I hope this doesn’t become a trend after Fast Car’s success

Seems like there is a country tribute album to Tom Petty coming judging from the single cover.

Maybe this release will make sense eventually but I can’t help but think I much prefer pretty much all the songs on Gravel & Gold to this cover.

This isn't bad, but listening to this song and this does nothing for me. Just the chorus melody doesn't work for me at all. I get why the label is moving on from his last album, but this is pretty mediocre compared to said material from his last album.

Not a bad song, but I just don't care for this kind of revival (of course, with the exception of Fast Car), especially for a radio single. I just wish that he would be giving us some original lead single from his next album era, as this tribute project itself does not really interest me.

Is Dierks still at Capitol? The label information on Apple Music said Big Machine and had me confused.

Yeah this is a weird choice to send to radio, just isn’t memorable at all. It’s one of those songs (and artists) that’s pretty much impossible to cover very well

I don’t think I’ve ever sense a label push a song by an artist that isn’t signed to them. I know Big Machine owns it, but still.

Dierks just needs to accept the fact that he’s probably done having hit songs and just 100% go in on Hot Kountry Knights! Parody or not HKK music is better than anything Dierks has released recently.

I don't see how he's done though? His last single flopped but of his 14 singles released to radio within the last decade only 3 have failed to make the Top 10 on country radio, with two of those being very late album singles ("Riser" and "What The Hell Did I Say"). I get if Hot Country Knights is the preferred choice but he is still pretty decently relevant in the country music scene as a solo artist.

Yeah saying Dierks’ radio career is over is a stretch.
The 2000s heavy hitters aren’t the radio darlings anymore (Dierks/Luke B/Jason/Carrie/Blake) but I’d say that radio success is still to be had by all of them. Might look more like top 10/20s over #1s, but still.

"Beers On Me" was almost 3 years ago. "Gold" even thou it got high on the charts is forgettable. I just feel the writing is on the wall......I just don't see him having any more hit songs unless he records a song with Combs or Wallen.

Something Real is his first single to flop in 7 years (since What The Hell Did I Say). And that's because the album bombed so they pulled it after a month

IMO Dierks has put out 3 great albums(RISER-BLACK-THE MOUNTAIN) and then there is Gravel & Gold
Can he cut his hair and maybe it would be great again

Dierks' version is not an awful cover by any means, but this remains my favourite cover of this iconic song:
