Big Blood - "1000 Times" (Dinosaur Encyclopedia, #1) vs Cardi B - "Enough (Miami)" (keatonzab, #6) "1000 Times" had a retro sound I like a lot! It reminds me to a song from the 50's-60's. "Enough" is probably the best I have heard from her in a long time. Is not enough to beat "1000 Times"
Shygirl f/ Cosha - "thicc" (lyhom, #1) vs Sierra Ferrell - "Why Haven't You Loved Me Yet" (recordyear, #6) This was a hard match-up as both songs are pretty enjoyable and solid, but I'll vote for "thicc" since I think I would revisit it more.
Addison Rae - "I got it bad" (woods, #1) vs Estoy Bien - "Frente A Frente" (MoD, #6) Hmm... honestly I ended pretty indifferent towards this two songs but gonna give the vote to the spanish song.
Kacey Musgraves - "The Architect" (SabrinaFan, #1) vs KNOWER - "Do Hot Girls Like Chords?" (zippy, #6) I felt like the Knower song was more memorable
Ryan Hurd - "Midwest Rock & Roll" (CLD, #1) vs Nothing More - "IF IT DOESN'T HURT" (macattack, #6) "Nothing More" gave me a headache. It also gave me a little PATD vibes.
Maddie & Tae - "Heart They Didn't Break" (bigfan101, #1) vs ANOHNI and the Johnsons - "Can't" (willapted33, #6) Both were enjoyable!
The Marías - "Run Your Mouth" (Gonza'90, #1) vs Janelle Monáe - "Champagne Shit" (woods, #6) The Marias song grabbed my attention more.
DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ - "Anything Lost (Can Be Found Again)" (samo, #1) vs Juliana Gattas - "Un Taxi al Infierno" (Gonza'90, #6) Put me in the boat of "all the dj sabrina songs sound the same to me" so yeah this was a no brainer when "Un Taxi Al Infierno" slaps.

Big Blood - "1000 Times" (Dinosaur Encyclopedia, #1) vs Cardi B - "Enough (Miami)" (keatonzab, #6) 1000 Times is cool enough. Catchy and a bit of a build up that I'm a sucker for. The vocals are a drawback for me here though. It's nice to see Cardi back but Enough falls flat for me.
Shygirl f/ Cosha - "thicc" (lyhom, #1) vs Sierra Ferrell - "Why Haven't You Loved Me Yet" (recordyear, #6) I'm not a huge Shygirl fan myself but she's played around me a lot which is a bit annoying. No worries on this one though, thicc has stood out for me since the EP dropped. Why Haven't You Loved Me Yet is nice as well and gives me strong Bikini Bottom vibes for some strange reason?? (which is a positive in my book).
Addison Rae - "I got it bad" (woods, #1) vs Estoy Bien - "Frente A Frente" (MoD, #6) I got it bad is okay, but nothing more than that. Frente A Frente is easily more enjoyable for me.
Kacey Musgraves - "The Architect" (SabrinaFan, #1) vs KNOWER - "Do Hot Girls Like Chords?" (zippy, #6) The Architect sums up my thoughts on Kacey's new album. It's quite simple, but that's perfectly fine because very few people do simplicity as well as Kacey does. Still, Do Hot Girls Like Chords is my favourite from the KNOWER record and takes this match up.
Ryan Hurd - "Midwest Rock & Roll" (CLD, #1) vs Nothing More - "IF IT DOESN'T HURT" (macattack, #6) Midwest Rock & Roll is good old Ryan Hurd, which means bland and cliche. Not my thing at all. I'm a pretty big Nothing More fan but I had no idea they released this. A bit disappointing because I don't like this too much after awaiting a new release from them. Surprisingly close but Nothing More marginally gets my vote here.
Maddie & Tae - "Heart They Didn't Break" (bigfan101, #1) vs ANOHNI and the Johnsons - "Can't" (willapted33, #6) Just as Midwest Rock & Roll is very Ryan Hurd, Heart They Didn't Break is very Maddie & Tae. It's nice, but not really my thing. Oh, oh wow. I NEED to finally check out the ANOHNI and the Johnsons album this weekend, because wow.
The Marías - "Run Your Mouth" (Gonza'90, #1) vs Janelle Monáe - "Champagne Shit" (woods, #6) Run Your Mouth is synthy and groovy goodness that doesn't overstay its welcome. Relatively short but gets to its point. Champagne Shit just can't compete here. Hope Janelle comes with something stronger next time around.
DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ - "Anything Lost (Can Be Found Again)" (samo, #1) vs Juliana Gattas - "Un Taxi al Infierno" (Gonza'90, #6) Let me tell you, once I saw this match up, I knew Un Taxi al Infierno would have to be one heck of a great discovery to beat Anything Lost for me. And to be honest, it made one heck of an attempt. Never heard of Juliana Gattas until now but I think I'll be taking a listen to some more of her stuff.

