So I was asked to share my data I've put together regarding songwriters who have written #1's. As of me posting this, the data includes all the #1 hits from Billboard's "Hot Country Songs (1944-2012)" then following "Country Airplay" when they split the chart. I will do a separate list for the "new" Hot Country Songs and Mediabase. Also as of this writing I need a list of Mediabase only #1's. Maybe a master list combining all 3 totals if I get ambitious enough.

Let me know if you'd rather have them sorted by Most #1's. This is in Chronological order atm.

Harlan Howard and Hank Cochran have written so many good songs.
Very surprised Loretta Lynn only has 4 and I guess many of her no.1 hits that I mistakenly assumed that she wrote herself.
Like Woman of the World (Leave My World Alone),One's on the Way,etc because these songs are so Loretta.
And Tammy Wynette has 5!!!!
The funniest fact coming from this list may be Tammy Wynette has written more no.1 hits for herself than Loretta Lynn!!!
I think many people would find it surprised.
Merle has 28!

Up until relatively recently Merle had the most. In 2018 Ashley Gorley surpassed him and has almost doubled since. One more and he'll have doubled what Merle did. He's been on fire for the past decade.
Merle had the most from 1984-2018.

If I’m not mistaken Ashley Gorley’s first #1 as a writer was Trace Adkins 3rd and so far last solo #1 “You’re Gonna Miss This”.

Oh wow, I'm surprised Dean Dillon only has 11, since it felt like he wrote almost all of George Strait's hits! Then again, I guess it's not counting any of George's hits that peaked at like #2 on Billboard and #1 on Mediabase or something like that. Plus I guess maybe he wrote several album tracks for George that made it feel like his contributions to the #1 total should be a higher percentage than they are.
