Audacy began revamping B96 in Chicago from Top 40 to a Rhythmic, older-skewing Top 40/Rhythmic Hot AC with half of the titles being gold titles/throwbacks from the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s, and the other half being present-day hits of today. There were rumors that Audacy might flip either B96 (which has very poor ratings in the past few years) or WBMX 104.3 Jams (which has a classic Rhythmic/hip hop format) into simulcasting WSCR 670 the Score but that hasn't happened. B96 was historically more successful as a Rhythmic Pop station than a Mainstream Pop station as they were on the Rhythmic panel between 1990 and 2012 though they still won't acknowledge any of the dance/club hits during their 1990s Killer Bee/Party Radio heyday though they will play the big hip hop and R&B hits from that era, many of which are currently played on 104.3 Jams. Playlist comparison of B96 and 104.3 Jams. Currently, Mediabase has B96 in it's Top 40 Mainstream panel. Will that change with the recent news? What do you think? That would make 103.5 Kiss Fm the only top 40 station in Chicago and it plays mostly rhythmic songs.