Big Blood - "1000 Times" (Dinosaur Encyclopedia, #1) vs Cardi B - "Enough (Miami)" (keatonzab, #6) I do really appreciate that Cardi B is gracing the charts with her proper singles again, and this is a super fun track, but wow 1000 Times just blew me away, especially with those strained but controlled vocals.
Shygirl f/ Cosha - "thicc" (lyhom, #1) vs Sierra Ferrell - "Why Haven't You Loved Me Yet" (recordyear, #6) Spiritually it makes sense these two are paired up. Two surface-level-simple songs executed with a lot of creativity. However, I think Sierra Ferrell's surf rock-esque break down wins out for me.
Addison Rae - "I got it bad" (woods, #1) vs Estoy Bien - "Frente A Frente" (MoD, #6) *googles if Estoy Bien are Chilean* Every time. How is that country consistently the best at Spanish rock? That said, I'm surprised how close Addison Rae came here. Really good electropop sensibilities on this track of hers.
Kacey Musgraves - "The Architect" (SabrinaFan, #1) vs KNOWER - "Do Hot Girls Like Chords?" (zippy, #6) Well, I feel like I sort of have to vote The Architect here considering it was on my list, too. Its lyrics make me stare out into space with a twitchy nose every time I listen to it. Jason Isbell played a side part in Killers of the Flower Moon, and dangit Musgraves should get the acting opportunity, too. She sells the soft desperation perfectly. Knower's great, just not as great as usual. Those opening hard rock-ish funk lines are some of the coolest sounds I've heard all year, though.
Ryan Hurd - "Midwest Rock & Roll" (CLD, #1) vs Nothing More - "IF IT DOESN'T HURT" (macattack, #6) I still don't get Nothing More. I've always been on the lowest side of ranks for them in Active rankdowns. Ryan Hurd's big hit with Maren Morris also never impressed me, so color me surprised at how well-executed the swell on Midwest Rock & Roll is.
Maddie & Tae - "Heart They Didn't Break" (bigfan101, #1) vs ANOHNI and the Johnsons - "Can't" (willapted33, #6) Hot damn those vocals on Can't are awesome. Enough said.
The Marías - "Run Your Mouth" (Gonza'90, #1) vs Janelle Monáe - "Champagne Shit" (woods, #6) Can't go wrong with the Marías, huh? I hope the recent signal boosts from Bad Bunny and Tainy pay out for them. Meanwhile, the songs off Janelle Monáe's latest album continue to be fun but well below her batting average.
DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ - "Anything Lost (Can Be Found Again)" (samo, #1) vs Juliana Gattas - "Un Taxi al Infierno" (Gonza'90, #6) Well, I guess I had to vote against DJ Sabrina one of these days. The vocal samples feel a lot more haphazard this time around. For the first time, I felt a DJ Sabrina song ran on too long. However, I think I'd still vote for Un Taxi al Infierno against some truly great DJ Sabrina tracks. The pulsating beat got my feet moving instantly, the vocals perfectly flow over them, and the sexual moan breakdown at the end was so damn funny.

