Ya I only tuned in the first hour. Show has become very stale and predictable. I miss Brad and Carrie hosting.

2nd lowest rated CMA broadcast of all-time in terms of total viewers - barely ahead of 2021. Among the key 18-49 demo, the broadcast hit an all-time low. That’s what happens when Queen stays home

I actually thought Peyton and Luke Bryan were great hosting. But maybe they appeal to my sense of humor.

Eh, the drop in ratings is more likely due to the clash with Republican Party presidential debate on the same night, not because a particular artist is missing from the show as her recent award show performances doesn't really drive sales and streaming.
And hosts are overrated. Let's enjoy the performances and awards presented on stage instead.

I think the folks that said Lainey did not deserve to win may be the same folks that are dissatisfied with how EOTY was handled these past decades.
Lainey's win is indeed unprecedented and premature but can't you guys be happy that CMA is willing to change?
I mean, stop holding the old standards against Lainey when it has already been a new day.
As a Carrie fan,I have thoughts like if Lainey could win, then why can't Carrie win back in 2007 which she's even not been nominated when Some Hearts was making a huge impact? But I cannot indulge on that bitterness because it's a different time.
Just be happy that time has changed.Lainey's win shows that CMA is willing to change. And there could be more and more artists especially female artists wouldn't have to try multiple times as hard as the male artists to win the coveted award.
I think Lainey's win is an apology from CMA to all the female artists that deserve to win.

Half of them are supporting the one dude who wasn’t even partaking in the debate anyways. Awards shows are down in viewership in general. Streaming is the way people are consuming media these days; network & cable TV less and less. I also imagine some level of country awards show fatigue is at play here. Weren’t those Peoples Country Choice Awards, like, 6 weeks ago? And then the CMTs a bit earlier? It’s all just too much.

Punishing the people that are deserving and that’s not right or fair to them. They’ve done nothing wrong. 2. It cheapens the award and makes it less prestigious Most of the people that vote for the CMA winners are people in country radio. If they want to show they care about females then instead of just giving them awards maybe they could actually play their music.

So much of the dynamics and purpose behind these awards shows have changed. There was a time when a CMA slot was coveted because it was a huge exposure opportunity. I guess that’s still very much the case, but the pageantry of it all has seemed to diminish. It’s just another night now … it could feel like that bc I’m a Carrie fan, but I remember as a country fan before Carrie the CMAs were like a holiday. You’d be hard pressed not to find your favorites from the past and present in attendance, and the performances were just so much more exciting.
Most of my CMA memories are the Brad/Carrie years - both of whom made it a priority to cultivate that culture and preserve it through SO MANY tributes and homages (even their original songs were written over country classics). Now, it seems the purposes of these shows is to generate viral social media moments, rather than deliver the show/reunion of the year. Maybe I’m off with that, but after 2016 (maybe 2019 bc Carrie/Dolly/Reba/Ladies night) it just seems the culture of the show has become robotic and boring.

Yeah, but this has happened long before Tuesday night and will continue happening. It was already cheapened when Carrie didn't win it in 2019. It was cheapened when Shania didn't win it multiple times. Much like radio means so much less these days than it did years ago, so do these awards.

I even think it cheapened it when Reba didn't win it in the mid 90s when she was at her peak! She won it in 1986 when she was just really starting to gain real traction just like Lainey is now. In 1996 Reba was selling out arenas in minutes. In 1986 she was still playing State Fairs.

What I find interesting is seeing where we go from here. The landscape of country music is almost unrecognizable from less than 5 years ago. The new and sudden giants of Lainey and Jelly Roll will continue to dominate the EOTY landscape for years to come as well as both male/female vocalist categories. Morgan and Luke will continue to tour and stream like madmen. What will happen, though, to the giants of the 2000s, Aldean/Bryan/Underwood/Lambert? Will any of the new blood (Moroney, Whitters, McCollum, etc) rise to the heights of some of the others like it seems they might be able to, or will they fizzle and fade like most of the new artists that came about in the past 10 years.
Who I'm most interested about is Kelsea. She was fully snubbed with her best output of her career which tells me, and probably her, that she's unlikely to earn the accolades she deserves. With Maren fully out the door with Kacey right in front of her, I wonder if Kelsea will find that as her fate as well.

