This was a hit back home in Peru, and an even bigger hit in gay dance clubs :) one of my yearned top 10 hits, too, so I’m ecstatic at this resurgence and the chance of finally becoming a hit in the US. The 1-2-3 punch of Groovejet, Murder… and Get Over You was great! Her 4th entry in my personal chart was Today’s the Sun on Us, another hit, and the next one was the amazing Not Giving Up On Love (with Armin van Buuren), which should’ve been another big hit in 2010 when electronic music was getting mainstream. Crossing fingers to this reaching the top 10!!!

i wonder if there is a way to check radio station playlists of when this was out originally to see which ones played it then. i am not sure if i remember it but i wonder if one of my pop/rhythmic stations might have played it.

I was kinda gutted when she didn't happen in the US 23 years ago as she was one of my 00s pop heroes and had resigned myself to the fact that i would be one of the old stans that ensures this song does not get forgotten. That it is happening at all is the greatest affirmation a longtime fan could ever dream of, and i gotta say it is surreal AF. That said, the world we are living in is kinda crazy right now and this song cracking America might just finally be possible..

If I get it right She does not have a label in US And this is why she can have spins for let say top 20 but it will not be counted bc of some rule that only label can make right?

I would hope this flips from 'Gold' to 'Current' in the final update, but I don't think we've even heard about a radio push yet so... IDK. I saw an article that she signed a new deal with Universal so I imagine they'd be behind promoting this to radio.

Just realizing right now this was written by the dude from the New Radicals, if you are unfamiliar, guy named Gregg Alexander who wrote “You Only Get What You Give”, prior to this song, after this song? “Game of Love” with Michelle Branch.
When you think about it, those songs have a similar sound, just with different production in respect to their style of music. Crazy.

^ Maybe not in the US, but Gregg is a credited writer on several of Sophie's UK hits as well as several Ronan Keating hits (also in the UK). He's also a credited writer on the winner's single for the Australian Popstars season 3 winner Scott Cain (a #1 hit here).

Okay, old music dorks unite. This whole “Gregg Alexander” situation gets much more interesting. At the time of this release, I recall many being puzzled why Mruder wasn’t pushed more if at all stateside, I also remember a HEAVILY pushed and promoted artist at the time in the US was a woman by the name of Carly Hennessy with a song “I’m Gonna Blow Your Mind” sounded identical in ways to “Murder”, but more in with the guitar-driven American production. Sure enough, look up who wrote that song? Gregg Alexander, and for some reason the song completely flopped even though callout was very good. My theory is “Murder” was never released in the US because Gregg flopped with Carly, and I believe also flopped with Ronin Keating stateside, who also had very high callout with “Lovin’ Each Day” It is an industry reference of record companies being very cautious of how they spent money on debut artists because of the “Carly Hennessy” disaster. They invested millions and sold maybe a few hundred albums. Pretty sure she was an Idol finalist years later. Really interesting stuff altogether. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bI3Sz9Ihqew

It wasn't that uncommon for European pop stars like Sophie to not get a proper US push in the early 00s. The US charts were so hostile to out and out pop by 2003-ish, it was probably seen as a bad investment.
Sophie is probably one of the bigger stars at the time never to land a US chart hit, but Steps would be another great example. Huge in the UK, still touring stadiums to this day, but nothing on CHR or the Hot 100.
Another interesting one would be Anastacia, who is an American artist but found success in Europe first and arguably had a very European sound. Her first three albums sold millions in Europe and her biggest hits like I'm Outta Love and Left Outside Alone were inescapable, but I don't think she has any Hot 100 hits either.
Also the major British girl groups of the time, Girls Aloud and the Sugababes. I know All Saints had a big hit with Never Ever, but they have five number ones in the UK. I was always surprised Pure Shores never did anything in the USA, considering it was on the soundtrack to The Beach and was absolutely massive over here.

Also not technically European (though we basically claim her in the UK these days!) Kylie Minogue is probably the ultimate example. Can't Get You Out of My Head was big in the US I know, but that only got pushed after it basically went to #1 in every other western country in the world. Before that she'd already had her big European comeback in 2000 with Spinning Around and the Light Years album, which weren't even released in America as far as I know.
I was a big chart watcher at the time and it always felt weirder when a major Euro artist actually did break through and reach the upper Hot 100. Samantha Mumba, Mis-Teeq, Sarah Connor - they were totally the exceptions, rather than the rule.

Robbie Williams might want to join this conversation.
Anyhow hoping this becomes the Spring Break #1 Hit of 2024. Think it’s possible too.

Steps did attempt to breakthrough in the US but it never happened. They even opened for Britney Spears. They also pushed Sugababes in the states, but "Hole in the Head" only reached #96 on the Hot 100.
If anyone is interested, here are some internationally successful acts who are essentially one hit wonders in the US (video was made like 2 years ago and was still trying to figure things out so apologies if quality is low)

Mediabase letting it chart today at pop radio at #42. also has at least 57 spins at Hot AC with the all station numbers.