Big Blood - "1000 Times" (Dinosaur Encyclopedia, #1) vs Cardi B - "Enough (Miami)" (keatonzab, #6) 1000 Times is a 3/5 for me. It's an enjoyable listen, but not something I'd personally seek out to listen to. "Enough" is a 2.5/5 for me. It's fine, but it's such a retread for Cardi and doesn't really go anywhere.
Shygirl f/ Cosha - "thicc" (lyhom, #1) vs Sierra Ferrell - "Why Haven't You Loved Me Yet" (recordyear, #6) "thicc" I want to like more than I do, but it's just a 3/5 for me. Something about it just doesn't click with me, but I can't put my finger on it. "Why Haven't You Loved Me Yet" is also a 3/5 for me. It's quite a pleasant listen, and I do enjoy the revisit of classic country western music. Both songs are pretty equal, but I gave it to Sierra for standing out just a bit more.
Addison Rae - "I got it bad" (woods, #1) vs Estoy Bien - "Frente A Frente" (MoD, #6) Um... excuse me, why is this Addison Rae song actually kind of a bop? 3.5/5 for me. I can appreciate what "Frente a Frente" is going for here, but it's not for me. 2/5.
Kacey Musgraves - "The Architect" (SabrinaFan, #1) vs KNOWER - "Do Hot Girls Like Chords?" (zippy, #6) "The Architect" isn't one of the immediate highlights of Deeper Well for me, but I do still like it. 3.5/5. "Do Hot Girls" has some interesting stuff in it, but also quite a bit that I don't care for. 2.5/5.
Ryan Hurd - "Midwest Rock & Roll" (CLD, #1) vs Nothing More - "IF IT DOESN'T HURT" (macattack, #6) Ryan Hurd's voice is terribly grating, but particularly here as he tries to give some guttural rock vocal to this otherwise bland Daughtry-goes-country instrumental. As someone from the Midwest, this most certainly is not "Midwest rock & roll." The melody is catchy, though. 2/5. "IF IT DOESN'T HURT" is another really nice listen, but there just isn't a spark that I'm looking for to hook me in. 3/5 for me.
Maddie & Tae - "Heart They Didn't Break" (bigfan101, #1) vs ANOHNI and the Johnsons - "Can't" (willapted33, #6) I feel like Maddie & Tae (and countless others) have made this exact song dozens of times now. There's nothing to pick out that's necessarily bad, it's just kinda dull. 2.5/5. I can see why people would really like "Can't," but there's something about the vocals that really turns me off. 2/5
The Marías - "Run Your Mouth" (Gonza'90, #1) vs Janelle Monáe - "Champagne Shit" (woods, #6) "Run Your Mouth" is a banger! It just keeps getting better with every listen. Solid 4.5/5. "Champagne Shit" is one of the best tracks off The Age of Pleasure as well, another 4.5/5 for me. Absolutely the toughest matchup of the round for me. I'll give the edge to The Marias more so because the album as a whole from Janelle is a bit disappointing, which does leave a bit of a negative taste in my mouth with "Champagne" even if I do love it.
DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ - "Anything Lost (Can Be Found Again)" (samo, #1) vs Juliana Gattas - "Un Taxi al Infierno" (Gonza'90, #6) I really wish I could understand the love for DJ Sabrina. It just sounds like a bunch of poking around on your favorite DAW for a few hours with no real structure of what you're actually wanting the finished product to sound like. And... I guess that could be the point? Some sort of performative statement art in that sense I guess. Sort of an avant garde thing I've heard of with other forms of media. But it's just not anything I can ever enjoy. 1.5/5. "Un Taxi" is fine, but not my cup of tea. 2.5/5. Still beats DJ Sabrina, though.

Big Blood - "1000 Times" (Dinosaur Encyclopedia, #1) vs Cardi B - "Enough (Miami)" (keatonzab, #6) - 1000 times is cute, Enough is not a good comeback single
Shygirl f/ Cosha - "thicc" (lyhom, #1) vs Sierra Ferrell - "Why Haven't You Loved Me Yet" (recordyear, #6) - Thicc is so fucking haute
Addison Rae - "I got it bad" (woods, #1) vs Estoy Bien - "Frente A Frente" (MoD, #6) - Addison Rae making good pop music, never would have expected it
Kacey Musgraves - "The Architect" (SabrinaFan, #1) vs KNOWER - "Do Hot Girls Like Chords?" (zippy, #6) - Not a fav off the new Kacey album meanwhile every Knower song I've heard I have liked very much.
Ryan Hurd - "Midwest Rock & Roll" (CLD, #1) vs Nothing More - "IF IT DOESN'T HURT" (macattack, #6) - why my least favorite songs of the set against one another
Maddie & Tae - "Heart They Didn't Break" (bigfan101, #1) vs ANOHNI and the Johnsons - "Can't" (willapted33, #6) - not crazy over either of these but Maddie & Tae kinda are committed to making forgettable country songs all the time so the latter feels more unique and appealing by default a bit.
The Marías - "Run Your Mouth" (Gonza'90, #1) vs Janelle Monáe - "Champagne Shit" (woods, #6) - Love both of these but Run Your Mouth gets my vote cause I'm really vibing with it a lot right now
DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ - "Anything Lost (Can Be Found Again)" (samo, #1) vs Juliana Gattas - "Un Taxi al Infierno" (Gonza'90, #6) - DJ Sabrina never be missing god damn, Un Taxi is a cool fun track too tho

