Inspired from the Hot 100 threads, what music genres do y'all see becoming popular this decade?
Reggaeton: Reggaeton is very popular with artists like Bad Bunny, J. Balvin, Karol G, Maluma, Becky G, etc all making their marks and I see reggaeton continuing to be popular for the time being.
Synth-pop: I may as well say retro tracks in general but, it seems every year's biggest hit of the decade so far has been a 80s sounding synth song, Blinding Lights for 2020, Stay for 2021 and As It Was for 2022. I think the 80s sounding hits are going to be here to stay for sometime.
Dance/House: A really popular genre in Europe, I can see it making a come back to North America, I think Drake's Honestly, Nevermind and Beyonce's Renaissance may be the start of a come back for the genre stateside.
Drill: This genre is slowly but surely starting to pick up steam, like house, this is already popular in Europe thanks to artists like Russ Millions, ArrDee and Dave and songs like Body and Whoopty seeing international success. It seems every country has their own set of underground drill rappers so there's definitely a chance this could be see more crossover potential.
Bedroom pop: If there were any genre that sums up Gen-Z, it's probably this one. It's a diverse genre that has a lot of mainstream potential and also helps that it connects to the younger generation.
Pop-punk: All of the genres here, I expect this one to last the shortest here. This 2000s genre saw a revival thanks to MGK, Willow, and of course, Travis Barker. This may not have a lot of staying but it was fun to see it make a come back.
What do you guys think?
