It's the odd one in the sense that this is the last song left by a male in the rankdown. I didn't think Fast Car needs country re-introduction to us music lovers because it's a classic to begin with, but judging from the massive success in country grenre in 2023, it deserves to be introduced to that specific crowd. It's astonishing to see this swept the Single and Song of the Year in CMA Awards, and even leads to a duet between original singer Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs on the Grammy Awards show with excellent perception, bringing the original back to Hot 100 too! Condolences to castleoblivion26 , Fire and HeyHeyHey for losing your #1.

What a perfect top 2! Slightly rooting for Kelsea, but I think Carly has it, and I'm good with it as well.

This was good, but I'm glad it didn't contend for the win. Kelsea vs. Carly with some of their biggest bops to date.

One of the best songs from Subject to Change and Kelsea Ballerini in general. Solid The Chicks sound (specifically If I Fall You're Going Down with Me) homage, an equally fun music video about friendship and a CMT Music Awards performance that extends to a stand with drag queens. Condolences to raylatch98 , fearlessarrow and zaclord š for losing your #1.
The only song that would beat What He Didn't Do is Carly Pearce's own new single, lol And her new single is moved to next year so we shall see, but this is the obvious winner to me, even if I were not hosting. Everyone knew this will be a hit, despite it being delayed to radio as her team wants to push Never Wanted To Be That Girl first. Definitely deserve to be an even bigger hit in the end still. Congratulations to SHOOTER and bigfan101 for your #1 winning the rankdown! This is also Carly Pearce's third win of country year-end rankdown in the last four years.

That's another country year-end rankdown done, and imo a better recent year-end. Thanks to all of you who submitted for the rankdown and some audience who comment even though the comments are mostly for that reveal. I have previously hosted a few 100-song rankdowns before but this is easily the rankdown with heaviest workload I have done based on sheer volume of participants list. Now I know there are quite a few optional rankdown features missing like reveal graphics and artists performance history (which will definitely be added later don't worry), and maybe the reveals are not as entertaining as the other ones, but at least hopefully I get the basic hosting job (timely and correct reveals) done.
There are a few of loose ends I want to cover aside from the usual stats post. I'll still host the final volume of my indie/lesser known country rankdown at some point but given the very hectic schedule of year-end rankdowns, I will push it further to launch it. Also I'll see if anyone wants to host March Madness (hey random winners are nice sometimes, you know?) too.

Tennessee Orange is fantastic, and so is Megan Moroney. She is one of my fav new females on the chart right now, and so happy to see her doing well so far! Is LBTrocks from Georgia? I cannot stand her or this atrocious song, rant incoming

Sorry but I think Luke's take on "Fast Car" blows... the original ain't' even a fav of mine but it is way better than this. "Tennessee Orange" is pure garbage to my ears. Such an abysmal, lifeless, drab, generic, nothing of a song. Terrible melody, vocals are annoying, and the lyrics are awful and incredibly stupid. If this is what passes as good songwriting these days than YIKES. One of the most overrated songs and artists I've seen on Pulse in a long while. "Lucky" and "No Caller ID" are bops but other than that, just EW to Megan Moroney. Emily Ann Roberts should be the IT girl not Moroney. "What He Didn't Do" is stellar melodically and yes lyrically too... Carly is still a weak AF vocalist and I wish anyone else sang this, but i have to give her credit. Amazing song... and considering our #1 contenders, not upset this took it.... recordyear honestly thank you for hosting! I loved your style... great work. Will likely vote for you for Host of the Year if you're nomninated lol

First off, thanks for hosting Recordyear. You are an all time GOAT.
Second off, White Horse isn't just my favorite song on this list, it is a strong contender for my favorite song of all time. It just works for me in ever my single way.

āWhat He Didnāt Doā deserves the top spot as for a number one song it never burned on me and I sing along still every time I hear it. I will say her latest radio single is to me a big step down from her other material so hopefully she can release something better as her next single. Also I know you see I ranked a lot of number one hits towards the bottom and that was mainly because they are good songs but I have heard them way too much on the radio and they have burned on me.

10. Well atleast we let her better song make the top 10 here. 9. I think this is decent but man is every song in this top 10 head & shoulders above it. Lemme hope Wildflowers and Wild Horses does better next year. 8. Honestly not even one of his 10 best songs or even one of the 3 best songs on that album. And with how great this already is that's saying a LOT. 7. I really wish this won or atleast made top 3. Everything about it goes off in a insane way. 6. This making it so high is a bit of a lol moment but the song is good all the same. 5. Not her best song (Lucky CLEARS) but still a really nice love song. 4. I kinda wish either of Ashley's songs i heard in WTM seed 3 (the only seed i did ) were here instead of this but this is still really good. 3. Still wish this didn't get this high but i get it. It's a really good cover of a amazing song, just not one that i'd put among my favorites from Luke. 2. I'm kinda shocked this got as far as here but we all need a great friendship song at some point and boy this delivers. 1. Idk if this winning makes much sense to me but does it deserve it? Yes it's fucking amazing. Atleast we agree that Lucky is her best song. Everything else... well you said it best yourself. First off, thanks for hosting Recordyear. You are an all time GOAT. Second off, White Horse isn't just my favorite song on this list, it is a strong contender for my favorite song of all time. It just works for me in ever my single way. Honestly White Horse is already one of my favorite songs of all time lol. Thanks recordyear for hosting! It was a treat to participate in my first ever country rankdown!

I love Pearce. I've put her in my top ten before, and I'll likely do it again. What He Didn't Do just never fell up to her usual standard to me, especially on a year with some seriously special country tunes finally hitting the mainstream. Still, not a bad song and she definitely deserves her laurels. Meanwhile. Kelsea Ballerini just needs to be bigger. How'd we rank nothing from her EP here? As always, thank you very much recordyear for the fun times!

So happy with this winner! While I would've loved for White Horse to win as it's been on repeat for me lately, I didn't think it would have a shot at all lol. Carly is one of my favorites in the genre at least in modern times and What He Didn't Do is great.
Thank you record for hosting! Great rankdown.

Carly winning these has become quite standard, so not at all surprised this won, even if it's not quite on par with her masterpieces like "Never Wanted To Be That Girl". Would've loved to see "If You Go Down" take it, but i knew it would have a handful of detractors. Still, a pretty strong result for a modern YE. The top 4 were all in my top 6, so there's not much I can complain about. Thanks to recordyear for hosting this (in record time I might add).

I was really rooting for "Fast Car", regardless of where it ended up. Actually have the opposite sentiment of LBTrocks comparing the original 80's hit (decent, but not a fave of mine); it sounded perfect on the radio and deserved to be as huge as it was.

There isnāt a single artist in the format more overrated than Carly Pearce, but even I love What He Didnāt Do. Amazing song*.
āWatermelon Moonshineā is such a blatant rip off down to the freaking fruit. So bad.
*her vocals still suck though

I honestly spent more time on this year's rankdown than Iād like to admit, but thatās par for the course. Enjoyed following along with the results and thanks to recordyear for taking over the reins for 2023. Great job!

Decent effort from one of the new Black artists, previously competed in Season 16 of The Voice but eliminated in The Battles round. A bit oversung in the chorus.
This one deserved to do so much better, both here and on the radio. Great song and I wish Dalton Dover good luck with trying to find his own space in the industry and in Nashville.

While What He Didn't Do was my #3 on my list, It still just as much deserves the top spot as what I put above it. Incredible song from my favorite album of 2021, excited to hear what she has in store with ner next project!
