We're not done with Franti after ranking him for 2023 AAA this era! Second single from Big Big Love and expected to be top 50 on AAA by the end of the week. This is as bad as his other output. It would be a bit better... if not for that post-chorus drop.

As someone who moderately defended "I Got You" in 2020, how has this duo not been relegated to Adult Contemporary radio by now? He'd be perfect for the stereotype of the format being so generic and boring.

I only liked the simple guitar sounds in the first verse. Reminded me of an Echosmith song. Every sound after that was a major tune out for me.

Top 50 on AAA: 61 50 MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD Hands Up To The Sky 116 82 34 0.069 As someone who moderately defended "I Got You" in 2020, how has this duo not been relegated to Adult Contemporary radio by now? Two words: Prior hits. Prior to "I Got You", Franti has had multiple hits in the past, whether it's his biggest crossover "Say Hey (I Love You)", or "The Sound of Sunshine". Franti also has a few songs that still get airplay even before "Say Hey", particularly from the Yell Fire! era, so he and his band already had established themselves on the format somewhat. These older songs were also less poppy than the recent output (speaking generally) he has made post "Sound of Sunshine", so that helped too. Also, at AC (and the general public), he's mostly known for "Say Hey", even with the other charters he has had at HAC, as compared to acts such as Train and Jason Mraz who have multiple hits on both formats. So unfortunately, we're stuck having to deal with this duo, even if their chart successes have been sporadic post "Sound of Sunshine"; aside from the occasional "I'm Alive"s and "I Got You"s, they usually peak within the lower regions on the chart, and also fare better on the indicator side of the panel as the NPR stations usually doesn't touch them.
