How're you finding this year in music so far?
If I'm being honest I'm completely overwhelmed. There's been so much great music being released this year. A number of albums I've liked/listened to:
Avril Lavigne - Love Sux Bedadoobee - Beatopia Beyonce - Renaissance Bjork - Fossora Carly Rae Jepsen - The Lonliest Time Charlie Puth - Charlie Charli XCX - Crash Ella Mai - Heart On My Sleeve FKA Twigs - Caprisongs FLO - The Lead Harry Styles - Harry's House Lizzo - Special Megan Thee Stallion - Traumazine Rina Sawayama - Hold The Girl Taylor Swift - Midnights The Weeknd - Dawn FM Tove Lo - Dirty Femme
As well as liking a lot of singles that have been released this year as well. This may be one of the best years in music for me.

Mainstream - worst year in my 10+ years of chart watching history. I've never witnessed a freeze like the one that took place the first chunk of the year. Things improved greatly since the summer but just not enough for me to call this a good year for pop music
Underground - pretty good. Overall I love the direction music's heading - more alternative/indie sounding with 70's influence, heavy bass, distortion galore. It's just taking the general public forever to give anything other than generic trap rap a chance & it's annoying me to no end. I don't think there's been any other year that I watched so many songs that SHOULD'VE been hits get slept on
So overall, a disappointing year for me, but I think there's a solid chance a huge revival is just around the corner

This has been an interesting year as literally so many artists I like have been releasing new music after a pretty large gap- popular artists like Rihanna, Kendrick, Beyoncé, etc. have made a return, while on the more “underground” side of things we’ve gotten new music from Alvvays, Weyes Blood, FKA twigs, Kelela, Florence + The Machine and more.
At the same time there have been quite a bit of new artist discoveries/artists I’ve clicked with more this year than in other years - Sudan Archives, FLO, Amber Mark, Bad Bunny, Foxes, etc.
Chartwise, 2022 has been kind of a mixed bag for me. The top end of the projected year end list is filled with songs/artists I don’t care for (Ed Sheeran, Morgan Wallen, Super Gremlin, I Like You (A Happier Song), etc.) but throughout the year end list there are some great songs and some artists that I’m so happy to see gain a lot of success this year: Running Up That Hill, Bad Bunny, Steve Lacy, I Hate U, and more.
Some of the acclaimed stuff (mainly looking at the RYM top songs list) feels a bit underwhelming to me too, but there are some good songs spread out in the list.
I’d say overall it’s a pretty good year for music, though I think 2021 and 2020 may have been a bit stronger.

This has been a great uear for new artists really clicking with me and for me discovering new artists. Even though I had known songs from Tate McRae before, this was the year she really clicked for me, and now I'm a really big fan. And also this year I discovered one of my favorite artists ever, that being Jamie Miller. Also while I had discovered him late last year, Benson Boone became one of my absolute favorite artists ever, with his album Walk Me Home... being my favorite album of the year by far.
Chart wise, this has been great. Songs that I had loved for awhile became hits this year. One of those being All Too Well, and another being Ghost. Ghost is a song that I loved when the album first came out, so when I found out it was being pushed as a single, I screamed in excitement. Also Sand In My Boots finally got real traction and became a hit. And Heat Waves being the biggest hit of the year is great!!! Also I loved seeing so many 2021 repeats, cause 2021 is my favorite year ever for the hot 100.
This year has also been really historic. Running Up That Hill's comeback was so crazy and iconic, We Don't Talk About Bruno being at #1 for 5 weeks was also something totally unexpected, but the most iconic thing of the year was just last week, with Taylor taking the entire top 10.

This 100%. Tate really clicked for me with “Uh Oh” and especially “She’s All I Wanna Be.” Glad to know someone else on here is as happy about the success of “Heat Waves” as I am!
