Miguel Sure Thing 100 percent deserved to be big in 2023 because honestly it sounds more 2020s style and fits well in todays music. Feel like in 2011 it was way too early for it so that’s why it wasn’t as big back then I feel like.

"Sure Thing" is pretty by the numbers pop/R&B that was big in the late 00's and early 10's, most of R&B/Rhythmic radio sounded like "Sure Thing" during 2008-2011. After The Weeknd and Frank Ocean broke through, radio changed over to a darker trap/R&B sound and it's pretty much remained that way since then. So I think it's pretty of it's time, however if you look at it in a pop sense, it's very different. Pop radio was dominated by an electropop sound at that time and R&B tracks like "Sure Thing" couldn't really break through, which is why longtime R&B artists like Usher were popping out club tracks during the early 10's.
Nowadays with the streaming era and the diversified pop landscape, "Sure Thing" can actually become a hit on pop radio when pop radio wouldn't even touch it 12 years ago. It's very interesting.

It really wasn’t imo. A lot of the songs that made the 2011 Year End share the same production and vibes of “Sure Thing”, now you have to remember that “Sure Thing” was originally leaked online back in 2007 so I guess it was probably ahead of its time when it was originally produced.

I would say that “Sure Thing” was ahead of it’s time. It was a hit on Urban radio during 2011. It’s so popular now that KIIS FM has it in their rotation.