If there is anyone that I can genuinely see go to "Taylor Swift" route and be successful is Kelsea (of course no where near as successful). But, I do think she truly enjoys and has fun being in Country music and don't see her leaving.

I don’t think the Wallen and Combs thing will last more than another album or two. Not to say they won’t be absolute behemoths of the genre then, but I do think there will come an exhaustion point where they aren’t taking up 80% of the charts for years at a time. Consumers will eventually drift in different directions and the fan-girlies will move onto the next big thing. I also think more people than not (fans and executives alike) are over the current dynamics of the charts, so I can see some strategic changes occurring over the next couple of years to try to balance things out. Wallen owns the airways and streaming world but the decision-makers aren’t on board, clearly, so I don’t see his star shining this bright a whole lot longer. I think Combs will ultimately have a lot more staying power, which is how it should be because he’s exponentially better than Wallen. Anyway, both will always be superstars - no doubt about it, but things change on a dime in this industry and all it takes a the next big thing to change everything!

Didn’t even watch the show, forgot it was on lmao. That’s not gonna stop me from bringing this year’s milestones!
—Lainey Wilson becomes the first and only artist to top the nominations list in their first two appearances on the final list of nominees, having also lead the nominations at the previous ceremony. She is the first new female artist to be nominated for Entertainer of the Year since Carrie Underwood received her first nomination in 2016. Wilson is also the first artist to have two nominations in the Single of the Year category in the same year since 2010, when Miranda Lambert's hits "White Liar" and "The House That Built Me" were both nominated.
—Lainey now ties Merle Haggard and Miranda Lambert for the second most nominations in a single year with nine nominations. Alan Jackson holds the record with 10 in 2002.
—This is the first time in CMA history that two women have been nominated for Entertainer of the Year in four consecutive years.
—Miranda Lambert ties with Martina McBride for the second most nominations in the Female Vocalist of the Year category, with seventeen. Reba McEntire leads with eighteen nominations.
—The War and Treaty became the first African-american duo to be nominated for Duo of the Year, and the first married couple nominated since Thompson Square in 2015. They are also the first gender mixed duo to be nominated since Sugarland in 2018.
—Brooks & Dunn extend their lead for most nominations in the Duo of the Year category, with 24.
—Jo Dee Messina received her first nomination in over two decades. She was last nominated in 2002 for Vocal Event of the Year for her collaboration with Tim McGraw, “Bring On The Rain.”
—Old Dominion wins Vocal Group of the Year, tying The Statler Brothers, Little Big Town, and Rascal Flatts for the longest win streak in the category with six.
—Jay Joyce is now third in most career nominations for Album of the Year with 15, only behind producer Tony Brown (24) and George Strait (19).
—Little Big Town has the longest consecutive nomination streak for Vocal Group. They have been on the final ballot for 18 years in a row since 2006.

While I do think Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen will probably won't reach the levels of airplay and exposure (both "Last Night" and "Fast Car" are projected to finish in the Top 10 on the year end Billboard Hot 100) I definitely think both are absolute mainstays in the genre for a long time as Luke Combs has only been around for 7 years and Morgan Wallen didn't truly breakthrough until 2019 with "Whiskey Glasses". Both are gonna be A-listers and the face of the genre for a long time.
In general I do think the group of Kane Brown, Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Bailey Zimmerman, Combs and Wallen is gonna dominate the mainstream and/or award circuit for a while as they are all insanely popular with people.
I also just don't see Kelsea Ballerini really ever leaving country for pop. She has always been close with the genre, and despite not winning any CMAs I do think her being nominated for album does indicate the industry. That and I also don't think her herself has any desire to leave the genre of music.

Don't want to keep hammering the Kelsea conversation, and although I do agree she thoroughly enjoys being a part of country & many parts of its community, she's been open about how she wants to do more of the 'pop things' such as arena tours with fireworks and floating stages and has clearly enjoyed the success of RUTWM, an admittedly pop album. All that to say, I'm not fully expecting it, but I didn't expect Maren at all -- and yes they were for different reasons, but Kelsea has been open about many of those same feelings. "LA" seemed to put it perfectly when she put it out ~5 years ago, and I bet those dueling feelings still exist.

Given the music scene favoring crossovers instead of distinct genres, it would be wise for Kelsea to hop between country and pop instead of making full commitment to either genre.
