courtney Love's drop of -524 would actually be noteworthy.
Looks like "Change The World" is turning out to be a death blow to P.O.D.'s career.
I think "Taylor" by Jack Johnson is going to go recurrent with a peak of #47. Is it ever not in that range.
What's with The Postal Service losing its bullet and falling out already? I've never heard it, but I want to because I love that band name.
It appears that the floor has fallen out from under Brand New. Oh well...next album maybe.
If "She Wants To Move" doesn't at least make the top 50 I Will Be Mad!

I'm also really impressed with 311's performance. I've liked "Love Song" for a long time and glad to see it still rising.
I really hope "I Miss You" can reach the top. That track and "The Reason" are probably my favorite songs at the moment.
As usual, Linkin Park seem to be dropping relatively quickly with their former #1 song...I don't really like "Lying From You"; I predict Top 5, though it won't do anywhere as well as their previous three releases from Meteora.

Whoa! Did Switchfoot make the top 50 by the final update last night? "DYTM" already has a bigger bullet than I ever thought it would.

It probably won't go to number 1 though, unless it somehow outlasts Hoobastank, which moves 12-6. And I'm sure, somewhere out there, there lives an alternative radio programmer who doesn't know this song is a cover. Maybe more than one. To hell with Trapt. And see your above quote about funding to prove why Linkin Park's new one will indeed be a top 5 hit. I do. What TV show is this? I know California is the theme song to The OC, but wasn't aware that Big Brat was being used for something already. LOL. Gary Jules gives the word "indie" new meaning. It's indie through and through. Hopefully. What's with it regaining its bullet and moving into the top 50 a year after the fact in the first place? It's a great song, and it was in my top 10 for 2003, but this is 2004. At least station programmers have an excuse with Mad World, since that one never got issued to radio when it first came out. This is a different story. Is Being Mad different from being mad? The Postal Service hasn't made the top 50 yet. It rose 60-51* on the 3/5/04 chart but apparently fell 51-53 for 3/12.

And I'm sure, somewhere out there, there lives an alternative radio programmer who doesn't know [Love Song] is a cover. Maybe more than one. Yeah, I wouldn't be even slightly surprised. See, I thought "Big Brat" was from the OC. It was dumbass MSN.com recently putting up a link to "Hear Phantom Planet's new song from The OC" and I only assumed it was Big Brat and that the TV show was why the song was doing so much better than "California" did. I guess it's just performing better because it sounds like a Strokes song. Now we need an explanation as to why it's doing better than "Reptilia". What parts do both Jules and Andrews have on that song, anyway? Yes. The two expressions are pronounced differently. The first one adds exaggeration without screaming (as in using ALL CAPS). Jules does the vocals and Andrews plays the piano. What he said. I think Andrews might have been responsible for the arrangement as well, but don't quote me on that.

We'll find out soon if it's really finished, or if it's just fools gold that's marking the time for Warner Bros. to put millions of dollars behind it, making it into an immortal top-20 hit. It's probably going to be Chevelle syndrome, though I don't know if that means it'll crawl to the top 3 or peter out in the low top 10 like "Closure". I don't like Jet's new song. Me neither. I'm amazed that KNDD in its new throwback form can consider such an AC/DC-ish song alternative. If they're gonna play this, they might as well play all the other stuff they threw out before their switch. I tuned in right during the bridge of the Vines' "Ride", and immediately knew it was them. Sounds like something I'm going to like...it just needs to get out from under the radar around here. It's OK. I think ultimately I'll like the stuff from their first album more than this song. I'm really surprised that the buzz generated around The Strokes hasn't even allowed them to muster out at least a top 10 off of Room On Fire. Yeah, I'm not really high on the Phantom Planet song, but it is better than "California". And I agree that "Reptilia" should be doing much better. It's possibly their best single to date. What's with The Postal Service losing its bullet and falling out already? I've never heard it, but I want to because I love that band name. I'm still mad that this group is getting the attention over "The New Year" by Death Cab For Cutie. Besides, that name is much more cooler than "The Postal Service". By the way, I don't know if KNDD broadcasts online, but if they do, tune in and rest assured they'll play it. They've been doing it since March 2003. If "She Wants To Move" doesn't at least make the top 50 I Will Be Mad! Yeah, it's a pretty good song. :)

Can anyone tell me whether Switchfoot made the top 50 last week? No one seems to know, either that or my question got lost in the shuffle.

I wouldn't bet my life on it, but I think "Dare You To Move" was at #54 for last night's 10pm PST update.

24 40 COURTNEY LOVE Mono 377 1029 -652
What the hell? Why is this song losing over 60% of its airplay? I've definitely never seen a song lose such a high percentage of its airplay while still that high up.

I don't know much about Jules, or if this was discussed in another topic, but what string of events lead to this being a single? That song's got to be at least three years old, because the first time I heard it was in Donnie Darko, which came out my freshman year at MU. I heard it on the radio over the weekend, took awhile to place it, and suddenly was like, "Why the hell is this on the radio?"
It's a really creepy song to be surprised by while driving home at 3 a.m. I hope it does well on the charts, but I'm shocked something this mellow has made it as far as it has on alternative these days.

I don't know much about Jules, or if this was discussed in another topic, but what string of events lead to this being a single? This has been discussed in other folders, but here's the basic summary. Gary Jules got a record deal in the UK recently, so he (or they?) decided to release 'Mad World' as the first single. This was from the same album that he had released independently a couple years back. Anyway, the single was scheduled for a Christmas release, which is THE week for singles hype across the pond (bookies even take bets on what will hit #1), and the media started hyping it for whatever reason. Probably they were sick of seeing Pop Idol or Garth Whatshisface or something equally shit take home the Christmas #1 year after year. So with the help of the papers, the public became aware that this was the official darkhorse single, and soon it wasn't the darkhorse anymore. 'Mad World' topped the UK singles charts for three straight weeks. Apparently someone over here noticed all of this and figured the single should get a push on US radio as well. Plus, Donnie Darko is going back to theaters in a director's cut edition sometime in the near future. So it all adds up. And it's about time a truly alternative song got some play on alternative radio, isn't it?

Linkin Park jumps 23-17, but ultimately I don't think it's going to make the top 5. Personally, I think it'll crack the Top 5 at least but unfortunately it may not reach #1, ending the streak (momentarily if "Breaking The Habit" is fully accepted).Looks like "Change The World" is turning out to be a death blow to P.O.D.'s career. I wouldn't count them out just yet, many people thought they over at radio, after "Boom" & "Satellite" failed to become massive hits like "Alive" & "YOTN". I believe they can bounce back with their next album. If "She Wants To Move" doesn't at least make the top 50 I Will Be Mad! You won't be the only one but the song seems too rhythmic for alternative. How high did "Hey Ya" and "It's My Life" get?

I believe they can bounce back with their next album. They bounced back before? They really didn't have any "big" hits after "Boom" and "Satellite". "Sleeping Awake" and "Will You" peaked at #14 and #12 respectively, but neither one lasted very long. "It's My Life" peaked at #33 and "Hey Ya!" peaked at #16.

What he said. I think Andrews might have been responsible for the arrangement as well, but don't quote me on that. I'm almost certain you're right about that. Andrews also did the entire score for Donnie Darko.
