"My Boo" has a big debut, although I don't know how long it will stay there-- I still need a cleaner version of the song. Brandy notches up her second #1 for the year. Ashanti falls off and enters the year-end chart at a dismal #49. Kelly Clarkson is trying to become the biggest non-R&B/hip-hop single on my chart ever. Anita Baker is showing some signs of burn out, but is sure to have more singles, as is Jill Scott. But Alicia Keyes is assured to be the Artist of the Year now b/c of the Usher collabo and Diray's lengthy 15-week stay in the top 20 (plus of course "If I Ain't Got You").

"Disappear" becomes only the second song in JT40 history to fall out of the #1 spot and then regain it. Back in June 2000, "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack dropped out of the top spot for 2 weeks to let "Heaven To Earth" by Michael English have a turn, then regained the #1 spot for a 4th and final week. It was an extremely tight race this week, as "Majesty" is only a very few "points" behind Bebo. I heard "Disappear" one more time right before I made the chart, and it put Bebo over the top for this week. :)

Linkin Park becomes the 3rd artist to have two #1 songs this year. The first two charttoppers of the year were by Outkast. Britney Spears had her second #1 in 2004 just 2 weeks ago with “Everytime”, and now LP’s “Breaking the Habit” succeeds “Numb” as their 2nd #1 this year, and the fourth in their history, which started with their mammoth “In the End”. It is also the 4th straight week with a different #1 since Hoobastank’s “The Reason” spent 6 weeks at the top. Kevin Lyttle’s “Turn Me On” was the other.

The hottest songs on the chart are Nelly’s “My Place”, which made a stunning debut last week at #56, the highest debut for the year, before rising 15 spots this week, and Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway”, which was the fastest riser this week, zooming up 28 to #52. “Blue” by A Perfect Circle is the highest debut this week at #69. The highest debut 2 weeks ago, Saliva’s “Survival of the Sickest” at #76, only rose 3 notches this week to #58. Some strong moves nearer the top of the chart were made by Ryan Cabrera (“On the Way Down”), Black Eyed Peas (“Let’s Get It Started”), Avril Lavigne (“My Happy Ending”) and Maroon 5 with “She Will Be Loved”, up from #10 last week to #5 this week.

Usher has now spent 12 weeks on the chart with 3 songs in the Top 20. One of his songs, “Confessions Pt. 2", has spent the last 6 weeks and all but one of the past 10 weeks at #12, but that one exceptional week was at #10, which qualified it as a Top 10 song, simultaneously with his other songs “Yeah” and “Burn”. Furthermore, Usher is featured in a version of another song in the Top 30 as part of a duet with Alicia Keys in “If I Ain’t Got You”, which shared the Top 20 with the other Usher songs for 10 weeks. Lastly “Yeah” is high on a lot of longevity lists giving it a chance for the top song of the year. At this point, “My Immortal” by Evanescence, in the Top 40 all year long, and “The Reason” by Hoobastank, still in the Top 10, appear to be its strongest competition, although I wouldn’t count out “Meant to Live” by Switchfoot, which has been around for most of 2 years, and refuses to die. I believe I’m close to wrapping up my mid-year chart, which I hope to present soon.