Big Blood - "1000 Times" (Dinosaur Encyclopedia, #1) vs Cardi B - "Enough (Miami)" (keatonzab, #6) 1000 Times was very pleasant, I saved it to my library! Enough is kinda mid, the beat doesn't do much for me
Shygirl f/ Cosha - "thicc" (lyhom, #1) vs Sierra Ferrell - "Why Haven't You Loved Me Yet" (recordyear, #6) Nice country song but I love Shygirl and thicc is a serve
Addison Rae - "I got it bad" (woods, #1) vs Estoy Bien - "Frente A Frente" (MoD, #6) DAMN! I GOT IT BAD!
Kacey Musgraves - "The Architect" (SabrinaFan, #1) vs KNOWER - "Do Hot Girls Like Chords?" (zippy, #6) both were nice but DHGLC was more memorable
Ryan Hurd - "Midwest Rock & Roll" (CLD, #1) vs Nothing More - "IF IT DOESN'T HURT" (macattack, #6) wasn't super fond of either but Midwest Rock & Roll was catchier
Maddie & Tae - "Heart They Didn't Break" (bigfan101, #1) vs ANOHNI and the Johnsons - "Can't" (willapted33, #6)
The Marías - "Run Your Mouth" (Gonza'90, #1) vs Janelle Monáe - "Champagne Shit" (woods, #6) Champagne Shit is fine but this whole era feels so underwhelming to me, Run Your Mouth moved the needle more for me
DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ - "Anything Lost (Can Be Found Again)" (samo, #1) vs Juliana Gattas - "Un Taxi al Infierno" (Gonza'90, #6) both are great but I'll vote for the artist that isn't sent like clockwork for Madnesses

Big Blood - "1000 Times" (Dinosaur Encyclopedia, #1) vs Cardi B - "Enough (Miami)" (keatonzab, #6) Solid brill building sound in 1000 Times, even though the lyrics can be repetitive after a while. Enough (Miami) brings nothing new from Cardi B.
Shygirl f/ Cosha - "thicc" (lyhom, #1) vs Sierra Ferrell - "Why Haven't You Loved Me Yet" (recordyear, #6) Good immediate club sound in thicc, but it's against my pick, where not only Sierra Ferrell delivers a full formed traditional country song in a short length, but also presents her innocence well.
Addison Rae - "I got it bad" (woods, #1) vs Estoy Bien - "Frente A Frente" (MoD, #6) Feels like I got it bad is designed to appeal to a certain crowd and while very young me may eat up with the sound, nowadays I just feel it's kinda there because that sound is really typical tbh. Frente A Frente is solid emo.
Kacey Musgraves - "The Architect" (SabrinaFan, #1) vs KNOWER - "Do Hot Girls Like Chords?" (zippy, #6) The Architect is one of my favorites from Kacey's new album and Kacey's one of my favorite artists in general so it's hard to vote against. It almost gives "deeper" meaning to the album, reminding me of that part in The Boy and the Heron, even though the bridge is about her lover, and I like the gentle banjo sound in the bridge. "Do Hot Girls Like Chords? is solid though. I like the instrumental more than the vocals.
Ryan Hurd - "Midwest Rock & Roll" (CLD, #1) vs Nothing More - "IF IT DOESN'T HURT" (macattack, #6) Weakest matchup in this set. Wished I like Midwest Rock & Roll because I saw one of my friends hyping it, but it feels Ryan Hurd channeling some qualities that his voice just doesn't have. Also not a fan of those "one note one syllable" delivery. Why does the vocalist from Nothing More remind me of Patrick Stump/Brendon Urie at points? IF IT DOESN'T HURT otherwise just feels decent, slightly saved by breakdown but not much.
Maddie & Tae - "Heart They Didn't Break" (bigfan101, #1) vs ANOHNI and the Johnsons - "Can't" (willapted33, #6) Finally a matchup where I have heard both songs before. Said it before that Heart They Didn't Break is interesting in that Tae sings the lead for the first time, but is deterred by production. Meanwhile, Can't is stunning even though their vocals are definitely an acquired taste.
The Marías - "Run Your Mouth" (Gonza'90, #1) vs Janelle Monáe - "Champagne Shit" (woods, #6) Another matchup where I have heard both before but the matchup is weaker than the previous one. Champagne Shit is mid-tier from the mid parent album. Also the abrupt cutoff at the end because of the supposed loopable album is so awkward.
DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ - "Anything Lost (Can Be Found Again)" (samo, #1) vs Juliana Gattas - "Un Taxi al Infierno" (Gonza'90, #6) Man listening to DSTTD is a diminishing return, proved by Anything Lost (Can Be Found Again). Absolutely love the music from Un Taxi al Infierno which feels like a wake-up call from the previous song, also the lyrics are depressing as "hell". Even though the vocals are not my favorite, it so easily becomes my favorite discovery of this set.

