Incredible song. I can’t get over her vocal. This is going to be insane live. I really hope we get a proper US tour this time around so I don’t fly out of state (even tho I will if needed).

Love the cover. Absolutely adore both tracks so far.
WYP obviously had great vocals, but it was a sexier moment, so the vocals were a bit more subdued. Sounds like she's letting loose a bit more on this album. I didn't even realize she had a head voice like that.

She shared a playlist of songs that inspired her for the album:
She's going to deliver a killer disco album with BOPS!

Surprised to find out she's only 38. I thought she was pushing 50 So, that’s negative, right? Since you thought she was older than she is, she looks old in your eyes that means she aged quickly and less gracefully.

I don’t know if it’s “negative”, it’s just an observation I had; I always thought she was an almost 50 year old woman who looked good and did disco. Some people just got an old looking face

So let me get this straight, in the decade plus that Jessie Ware has been an artist, not ONCE have you had a thing to say about her. Not her music, songwriting, vocals, performances, etc. But for some random reason, you feel the need to wander into her thread just to say she looks old....
Why are you like this?

I haven’t been to a concert since before the pandemic. This just may be the one that breaks my dry spell.

I do not drive more than two hours for concerts and sure as hell not on weekdays. But Queen Jessie has me driving four hours on a Monday, how dare she!
I couldn't resist doing an early listen of the album, I'm loving the more organic and warm soul/funk/disco vibes she brought with this. It feels like a very natural branch off from WYP. So campy, plush and fun. I'll dive in way more once my album gets delivered.

I'm currently listening to this album on my work break. Coincidentally, this album is already in rotation on my work's radio playlist.
That was quick.

I remember the first time I listened to WYP? I knew nobody was gonna top that album in 2020. And then the deluxe came out and was pretty much the best album of 2021, lol. It's never left rotation for me, no matter how much music I listen to, it always sneaks it's way back in. Easily the best album of the 2020's and has already gone down as one of my favorite albums of all time. I say that because I got the same exact feeling on my first spin of this. Sorry to every other artist, the deal is sealed, album of the year. Nobody is serving elevated music like this. And when I say that, I'm literally referring to the instrumentals themselves. The horns, the strings, the drums, the keys, the guitars, the bass, the ornate background vocal arrangements. This is music with a capital "M." PLUSH. This woman just gets it. There is no producer currently doing what James Ford has done on these last two albums, period. And Stuart Price does a good job of matching his style for the most part. WYP? was more expansive in it's references, but I love the funk/soul/disco sounds she hones in on and expands here. "Remember Where You Are" closing out the last album works as such a wonderful segue into this one.
1) "That! Feels Good!" - A note to other artists, THIS is how you do a tribute to funk. The bassline is full, the horns, the guitar. It's fun, sexy, humorous, a little bit twisted. Everything the tinny "Music In A Sushi Restaurant," "Filthy" and "Sauce" failed to be. I have a hard time getting to the rest of the album because this stays on repeat. 2) "Free Yourself" - I said it on release, the most massive pop song since "Cut To The Feeling." A total stomper and an anthem. If that build-up during the bridge into the last chorus with the horns and the drums doesn't send you into orbit, please check your pulse. 3) "Pearls" - A 10. Joyously campy and fun, Stuart did an incredible job of meshing with her sound. One of her best vocals on record and the background vocals are so playful. 4) "Hello Love" - A lovely 70's soul moment that I wasn't expecting. Another excellent vocal from her and a total sunny vibe. 5) "Begin Again" - A production masterclass. That underlying samba rhythm, the horns, the strings. Opulence. And this is what happens when background singers become lead singers, because Jessie knows how to do an ornate vocal arrangement. Love the build-up on this one. 6) "Beautiful People" - I was totally thrown off by the verses, still am a little, lol. But then the pre-chorus hit and I was like "oh okay." Then the chorus hit and I'm like "yeah, that makes sense." Then the post-chorus comes and the song explodes, that and the bridge are a moment. Just a really fun and quirky track. And again... horns. 7) "Freak Me Now" - A sweaty dancefloor torcher. I do wish her vocals were mixed more forward, but this is fire. 8) "Shake The Bottle" - Oooooh ah! I was immediately reminded of "Let It Whip" by Dazz Band. I love how cheeky and fun this is. And again... horns. Sorry, I'm such a sucker for a horn section. 9) "Lightning" - Probably the biggest outlier on the album, it's more modern than the other tracks. I still love it, especially that tweaked choir-esque background vocal, but the way it's mixed into the album doesn't make any sense. 10) "Two Lips" - The BRIDGE. Once the instrumental starts riding out with those horns and strings... yeah, I needed like five more minutes of that. Extended version needed ASAP.
Another tour de force from Jessie, just a delicious f**king album. The way she takes all of these different eras of music that I worship and adore and distills them into her own mix, it's like she has a pipeline directly into my head. I cannot wait to see this live.

NOT TWO LIPS OMG. RIP Dua Lipa. Looking fwd to hearing this when it arrives today from Amazon. Used points to purchase it, so it's a win regardless. Never heard the deluxe of PYP because I pretty much boycott those situations these days.

And I totally get the burnout with these cheapie deluxes in the streaming era, but she actually did it right. All of the new tracks were fire and actually enhanced the album.

Oh this is awesome, I love Jessie and LOVED WYP so I assumed it could only be a step down - wrong. Won't repeat all the points you've made Ling-Ling about the production which is just excellent.

I wonder if this record got inspired by the sound of Kiss Of Life, the album carries that more vibrant, confident, and upbeat energy reminiscent of a Kylie Minogue meets Prince project. Vibrant pop spundscapes but with soul, funk, and the same strengths of WYP mixed in. It will take time for me to say if I can put it on the same tier as the perfection that is WYP, but its another fantastic record that carries its own identity but still plays to all her strengths.
Also yes she really gets the best production work, just magical stuff. Anyways favorites right now are Freak Me Now, Begin Again, and Shake the Bottle.

Yup, my favourite album of the year thus far. Kicking Miley out of the top spot, but I still love that album nonetheless.
Definite highlights (aside from the pre-released songs) — Beautiful People, Freak Me Now, Shake The Bottle, Lightening, and These Lips. Seriously, the whole album is stellar.
Edit: Id say this is better than WYP because there’s not one skip on here, while I tend to skip a couple on WYP, and the highs are higher on this project. Feels elevated. But the newness could wear off and I change my mind.
