Per Billboard, "Say Say Say" is Michael Jackson's biggest hit, but it doesn't even come close to his most well known, which I think is either "Billie Jean" or "Thriller" (with possible shout-outs to "Black Or White" and "Beat It").

Rock With You says hi. That's nice. I'd argue it's not even the most well known song from its parent album, that title belongs to "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough." Regardless, both trail "Smooth Criminal" as well as the ones I already mentioned.

Another example. Both Linger and Dreams are well-remembered but, and the Cranberries even had other hits with When You're Gone and Ode to My Family. But their biggest and one of the most famous grunge songs of the 90s never charted

I think most people would recognize "Holiday Road" before they recognized Lindsey Buckingham's solo songs that were more successful.

Billy Idol's biggest hit 'Mony Mony' is not his most streamed song. Rebel Yell, White Wedding, Dancing With Myself, even Eyes Without a Face have more streams

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but Reba McEntire's "Fancy" is far and away her biggest hit and signature song, despite only peaking at #8 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs (what is, in essence, now Country Airplay) chart in 1991.

What about Piano Man by Billy Joel? That was not in the year-end.
And That's All by Genesis?
And any Peter Gabriel hit besides Sledgehammer?
And Conga by Gloria Estefan?
And Dancing With Myself by Billy Idol? (bubbling under)

Electric Light Orchestra's best-known song is probably Mr. Blue Sky, which only peaked at #35 on the Hot 100 in 1978.

Michael Jackson - "Say Say Say" is really the craziest one, because you can literally honestly name like 20 other hits that are more well known by him.
Thriller, Beat It, PYT, Don't Stop, Rock With You, Bad, Smooth Criminal, Black or White, Remember the Time, ABC, Want You Back, Human Nature, Man in the Mirror, Dirty Diana, Remember the Time, and Wanna Be Startin' Something all come to mind as undebatably more remembered.
Then there's like 10 others you could argue with a good argument even.

Also ABC would count as a song for the Jackson 5

"Say Say Say" is his biggest Billboard hit crossing his entire career.

Madonna's biggest Billboard hit was Take a Bow, #1 for 7 weeks but it is not her most well known hit.

I went by how many weeks it was at #1. We all have different opinions on how to determine an artist's biggest hit.

You guys know Like A Virgin was weighted to have more weeks at #1 because of the multipliers. They give it 11 weeks at the top.

Based on the Hot 100, "Adia" is Sarah McLachlan's biggest hit peaking at #3, but of course songs like "Angel" and "I Will Remember You" are more well known today.

Evelyn "Champagne" King. Her biggest hit was "Shame," but "Love Come Down" is definitely her signature song now.

not sure if this is listed but At Last by Etta James is her most known song but not her highest charting song .it peaked at #47 but she actually had nine songs that peaked higher with Tell Mama her highest at #23.