I have heard someone wants to vote for this set but can't due to the technical problems earlier, and there is currently a tie on one of the matchups so I will wait for two more hours. Voting due at noon ET.

Big Blood - "1000 Times" (Dinosaur Encyclopedia, #1) vs Cardi B - "Enough (Miami)" (keatonzab, #6) Enough was actually pretty fun but I actually knew of 1000 Times beforehand and am so glad Big Blood was sent
Shygirl f/ Cosha - "thicc" (lyhom, #1) vs Sierra Ferrell - "Why Haven't You Loved Me Yet" (recordyear, #6) Pretty tricky as both are good for what their genres are but I went with thicc just because I can see myself listening to it more regularly and cause I relate
Addison Rae - "I got it bad" (woods, #1) vs Estoy Bien - "Frente A Frente" (MoD, #6) Frente a Frente is pretty good with the 90s alt rock sound but it doesn't quite get there for me. I got it bad is still really good regardless of if its Addison Rae or not
Kacey Musgraves - "The Architect" (SabrinaFan, #1) vs KNOWER - "Do Hot Girls Like Chords?" (zippy, #6) I really wish I got what people saw in KNOWER
Ryan Hurd - "Midwest Rock & Roll" (CLD, #1) vs Nothing More - "IF IT DOESN'T HURT" (macattack, #6) I mean MR&R wasn't even that great but I'll take it over shitty buttrock
Maddie & Tae - "Heart They Didn't Break" (bigfan101, #1) vs ANOHNI and the Johnsons - "Can't" (willapted33, #6) Not even the best thing ANOHNI put out last year but I love her voice and how she writes a lot, just a lot of empathy and insight.
The Marías - "Run Your Mouth" (Gonza'90, #1) vs Janelle Monáe - "Champagne Shit" (woods, #6)
DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ - "Anything Lost (Can Be Found Again)" (samo, #1) vs Juliana Gattas - "Un Taxi al Infierno" (Gonza'90, #6)

Big Blood - "1000 Times" (Dinosaur Encyclopedia, #1) vs Cardi B - "Enough (Miami)" (keatonzab, #6) I'll mirror reputainbow's comment by saying that "1000 Times" feels pulled straight out of the 60s in the best way. (9/10) "Enough" is definitely the best of Cardi B's recent run of singles (and is a banger), though it's still a step below most of her other singles. (7/10) Shygirl f/ Cosha - "thicc" (lyhom, #1) vs Sierra Ferrell - "Why Haven't You Loved Me Yet" (recordyear, #6)I've now heard two tracks from this Shygirl project (this and "mr useless") and I haven't been remotely impressed. Sorry. (5/10) "Why Haven't You Loved Me Yet" is another blatant throwback to a sound of a previous decade in the best way. (9/10) Addison Rae - "I got it bad" (woods, #1) vs Estoy Bien - "Frente A Frente" (MoD, #6) "I got it bad" is a banger but isn't my favorite from Addison Rae's EP. (7/10) "Frente A Frente" is another banger that I probably like about the same as "I got it bad". (7/10) Kacey Musgraves - "The Architect" (SabrinaFan, #1) vs KNOWER - "Do Hot Girls Like Chords?" (zippy, #6) "The Architect" is quite a beautiful track, which is par for the course for Kacey. (9/10) "Do Hot Girls Like Chords?" is a cool track, but I wish I could hear the vocals a bit easier. I prefer the track that was featured in this past Wintertime Madness. (7/10) Ryan Hurd - "Midwest Rock & Roll" (CLD, #1) vs Nothing More - "IF IT DOESN'T HURT" (macattack, #6)I liked the other songs I've heard from Ryan Hurd well enough, but "Midwest Rock & Roll"? It's kinda rough. (4/10) "IF IT DOESN'T HURT" is... fine, but nothing more than that. (5/10) Maddie & Tae - "Heart They Didn't Break" (bigfan101, #1) vs ANOHNI and the Johnsons - "Can't" (willapted33, #6)I didn't remember that I listened to "Heart They Didn't Break" when it released. It's a good track from a consistently good duo. (7/10) "Can't" is a beautiful track from start to finish, even if I'm not really a fan of her vocals (maybe they take some getting used to). (9/10, best of the set) The Marías - "Run Your Mouth" (Gonza'90, #1) vs Janelle Monáe - "Champagne Shit" (woods, #6) "Run Your Mouth" has one hell of a groove. (9/10) "Champagne Shit" is one of the better tracks from Janelle Monáe's last album, but it's a bit of a disappointment from her (even though the album was still solid). (7/10) DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ - "Anything Lost (Can Be Found Again)" (samo, #1) vs Juliana Gattas - "Un Taxi al Infierno" (Gonza'90, #6)Another DJ Sabrina song, another song that I want to like way more than I do. (6/10) I'm not as impressed by "Un Taxi al Infierno" as some others are, but I can at least say that it's a million times better than the tracks I've heard from her band Miranda!'s last album. (6/10)

