Popular moves up to #13 at today’s final published update. Who would’ve thunk?

are the Drake tracks falling enough on streaming to basically trade places with all the Bad Bunny tracks? Or no and this week is the last week on the Hot 100?
incredible, legendary run, nonetheless. It's been a real pleasure.

^It will be close. Bad Bunny's tracks son't seem to be doing as well as Drake's, though they still could all chart. A turnaround at pop radio, with all positive trends; the AT40 effect may have contributed a good bit, though we'll take it. Will "Popular" return to the U.S. Spotify top 200 with tomorrow's update? Stay tuned... Spotify- Oct. 15Global: No. 75 (-5), 1,564,202 (-170,912); 301,864,100 cume USA: Below top 200 for third consecutive day

20th week on the Hot 100 is going to be hard, could scrape by in the lower 90's, but we'll see.

There doesn’t appear to be an immediate threat below this to affect it’s ranking this week unless spins drop fast. Curious to see if any song goes recurrent to move it up to #12 by final Sunday update. Regardless, surprisingly great run on pop.

It's been a real pleasure. it still can re-enter after Bad Bunny's week, and that will be its final week on the Hot 100.

"Vampire" is only in its 16th week on the Mediabase top 40 chart, thus it wouldn't go recurrent until it reaches 20 weeks. At least that's my understanding.

Popular is down 21 places to #87 on the new Hot 100:

For what it's worth, if it's still gaining in points Billboard might let it stay around past 20 weeks even if it had downward movement chart-wise. Considering it's still gaining in Pop there might be a chance it gets to 21 weeks. If it did, it's probably not surviving 1989 TV's album bomb week though

It would need to be gaining on overall radio. Pop gains mean nothing if Rhythmic losses negate everything. Also:
POP: 14 13 THE WEEKND Popular f/Playboi C. & Madonna 7008 6933 75 15.767
+19 Spins -51 Bullet -0.083 Audience
HOT AC: 44 43 THE WEEKND Popular f/Playboi C. & Madonna 150 145 5 0.247

RHYTHMIC: 27 30 THE WEEKND Popular f/Playboi C. & Madonna 1083 1339 -256 2.605

19, 20 weeks- in the words of fellow diva Damita Jo, it doesn't really matter. The single's tenure exceeded expectations, as did its showing at radio. Looks how it outlasted "Double Fantasy" on the Hot 100 and radio, despite that single peaking higher on the Hot 100. Kudos.
Spotify- Oct. 16 Global: No. 72 (+3), 1,693,274 (+129,072); 303,557,374 cume USA: Below top 200 for fourth consecutive day

Madonna's 20+week songs:
80s Borderline, Holiday, Crazy For You 90s Take A Bow, I'll Remember, Vogue, Secret, Rain, This Used To Be My Playground, You'll See, You Must Love Me, Frozen, Ray Of Light 00s Music, Don't Tell Me, Hung Up, 4 Minutes 20s Popular?
unless I forgot someone, Madonna will be the 5th artist (and 2nd female) to score at least 4 20+week songs from four different decades:
Michael Jackson 5 (70s-10s) Britney Spears 4 (90s-20s) Elton John 4 (70s-90s, 20s) Aerosmith 4 (70s-00s)
Usher has a chance to be on this list with "Good Good" (currently at 9 weeks).

LOL chartf. I gather so. But when some of her biggest hits didn't even reach 20 weeks- even considering the different chart climates/methodologies- one week ain't no big deal. ;)

So it's not fair to compare some of Madonna's biggest hits longevity to the longevity of Popular.

^It's actually The Weeknd, Playboy Carti & Madonna. Though I agree, for multiple reasons; also, per my post u on the page, it's performed beyond expectations, based on how it started at radio. And streaming was very consistent for somer time.
Rebounded at pop with today's numbers, an audience increase topping 100,000, though the rhythmic loss a bit bigger.
Spotify- Oct. 17 Global: No. 60 (+12), 1,780,506 (+87,232); 305,337,880 cume USA: Below top 200 for fifth consecutive day (No. 200 had 312,000+ streams)

It's a well known fact that songs tend to chart longer in 2023 than they did in the 80s or 90s.

up until the mid 90s radio stations would self-report their playlist to Radio & Records. So imagine a PD, every week, manually writing out their top 10 or 20 songs and sending it in. There would have been a bias to remove songs that were on the decline, even it was still in the station's top 5 if you counted actual spins. This is why songs fell fast up to the mid-90s - then all of a sudden when R&R began reporting on actual spins, we realized songs were staying around a lot longer than stations had been claiming them to be.

So Popular has already peaked higher than these top 20 hits by M: - Oh father (18, 1989) - Bad girl (18, 1993) - The power of goodbye (17, 1998) - Nothing really matters (20, 1999) It’s vying to peak higher than: - Holiday (15, 1983) - American pie (15, 2000) - What it feels like for a girl (15, 2001) - Hung up (16, 2005) Madonna hasn’t had songs peaking in these top 20 positions: 8, 9, 12, 14, 19. Let’s see if Popular managed to peak at one of those :) Updating this post with the current situation in the top 15 (yay!) It’s already peaked higher than: - Holiday (15, 1983) - American pie (15, 2000) - What it feels like for a girl (15, 2001) It’s vying to peak higher than: - Borderline (13, 1984) - Me against the music (11, 2003)

Madonna probably DGAF, either- she has a song with that title, after all. Abel did co-write "Popular" and it was inspired by his TV series. He probably thought M was the most fitting female pop star to collaborate with on the track. It's not like she was just tacked on and is not heard prominently throughout. M benefits from "Popular" just about as much as Abel. Forty years since her debut album, she's well past the point in her career of having big singles success on her own, so any way she gets her voice heard on radio and her name on the charts is all good.

Back to losses at pop with today's update. The rolling bullet is just 10, so it may turn negative for the first time tomorrow. We'll see.
Through the first five days of this week's tracking period, the total audience, per Kworb, stood at 19.84 million, down from 20.77 million for the prior week's comparable period. That's a drop of ~4.5%.
Returns to the U.S. Spotify top 200. The U.S. cume doesn't include the last five days, when it was below the top 200.
Spotify- Oct. 18 Global: No. 53 (+7), 1,780,506 (+49,184); 307,167,570 cume USA: 190 (RE), 317,419; 56,457,489 cume

Just when this song looks done at pop, it turns things around LOL Back to all positives at the format.
P has two days back in the U.S. Spotify top 200 after being MIA for the five days prior. However, as expected, it finishes below the top 200 for the week.
Spotify- Oct. 19 Global: No. 54 (-1), 1,854,493 (+73,987); 309,022,063 cume USA: 185 (+5), 327,203 (+9,784); 56,784,692 cume
Spotify- Oct. 13-19 Global: No. 68 (-7), 12,377,349 (-929,675; -6.98%); 309,022,063 cume USA: Below top 200; No. 200 had 2,164,232 streams. For the prior week, "Popular" had 2,286,070 streams.
