Why is this the best thing I've heard from her so far? Like... she's a lot closer to doing something actually *workable* with the subject matter (as opposed to 'Lemon', which could easily have worked based on what she'd said it was about in interviews - except the lyrics of that song were so trite, surface-level and one-note that she may as well have been describing a different song).
To me the lyrics still hold this back, but if this had been the pop single achieving what 'Lemon' did, IDK I don't think I'd be mad about it. But I think this shows maybe there is something there? Unless her lyrics never rise above the level of this lol.

At least it's better than Lemon. She really has a thing for making her songs offensively vulgar.

I dig the groove in this - and really like how it ends. Could see it moving higher...but don't know about a Top 15+ Alt. run. Would love to be wrong.
K. Flay "Blood In The Cut" was a quote-unquote "unlikely" hit in the mid-late 2010s. There are of course plenty of others.

I have to wonder when someone will finally hit that tipping point from being an indie nightcrawler to an actual radio success, whether it's this woman and whether pop or Alt is the first one to make that leap. 'Run' has been making some moves on Pop, I wonder how long before one of her songs is an actual airplay hit.
Whether the song in question winds up being any good is another matter entirely.

This is really good, I think. Yes, the lyrics can be perceived as juvenile but they fit well with the melody and instruments.
By the way, who IS Smith????!!! It seems nobody knows who this person is.....
