DaBaby, Megan Thee Stallion, Roddy Ricch (maybe also Lil Baby considering 2020 was his peak) just to name a few were among the primary driving forces in hip-hop during 2020. It all seemed like they were going to be the new big stars of the rap scene, but then came 2021 and each artists started having a commercial downfall. We all know what happened with DaBaby, Megan who was the rap it girl of the year albums started flopping and Roddy Ricch just completely fell off.

Most crossover rap artists don’t get a long shelf life. Drake is the exception not the rule.

Their sound/style was very of-that-moment and trendy and just didn't translate well beyond that time.
Making music that will go viral on TikTok is rarely going to create a lasting career.
I would not count Megan Thee Stallion because she has continued to be reasonably successful after that.

I wouldn’t count Megan out just yet! I think she has at least one or two more mainstream hits in the vault somewhere.

DaBaby got canceled for his shitty anti-LGBT attitude. Roddy had one song people liked, the actual hype for him was small. Megan still has appeal and could easily snag more hits. Her last album just wasn't very strong.
