Billy is back!! New song whether it goes to Country Radio, who knows, but he is back to his country roots with this new one!!!
Song is titled "City Don't", written by Scooter Carusoe, Joshua Miller, and Chris LaCorte.

Fantastic one. One of the best song I've listened to in 2023 until then. But seems like his voice has changed.

Something happened to his voice. It’s actually hard for me to understand him. Did I miss hearing any news about him having vocal issues….Something definitely is off.

I mean, he’s like 4 months shy of 50. His voice is going to change some.

I can understand him sounding different live and in concert.....But the fact that this was done in studio and it sounds nowhere near how he did just a few years ago...Something had to happen I would think. It's not like Billy would be recording in some shabby studio....I'm sure he's using the best ones available. George Strait, Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney's new albums sound almost exactly the same vocally as ones they released 25 years ago because of studio magic. Having said that thou.....It's a great song and I hope it's released as a single.

But yeah there's people who don't change that much. The one whose voice I would say has changed less is Brad Paisley, who still sounds like Mud on the Tires in my opinion.

IMO Billy Currington's vocals change a lot throughout the years, for example People Are Crazy versus Do I Make You Wanna.

This feels like a vocal production thing to me. I love this song, but agree his voice sounds weird/hard to understand. He went back to working with Carson Chamberlain this time around, as opposed to Huff or Frasure or whoever did the last round of songs... so that could explain it.

A bit confused by all the discourse on how his voice sounds because I think he sounds 100% spot-on the same as I expected when I pressed play on a Billy Currington track, lmao. I've listened several times now and I don't hear any noticeable change. The only thing I can think is that it feels a bit like his vocal is set back a little bit and the production is more forward in the mix, maybe?
Anyway, this is a solid song. Easily the best thing he's given us since "It Don't Hurt Like It Used To" at the very least. I feel like it doesn't scream comeback smash though, more so pleasant album cut, and he needs a total home run of a song to get him back on country radio if that's the plan. He hasn't had a hit in 6 years now and I think it'll be a tough uphill climb for him to get another.

Am a little curious how much longer his label will be with him. It does seem like the industry has moved on, and he doesn't really have a high streaming following to argue in his favor.

"City Don't" will be impacting Country Radio, do not know when though, but Country Aircheck Summer Print Issue states "Summer 2023", working with Carson Chamberlain AGAIN!!! We need to move this to the main Country Forum. Kurt