I posted this on Discord while things were malfunctioning here on Pulse, but here they are again for transparency (and with my reviews, which I cut from the Discord post). Big Blood - "1000 Times" (Dinosaur Encyclopedia, #1) vs Cardi B - "Enough (Miami)" (keatonzab, #6) Very cute discovery here with "1000 Times". Very much a mysterious group, though, with very little info about them being searchable. Conversely, Cardi B is exceptionally well known, but her song didn't click with me. Shygirl f/ Cosha - "thicc" (lyhom, #1) vs Sierra Ferrell - "Why Haven't You Loved Me Yet" (recordyear, #6) Addison Rae - "I got it bad" (woods, #1) vs Estoy Bien - "Frente A Frente" (MoD, #6)
I don't understand much of "Frente A Frente" (each year my memory of high school Spanish gets worse and worse) but it's a more fun song to listen to than Addison's track. Kacey Musgraves - "The Architect" (SabrinaFan, #1) vs KNOWER - "Do Hot Girls Like Chords?" (zippy, #6)
The Kacey song is simple yet lovely, while the KNOWER song makes a stronger impression out of the gate but has a bit of weirdness that tends to be an acquired taste for me. Very difficult decision, to the point where I was contemplating doing a coin flip, but I'm going to support KNOWER for this one. Ryan Hurd - "Midwest Rock & Roll" (CLD, #1) vs Nothing More - "IF IT DOESN'T HURT" (macattack, #6)
Not sure why a song called "Midwest Rock & Roll" sounds exceptionally Southern Country, but that's what Ryan Hurd's song sounds like. I actually am not a big Nothing More fan, even though they have made a pair of truly seminal songs in "Jenny" and "Go To War". This one, IMO, comes close to matching those two songs' astronomical heights, if not outright reach them, so I decided to bring them into Madness as my alternative metal pick for the tournament. "If it doesn't hurt at all, then it doesn't mean a thing" is a line that's going to stick with me for a while. Maddie & Tae - "Heart They Didn't Break" (bigfan101, #1) vs ANOHNI and the Johnsons - "Can't" (willapted33, #6)I'm actually not familiar with Maddie & Tae, they made a pleasant first impression here. AHOHNI and the Johnsons made a more striking impression, however, and the uniquely soulful vocals were a great draw. The Marías - "Run Your Mouth" (Gonza'90, #1) vs Janelle Monáe - "Champagne Shit" (woods, #6) The Marias went in hard with this track. It's a personal year-end top 50 contender for me. Just genuine excellence all around, and I think it has a shot at making me vote against one or two of my own picks down the line. Janelle's track is okay. DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ - "Anything Lost (Can Be Found Again)" (samo, #1) vs Juliana Gattas - "Un Taxi al Infierno" (Gonza'90, #6)I feel like I've heard the same Sabrina song 15 times over at this point, and it doesn't help that they all tend to be way overlong. Juliana's track sounds more unique and interesting even though it treads some of the same sonic ground.

