I just don't see this doing it for him. He can do something radio-ready without it being a song with no life to it. Nothing from Justin Bieber's Justice era was particularly amazing but he had some stuff that worked well like "Anyone" and "Hold On." That sound I think could've worked for JT.

lol this sounds soā¦ patriarchal. Itās only about āthe musicā for Justin but his past actions caused so much hate and ridicule on both Britney and Janet. It wasnāt just about āthe musicā for them when they were being publicly chastised and slut-shamed for things totally out of their control. Justin reeks of straight white male privilege and deserves to be treated the same way Chris Brown was treated for his indiscretions. Itās sad that so many people could so easily look the other way and support someone who has clearly wronged and used so many people for his personal gain. until the end of time tho? Like can the man not try to live his life a little? I think it's very clear he does not think he's up there with current male stars like Harry Styles or Justin Bieber. Is he not allowed to make music anymore? Is he not allowed to hold any job at all? like omg That rat has NEVER shown one ounce of remorse or issued a public apology or tried to make amends with the women that he screwed over. If he had any humanity he would have done that along time ago. Instead he uses his white straight male privilege to avoid all of the drama that HE created and still has ignorant fans that refuse to take off their rose colored glasses in order to see him for the crappy human being that he is. When Janet Jackson was being raked through the mud after the Super Bowl incident (that he caused mind you, on accident or on purpose) he went radio silent and let her take all of the heat from racist, sexist assholes. Heās never been a man, heāll always be a little rat in my book.

Meh, as a non-fan, itās fine. Not bad, but boring I donāt like Justinās voice (his only recent songs J listened to were Mirrors and Say Something), and all the Britney stuff has made me dislike him as a person. However, this sounds like itās going more back to his roots and I can see why his fans are delighted, which is I guess all that matters.

Kudos to KBFF Portland for being (probably) the only station to be on the ball and play this before 6am yesterday. The song dropped 5am Pacific time yesterday, and no-one except for KBFF was up early enough to add it to their playlist for the 5:00 hour. 5:22 according to their "Recently played"! (I suppose there could be one or two more but KBFF is the only one showing an overnight spin yesterday which would have to be between 5-6am)

āSelfishā is the first song on a few new music playlists on Apple Music along with a photo. Is he high on the Spotify lists as well?? I think this song gets better with each listen. Itās becoming or has become a favorite for the time being. Personally as a person I donāt mind him, but never found him to be as funny as many others find him. I hope they donāt put him in to many skits on SNL. I saw him on the tour he did with XTina back in the day. I went with a bunch of girls who went to see him more than her and they all raved about her. I went to see XTina more and thought he was amazing. She was great to, but I was more impressed by him.

And of course it doesn't, lol. The production is a major issue on this, pretty much the same droning pre-programmed drum beat with no variety or sense of release. Based on the live version, this would have been elevated with some real instruments and more layering. As is though, it's pleasant. The chorus, post-chorus and bridge are nice. I'm curious how radio is going to react. I think going with something more simple/low-key was a smart move. But this may be too simple/low-key. You should be a music critic! You are spot on with your reviews of songs. Awwwww... thanks boo. But let's see if you have that same energy when the next Camila single drops. I kid, I kid! I give her a hard time, but I fan her a little.

Meh, didn't care for this. I agree with others that the production left something to be desired, and I just found this to be very generic overall. Didn't think the vocals were anything special either.

Pretty standard start for a song with a radio deal (I just assume this had one).
Anyway, didn't debut in the top 200 on US Spotify.

Didn't all of his Trolls songs debut on Spotify in some capacity. Maybe it will pop up on Saturday.
I'm not rooting for him at all this era, but I am morbidly interested in how the public will treat him this time around. Justin has skated by on so much and it never really effects his music. He's just the kind of person that gets constant passes for things, that others are raked over the coals for. Man Of The Woods notwithstanding, I'm curious if anything will even partially stick to him this upcoming era.

I respect anybodyās right to not like JT for his past, but at a certain point we can recognize heās been married for 13 years and is a dad now living his life. There are so many other offenders like Chris Brown that actively get passes today.
As far as the music goes, I am also going to assume it had a radio deal, but just wasnāt sure. I donāt expect this to be a huge mega hit. But again, his career doesnāt need that right now, either. He just needs a medium sized hit and a decent album to go tour.

The whole point of the backlash is more about. once again, another figure being on top while having their actions sidelined. People are tired of Chris Brown still having his career despite refusing to grow up with constant tantrums and violent outbursts that can even come off genuinely racist. Also this whole āit happened 20 years ago, get over itā excuse just feels like it pushes so much under the bus. Like imagine using this excuse with figures like Diddy or Bill Cosby (it doesnāt matter if JT hasnāt done anything up to THEIR level). Kinda doesnāt help that this was basically a catalyst for a major figure to be a target of humiliation, and soon TRAUMA for two decades.
Iām just done debating about this or hell, done caring about it. There are much worse people doing damage to the world than some celebrity who hasnāt been relevant in a decade. JT is hardly worth my time anymore, neither is his modern music that will just play at pharmacies these days.

Respectfully, JT is not Bill Cosby, and therefore does not deserve to be grouped into the same level of ācancellationā as Bill Cosby. And if we are being real real, Britney and Janet both have copious amounts of trauma without JT. These women deserve to live their best lives and I hope they get to, but I hardly doubt they sit at home crying two decades later over him.

To be fair about the "general public streaming", this didn't even appear on Spotify's top 200.

His streaming totals are very decent for someone that hasn't had a hit album on the streaming era. CSTF! Is well above 1 billion and Mirrors will get there this year probably.

Britney and Janet both have copious amounts of trauma without JT. These women deserve to live their best lives and I hope they get to, but I hardly doubt they sit at home crying two decades later over him. This is true, but again there seems to be this glossing over of the fact that his actions actually contributed even more grievous harm to those two women, and he actively made their lives worse with his antics than what they were already experiencing. Again, it feels like Justin never has to answer for it or there's this facsimile, mealy mouthed, baby toothed apology that is anemic for all the harm he caused, and likely knew he was causing while he was doing it. And for a long time in the 2000's and 2010's he was looked at as this wildly successful male god. It's misogynistic and just gross looking back on it now. I personally have a really difficult time with forgiveness, and I believe actions should have consequences, and Justin walked by completely unscathed for the longest time without having to answer for anything. Giving him another pass, again under the argument of it's been years feels like yet another injustice against these women. And if we are being real, real -- it's not unlikely that these women were crying a lot when these events that he perpetuated happened to them, and he actively made it worse with his songs, music videos, live performances, and basically laughed in their faces after everything.
