It's screeching tires, but yeah. I actually don't mind so much, because it fits the scene of the video. It took me by surprise when I first saw it on MTV, but it shouldn't have. I hate to gush about them so much but, damn, that video is so badass. gotta love those slutty old ladies. Yeah, that and the lady with the bigger-than normal mouth. That dude with the eyes scares me.

As I was driving back to Orlando from South Florida last Sunday, this song came on WPBZ. Its just the perfect song to just totally rock out to and make the other drivers think you're a mental patient while going north on the Turnpike. Yeah, I know this is a pointless post, but it was a fun experience witnessing all of those "WTF?" expressions on their faces

But then again, I don't have my license yet.

I LOVE this song. It's been in my head for hours. Heh, same thing's happening to me.
This would be a guilty pleasure if not for Hysteria (to an extent), Scars (before it had any kind of Pop success), The Hand That Feeds, and B.Y.O.B. all having had successful runs on my chart so far this year.
I find it interesting that this is about to make the Top 20 on Alt while sitting just outside the Top 10 on Active.[/font]

What the hell is this s**t and how is it doing so well in 2005? This is the kind of screaming noise I'd expect to do well in like 2002 when a bunch of crappy blue collar bands dominated the format, but it stands out like a sore thumb now. I HATE it.

Right, because A7X play the exact kind of rote, talentless, blue collar new-metal as the bands you speak of. This is the band that, for me at least, when I discovered them exactly 2 years ago, gave metal a fresh kick in the ass and showed me all the other possibilities modern metal music still had to offer at the time (and with their breakout success, still does offer, from a mainstream perspective.)

Hmm. I certainly think that this is a refreshing, cool new song from a genre I wouldn't usually listen to (metal, or the like).

They don't do that generic screaming stuff. Definately one of the best metal bands w/ new stuff out this year, alongside System.

Yeah, this is probably one of the catchiest metal songs I've ever heard. Whether or not it should be classified as alt-metal like Tool, System of a Down, and the like seems up to the individual (I personally haven't heard enough of them to say one way or the other). But yeah, to pigeonhole them in the same subgenre as Puddle of Mudd and Shinedown and the like is definitely inaccurate.

I always thought they were like a screamo type band like Atreyu or Eighteen Visions, and never really thought of them as a nu-metal band, but then again this is the only song I've heard from them, so maybe I'm wrong.

Noone classified them as neo-grunge , but some of us think they're a nu-metal band , that would put them in the same subgenre as Korn and Coal Chamber etc.

They are a screamo type metalcore band like Atreyu and Eighteen Visions, or at least they were. Feeling the style was becoming way too saturated, but also due to M.'s vocal surgery which made it physically impossible for him to do throat-shredding screams anymore, they've left the screaming behind. And anyone who thinks A7X are new-metal is out of their element in defining the offshoots and subgenres of metal and clearly doesn't understand any of them.

Since when has Avenged Sevenfold been appealing to the TRL crowd? This was like video #8 or #7 or something earlier today!

My same reaction! I'm amazed the video was shown on TRL...but even more amazed that they're existence is known there!

This is now in the Top 10 at Alt...wonder how high it'll go. I don't think it will get any higher than #5, but I doubt anybody expected this band to reach the Top 10, let alone even in the Top 25. This is one song that just broke out of nowhere...

Since when has Avenged Sevenfold been appealing to the TRL crowd? This was like video #8 or #7 or something earlier today! Jesus f***ing Christ. Serenity now! Probably since Good Charlotte "presented" the entire band on TRL last week on MTV's Spankin' New Music "Now & Next" deal. Cuz those TRL kids, they don't care what the rock sounds like, as long as it's made by 5 hot guys with tattoos and eyeliner. Time to turn off some of the publicity machine, guys. Let's just say I've been stunned and amazed by their reception as is evident from my introductory post: Oh yeah, and Eighteen Visions is on Epic now, so expect them to blow up next year, for better or worse.

They spent two weeks at number one on my personal top 40! I'm not sure why I picked up this song, however, I made it an instant hit on my charts as soon as I saw it on MTV2, now all I need is the radio edit. It's way too long for my countdown show. Otherwise I enjoy the album version just as much especially the intro.

I just downloaded this song today and it's awesome. I can't believe I've been sleeping on it. It hasn't been on the radio in my parts, and I guess I had held off on downloading this because I figured it wouldn't be my thing.

Ok I finally bought "City Of Evil" and I have to say it is hands down the best hard rock/metal cd of the year. They are coming to Maine in the end of January and I can't wait. Now I have to pick up there first two cd's.

Uhh, why is this being played on TRL? It better not go for adds on Pop now, or I'll be pissed.

I had already pegged it as the most unlikely TRL hit ever, and now it goes #1. I still can't see it going for Pop adds... but who knows?
I haven't replied in this topic since my first listen to the song (when I said I didn't like it), and now it's going to be #6 or so on my personal chart tomorrow.
