Calm Dowm is at 35 weeks inside the Top 10, 2 weeks away from tying Blinding Lights for longest Top 10 run in AT40 history. Remember when songs rarely made it 15 weeks inside the entire Top 40??? Also, we now know the Top 40 of 2023... the #1 song of the year will not be Calm Down. It will be #2. The "USA Top 40 Survey" Countdown Show

The "USA Top 40 Survey" Countdown ShowI get that it's tradition and all, but good gosh, it's 2023 - we have faster technology - when determining the Top xx for a particular year, it really should not be determined until December 15 at the earliest. Just my two cents... tired of songs that peak the prior Thanksgiving being #1 for the following year.

Just to piggy back off my earlier comment as I was listening to a classic AT40 show from 1981 and a listener asked what song spent the longest inside the Top 40. The answer was a 4 way tie. 26 weeks. The latest being How Deep Is Your Love from 1977. Ironically, it was a show that had 8 debuts in it. That's a rare thing too. The "USA Top 40 Survey" Countdown Show

Interesting that they went with "Slut!" as the Breakout... Not a great surprise. This time two weeks ago, that was the song that was close to cracking the top 40. They only switched tack to 'Is It Over Now?' mid-week.

Dientes is still an "On the Verge" song. It's not going to chart.

Timbaland/Nelly Furtado/Justin Timberlake - Keep Going Up!
It bombed. Wow. The song is still alive on the Hot AC chart though.

Interviews: hr3 - Tate McRae (about So You Think You Can Dance dancing), later hr3 - Paul Russell about the song, hr4 - Selena Gomez about the song
sponsors: mattress fund, home depot, lifelock
new #1 dance - Zara Larsson and David Guetta - On My Love

The successful collaboration with those three was 16 years ago. Timberlake has been discussed ad nauseum, and Timbaland/Furtado, while both respectable artists, haven't exactly had heavy chart presence in recent years.

The way it looks on Mediabase, Better Place is also bombing And that is why I will never be a record executive: The songs I get hot and bothered by all tank and the ones I am ambivalent towards become mega hits.... I was hoping Better Place would get a bounce with the release of the Trolls 3. It is featured prominently in the movie.

I gotta say... this is the first time in a good while that I listened to the show in its entirety, and you know what... I enjoyed it. Seacrest seems to employ the right amount of trivia - enough to capture your interest without drowning you in it like Kasem would do. About 50 songs, none of which lasted too long, and he identified every single one of them. Yes, there are improvements to be made around the edges (we really don't need so many unnecessary extras, and it'd be helpful if he simply gave the up/down stats for all songs), but all things considered, he's adapted to the 2020's.

Just acknowledge the up/down/debut stats for each song and you'd appease a good amount of the fanbase that cares. The important part...

Looks like Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift will peak out at number 2 this time back up the top 10 but what a run. Hands down she has made a mark of being the most succesful mark in the 21st century. Rihanna had it going from 2005 to 2026 but has cooled off considerably since then. This song about summer in the winter lasting this long in the top shows Taylor Swift’s staple of being all time greatness.

What's remarkable is that she only has 1 song ranked inside the Top 100 over that same period. Anti-Hero at #99. Dua Lipa has 4 songs in the Top 50 and 3 inside the Top 12. Cruel Summer currently ranks #168.

I wish Ryan would give the up/down stats for the songs, but other than that, Ryan hosting the show is the best. He can keep me engaged and enjoy the countdown. When a guest-host fills in, it becomes more boring and annoying than entertaining.

Yes Taylor swift is on a roll. Ryan Seacrest mentioned that she has atleast one hit appearance per year for 17 straight years which obviously will be 18 the first week of 2024 unless ‘hell freezes over’. Is this a factual AT40 record? Madonna had a healthy stretch from 1983 to the late 90’s but not sure it was 17 straight years for her.

Madonna had 22 straight years from 1983-2004, at least according to AT40's current stats. "Me Against the Music" spent its final week in the R&R top 40 on 12/19/03, so it was counted down on the first show of 2004. (She actually didn't appear on AT40 in 1988, but "Spotlight" made the R&R chart which is what AT40 retroactively uses.)

(She made the AT40 top 5 in 2017 with “Love On the Brain”). Though Rihanna’s cool off is in large part due to her focusing on her fashion and general business career since then, which by many accounts made her the first billionaire female pop artist, with Taylor now the second such. Though I’d like to know when the last time any pop artist had as many or more consecutive years making the pop top 40 every year (as defined by AT40, Radio & Records, and/or Billboard) as Taylor Swift has from 2007 to likely at least 2024. Probably not since the 20th century.

Taylor has 4 songs inside the 2023 year end Top 20.