Big Blood - "1000 Times" (Dinosaur Encyclopedia, #1) vs Cardi B - "Enough (Miami)" (keatonzab, #6) "1000 times" is a great discovery! "enough (miami)" is prob the most lively cardi b song i've heard in ages, but it doesn't stick out to me outside of that :(
Shygirl f/ Cosha - "thicc" (lyhom, #1) vs Sierra Ferrell - "Why Haven't You Loved Me Yet" (recordyear, #6) shygirl remains to not really be my thing. "why haven't you loved me yet" meanwhile was a really lovely discovery. love the twangy guitar thing, i wish spongebob was real
Addison Rae - "I got it bad" (woods, #1) vs Estoy Bien - "Frente A Frente" (MoD, #6) i see why people have been hyping up addison rae the way they have-- this isn't a bad song at all, but i feel like theres many people who have much more inspired takes on the sound she goes for. "frente a frente" meanwhile is right up my alley!!! need to remember to check out "apoyo emocional" at some point since every other song i've heard off it really impresses me.
Kacey Musgraves - "The Architect" (SabrinaFan, #1) vs KNOWER - "Do Hot Girls Like Chords?" (zippy, #6) haha knower go brrrrrrr
Ryan Hurd - "Midwest Rock & Roll" (CLD, #1) vs Nothing More - "IF IT DOESN'T HURT" (macattack, #6) "midwest rock & roll" BAITED me!!!! i was expecting some cap'n jazz-infused rockabilly, not uber-polished country radio pop with the most egregious autotune this side of the missisippi 😡😡😡. anyways, "if it doesn't hurt" sounds like the inside of a hot topic, but the production on the verses is relatively pretty.
Maddie & Tae - "Heart They Didn't Break" (bigfan101, #1) vs ANOHNI and the Johnsons - "Can't" (willapted33, #6) "can't" is a really beautiful track with some great instrumentation and anohni's vocals shine. and the outro... *chefs kiss*. "heart they didn't break" kind of went in one ear, then out the other unfortunately. didn't really do much for me
The Marías - "Run Your Mouth" (Gonza'90, #1) vs Janelle Monáe - "Champagne Shit" (woods, #6) the marías' previous work never really did it for me, but this new song from them is really solid!! very impressed with this song. monáe sounds like they're having fun on "champagne shit" but i can't help but think that the song as a whole is incredibly dated sounding. this sounds like it belongs in 2015 lmfao.
DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ - "Anything Lost (Can Be Found Again)" (samo, #1) vs Juliana Gattas - "Un Taxi al Infierno" (Gonza'90, #6) i swear at this point i've listened to half of dj sabrina's discography and my thoughts on this song aren't too dissimilar from what i think of her other songs. they're very good, but in my opinion, overstay their welcome and don't rly justify their length. "un taxi al infierno" meanwhile was a really solid discovery! the production in particular is a high point for me.

Cosmorat - "Backseat Baby" (deca, #1) vs Judas Priest - "Invincible Shield" (Dinosaur Encyclopedia, #6) Are those the Hollaback Girl drums?
Reneé Rapp - "Someone Gets Hurt" (keatonzab, #1) vs Kirin J Callinan - "Crazier Idea" (dremolus, #6) Close race... because sadly neither are super great to me. The production of Crazier Idea definitely stands out more, but for once I'm gonna pay more attention to lyrics. Reneé Rapp put on a pretty entertaining performance.
Twenty One Pilots - "Overcompensate" (macattack, #1) vs Hannah Jadagu - "Say It Now" (Zach, #6) Lowkey I hate the line "Welcome back to Trench." I know there are lore reasons it can make sense, but lore is secondary to music AND damn that sounds like an unnecessarily desperate bid to fans. Luckily the rest of the song is a true banger.
MGMT - "Nothing Changes" (Mayman, #1) vs Matt Schuster - "Thought You Were" (bigfan101, #6) I like to be the one who often calls MGMT overrated, but I have to say those horns really won me over. Nice lyrics on Thought You Were, though.
Annalisa - "Sinceramente" (Leo, #1) vs The 8-Bit Big Band f/ Alan H. Green - "Pollyanna" (Khan, #6) Ooh you sneaky devil almost making me vote against myself. Sinceramente is really good, but ultimately I think the Italians chose right when they voted La noia to go onto the main show. THAT one would've made me vote against myself. I've heard a lot of covers of Pollyanna throughout my life, and this one by the always impressive 8-Bit Big Band is the only male one I know to reach the quality of the original.
Quadeca f/ Kevin Abstract - "TEXAS BLUE" (willapted33, #1) vs Taryn - "Love Letters" (jtd, #6) Toughest pair of the round for sure. Texas Blue with the gorgeous folksy interplay between the piano and guitar while Love Letters uses those short trap riffs to really smash at the end of lines. I think I've gotta go Taryn for making me feel cooler by association, but I really don't mind if Texas Blue moves on.
Willi Carlisle - "Critterland" (wheatsquares33, #1) vs Addison Rae f/ Charli XCX - "2 die 4" (rnb, #6) I like the Addison Rae song from last round better tbh, but sadly the talk-singing cadence of Critterland got tiring kinda quickly.

