www.avengedsevenfold.com/cityofevil/Unsure if this is the first single or not, but there's a download for anyone who may be interested (i.e., my closer friends on here). Their album City of Evil comes out June 7. From the production, the album cover, the fluttery dual-lead guitar solo in the middle, and the fact that M.'s voice is self-harmonized throughout, with little growl to it at all, I'm nervous that their scope has become a little too grandiose for my liking. However, after 3 listens, I'm getting used to it all. We'll see, ultimately. Overall, this song isn't any more radio friendly than anything off the last record. Apparently, they're on Warner Bros. now, or at least distributed by them, so perhaps they can get a song onto the bottom half of the Active Rock chart later this year.

Did anyone ever hear that "Bat Country" song? ;) This is going to be their second single. This is as good a choice as any. This was the first teaser song on their website two months before City of Evil came out. Thus, it had a leg up on my personal chart. I would've expected this, an official "Burn It Down" release, or "Blinded in Chains." This will have to be edited for length, though, as would anything Warner Bros. decides to release. Below is information on its video. www.mtv.com/news/articles/1511114/20051007/avenged_sevenfold.jhtml?headlines=true

This is supposed to be their brand new single as stated by Shadows on MTV news. I am crazy about this band, man! I have to say though it is not as catchy as "Bat Country", though, and they are not the only ones that don't believe it won't make the TRL.

I think this is a lot more catchy than Bat Country, it doesn't drammatically change throughout it either. I like it.

I think this is just as good as "Bat Country". Good video too.

I saw this video on Fuse a few days ago, and this band just keeps impressing the hell out of me more and more. I don't think this is as catchy as Bat Country, but still a damn good song that should go at least Top 15 on Alternative and Active Rock.

I saw its video a handful of times at my girlfriend's house this week (she has digital cable, whereas I don't, and I only have a dial-up connection), so I was overjoyed to catch it several times.
(White guys with grills (or grills in general, for that matter) is a tacky, stupid look, and I cannot wait for this obnoxious fad to be over.)
Anyway, enjoyed the video otherwise, and noted the edit points: all of the intro up until the miniature solo before M's introductory scream; half of the cool-off/buildup section after the second chorus, where the guitars just sustain and The Rev shows off a little bit on the drums; and the final key-shifted chorus.
On the way home last night, my local Rock station played it; my first time hearing it on radio, and though I didn't catch it from the start, it was the full 5:40-ish version. :)
This will be the next #1 on my personal chart, eventually kicking out "Bat Country." (Though, it already spent a week at #1 last year, a few weeks before "Bat Country" took over and has racked up a whopping 28+ weeks as my favorite song.)

This is much better than Bat Country but it sounds too much like something one of the numerous euro-melodic-metal bands might do. Maybe I'll warm up to these guys with their next album.

I'm really getting hooked on Avenged Sevenfold. I used to think they were too weird and old-school metal for me, but lately I've been enjoying City Of Evil a whole lot, especially this song in particular. Watched the video not too long ago, and I gotta say one thing about the band: I like their style.

This song is one of the ringers on my roommate's cell phone, and it sometimes wakes me up in the morning.
I really enjoy this song MUCH more than I did "Bat Country". I guess this would be their "ballad" or "slow-tempo" song, if they had slow tempo songs. At least it could work as a slow tempo as well (maybe I am just smoking one too many...).

Their slow tempo song is going to be "Seize The Day", which would be a perfect fit for single #3 from City Of Evil.
This song is now at #53 and is quickly approaching the top 50. It didn't stand out immediately as being one of the best on the album, and I was hoping for "Burn It Down" to be the followup to "Bat Country", but I was just watching the video, and as it occurs with a lot of songs, that's when it all clicked. It should manage just fine.
If I could pick a rock star that I could look exactly like, it'd be M., easily.

At least it could work as a slow tempo as well (maybe I am just smoking one too many...). ??? I don't understand this comment at all. They do have slow-tempo songs and (power-)ballads. This clearly isn't one of them. The likely third single, "Seize the Day," as Steve mentioned, is. If I could pick a rock star that I could look exactly like, it'd be M., easily. Yeah, lose the grille, some of the muscle and reappropriate the tattoos for my personal tastes, and I agree 100%. Those guys are such badasses. (Although, I don't always agree with their lifestyle choices or political opinions.)

What I was trying to say that this song (at least the chorus) would fit well as a slower-paced song, if they cut the tempo in half (so to speak) and made it a ballad. Much like "No Way Back" (FF), this song could also fit as a ballad if it had completely different texture.
It's not a big deal, but I was trying to make that point. To me, at least, it has a tad more sentimental value than "Bat Country", not that A7X are that kind of band.

Uh-oh. That could end my relationship with M. and the boys in a mere matter of seconds.

(Although, I don't always agree with their lifestyle choices or political opinions.) ? Care to elaborate? Yeah, Synyster is a gun enthusiast and M. would be if he weren't so hot-tempered, their penchant for groupies and drugs (pot, shrooms, cocaine, & LSD is the extent of it, to my knowledge) has been publicized, which I'd feel better about if it never came up in articles, and politically, they come in from the right-wing side of the spectrum, though nothing specifically has rubbed me the wrong way yet. It's kinda like the drugs: the less I know, the better. But I know too much about their drug habits already. (But they'll never perform under the influence, at least, and M. can't drink alcohol on tour because it wrecks his singing voice.)
