In anticipation for Friday, I decided to revisit one of Sweetener's best songs (minus the instrumental!)

Goodnight N Go is the best song on Sweetener. I love that song to pieces.

Ariana has never even pulled off a short album, no desire to see a long one from her. 11 tracks is fine. 11 tracks is fine, but I'm disappointed its only 30 minutes long once you take out the intro & interlude

So...i have opinions on the album, gonna do it later today. BUT, i think "We cant be friends" is gonna be super polarizing. I, personally, think it's one of the cheapest, most generic songs she has ever recorded. Sounds like something a c-listed european pop singer would record (being a bit overdramatic for the sake of it lol), but on the other hand, is safer, pop-ier, bigger than YEs,and...and i know a lot of people are expecting it from her, so.... I also think it samples something, but I just can't really put my finger on it. Gonna try to figure it out. i THINK its robyn, probably "Dancing on my own". I mean, P!nk had a decent-sized hit with "Trustfall" which aped Robyn's sounds, so why not someone with more Pop radio traction in the US?

I feel like ‘yes, and?’ was polarizing for a lot of people so I’m ready for the Pulse meltdowns on Friday. I’m probably gonna love the album since I really like ‘yes, and?’ and I always love when Ariana works with Max.

The meltdowns on Pulse will be bigger than we've ever seen in over a decade. I cannot WAIT! For me, I'm obsessed with "yes, and" (extended)!

i’m sorry but if it sounds like anything robyn did on body talk i just don’t see it being cheap at all lmao i’m looking forward to hearing it I feel like ‘yes, and?’ was polarizing for a lot of people so I’m ready for the Pulse meltdowns on Friday. I’m probably gonna love the album since I really like ‘yes, and?’ and I always love when Ariana works with Max. To clarify, i feel that it's gonna be polarizing for exactly the opposite reasons that Yes,and... was, as paradoxical as it may sound. People are constantly complaining about the lack of Pop Ari. well, they are gonna get that (even if its a "european" version of it) with this song, but it really just feels super ordinary. And for the album, not gonna do a big review, but i guess i felt her completely disconnected from it? The evolution of the last 3, 4 albums is evident, even the ones that don't appreciate R&B Ari are aware of it. She had a pretty clear sound on every album, her goal, musically, was pretty clear on all of them. This one? i don't get it. Maybe once i hear the full thing again i may, but to be honest i doubt it. It just all sounds pretty been there done that, or worse, that others have already done, and better. The same opinion applies to Max. There are plenty of songs by him that i feel "heard it before", but that is the first time with a full album. I guess i would highlight "The boy is mine" (that is, for sure, the song she mentioned as being inspired by "Fantasy") and "Don't wanna break up again". But just to be a bit of a jerk, and tease u all a bit: I enjoy Fantasy more than anything on this album =p people from her label described the album as “house music with a little R&B”. would you say that’s accurate?

Sounds like she made an album just to give fans new music as a gift/holdover bc Wicked versus it being a project she was heavily invested in emotionally, which is fine. Not every album has to be a passionate masterpiece (doesn’t mean she didn’t care or put effort into it).

The fact that it's a concept album (and the way she talks about it) makes me feel like she put a lot into it idk.

Yet...it appears she is doubling down, from what I gather (even outside of Yes, And?) so I'm not sure if that's gonna work. Whatever. I just hope the music is good because I went back through her catalog and overall, it's very strong. My Everything remains her weakest album.

I thought Positions was a much better album than most of Pulse gave it credit for, and that most of it is superior to Yes, and...
I don't mind her doing more straightforward pop if it's well crafted and not just air like YA.

As long as she doesn't go back to the complete anonymity of My Everything, which has not aged well in the least, I am OK. Oh:

yes and... grew on me immensley due to the Mariah remix, so I'm nervously excited for this. Although I'm interested what cheap pop sounds like. Cheap Thrills?
EDIT: That pun (?) was unintentional

Some record store employee (?) posted a video of herself playing the vinyl in-store, so you can hear part of the opening track.

I'm not worried about this at all She always delivers and has always given me what I need during the time (lyrically) even with yes, and? although it burned on me already (I suspect it to be better in the context of the album)

It's not an attention-commanding album in the way TUN is, but I like throwing it on. Kind of surprised this is a midnight ET release WW.

"the boy is my mine" is a fucking bop! I can easily see this being the most streamed track just based on the title alone.

Oh this is not what I expected based on yes, and? - much more r&b (not complaining). Lots of new production flourishes for her (especially in the later songs). Sounding good to me on a first listen.

"ordinary things" is classic Ariana with the horns and lush bg vocals. Even Nonna at the end makes sense.

We can’t be friends is amazing. Favorite on my first listen of everything. Not sure why they picked Yes, and? as the lead.