Cosmorat - "Backseat Baby" (deca, #1) vs Judas Priest - "Invincible Shield" (Dinosaur Encyclopedia, #6)
I wasn't sure how to feel about "Backseat Baby" at first; it has some pretty abrasive parts but I liked it overall. "Invincible Shield" is the second song I've heard from Judas Priest after "Panic Attack" from 2023 RYM. I prefer the latter, but this is still pretty solid.
Reneé Rapp - "Someone Gets Hurt" (keatonzab, #1) vs Kirin J Callinan - "Crazier Idea" (dremolus, #6)
I still haven't seen the newest Mean Girls movie. I'm just not a huge fan of musicals in general either, so that's part of the reason why, even though I adore the original. But anyways, "Someone Gets Hurt" probably would make more sense with the context of the film. It's a decent song on its own, but nothing more. "Crazier Idea" is pretty cool. It sounds like it could've been a lost hit from the 1980s, and not in the derivate synthpop kind of the way that's been super popular now.
Twenty One Pilots - "Overcompensate" (macattack, #1) vs Hannah Jadagu - "Say It Now" (Zach, #6)
"Overcompensate" is Twenty One Pilots' best song in quite in a while. I think what's fully preventing me from loving this is Tyler's rapping, but the intro is really cool and definitely my favorite part. "Say It Now" is pretty nice itself, and I feel like it's more consistently good all the way through to get my vote. This is a pretty close matchup for me, so I went with my gut.
MGMT - "Nothing Changes" (Mayman, #1) vs Matt Schuster - "Thought You Were" (bigfan101, #6)
Regarding MGMT's new songs, "Mother Nature" grew on me and "Bubblegum Dog" is pretty nice. "Nothing Changes" falls in between both of them in terms of my preference. It's quite nice. Definitely picks up at the end, especially with the trumpet coming in. "Thought You Were" doesn't really interest me.
Annalisa - "Sinceramente" (Leo, #1) vs The 8-Bit Big Band f/ Alan H. Green - "Pollyanna" (Khan, #6)
"Sinceramente" is a bop I've known after one of my friends recommended it to me. My favorite part is definitely when everything comes together at the chorus. The bridge is really good too. I am not aware of the original version of "Pollyanna", but I like this song's jazzy sound.
Quadeca f/ Kevin Abstract - "TEXAS BLUE" (willapted33, #1) vs Taryn - "Love Letters" (jtd, #6)
"TEXAS BLUE" sounds like something that might need to grow on me, but for now I'll say I enjoyed my listen of this. I haven't been completely sold on Quadeca yet. "Love Letters" clicked with me *just* a little bit more.
Willi Carlisle - "Critterland" (wheatsquares33, #1) vs Addison Rae f/ Charli XCX - "2 die 4" (rnb, #6)
The album cover for 'Critterland' has caught my attention ever since I first saw it. "Critterland" is a really nice discovery that I didn't expect to enjoy as much as I actually do. I love all the instruments in the production. "2 die 4" is... not as good as the Tove Lo song of the same name, nor is it as good as "I got it bad". Addison Rae and Charli XCX sound better together on the "Von dutch" remix.

Cosmorat - "Backseat Baby" (deca, #1) vs Judas Priest - "Invincible Shield" (Dinosaur Encyclopedia, #6) Backseat Baby's production was nail on the chalkboard. Judas Priest's song was a little too heavy for my liking, but still sounded better.
Reneé Rapp - "Someone Gets Hurt" (keatonzab, #1) vs Kirin J Callinan - "Crazier Idea" (dremolus, #6)

Annalisa - "Sinceramente" (Leo, #1) vs The 8-Bit Big Band f/ Alan H. Green - "Pollyanna" (Khan, #6) Both are not bad, but Sinceramente was a little more fun.
Quadeca f/ Kevin Abstract - "TEXAS BLUE" (willapted33, #1) vs Taryn - "Love Letters" (jtd, #6)
Willi Carlisle - "Critterland" (wheatsquares33, #1) vs Addison Rae f/ Charli XCX - "2 die 4" (rnb, #6) Difficult choice, both songs are better than a good chunk of the rest of the list lol.
