The chart year 2004 is now in the history books!Β This year was a strange one for my chart year in that there were a number of weeks where songs made large drops but then climbed back up later, basically because of some trips I took and the lack of music I listened to for a while.
In the year 2004, pop hits continued to make some big impacts on the chart, but also Christian music made strides on the chart.Β Big hits this year came from chart veterans like Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Usher, Nelly, & Jessica Simpson.Β Plus, new artists like Maroon 5 and Switchfoot returned my chart to some of the pop/rock roots of earlier times.
Just to preface this, my top songs are ranked by an inverse point system, with my #1 song getting 5 bonus points.Β Also, songs receive bonus points every 10 weeks they spend on the chart.Β When I rank the songs, this is the hierarchy I use:
1) Total points 2) Peak Position 3) Total Weeks on the chart in 2004
Before we get into the top 100 of 2004, here are positions 105-101:
105. Usher - Confessions (pt. 2) 104. ZOEGirl - You Get Me 103. Celine Dion - You & I 102. FM Static - Crazy Mary 101. Simple Plan - Perfect
For my guessing game, I'll give a clue to the song and you can guess what it is.Β If it is a Christian-radio only song, I will put "CS" before the clue and make the clue a little easier for people to guess.
Now, let's get on with the guessing game!
100. Starting off the countdown is a big pop hit from the summer of 2004.Β In fact, this song was probably one you heard from morning to night. Christina Milian - Dip It Low (friday)
99. A rock song that was a very slow climber on the pop chart and peaked in the mid-teens.Β This was the highest charting song on pop radio for this band. Fuel - Falls On Me (Mega)
98. CS:Β This song is from the artist's second album.Β It was an official mainstream single in the UK but only made N&A on the Christian pop charts in the US.Β The artist crossed over to mainstream pop last year. Stacie Orrico - I Could Be The One (Jeffster)
97. I sort of can relate to this song.Β It's a hit by a "punk" band that describes some of the hard times young adults can have. Simple Plan - Welcome To My Life (Mega)
96. CS:Β If you went swimming in this, you would see happy, sad, and angry ones. Kutless - Sea Of Faces (Mega)
95. CS:Β This break-out Christian music star in 2004 had this mega-hit on Christian pop & AC radio.Β The title of the song is something that a chocoholic might say in a chocolate candy factory. Matthew West - More (Mega)
94. CS:Β This band from Canada has already won a Juno award for best new Christian band.Β This hit was barely a top 20 hit on Christian pop radio.Β The band's name is a compound word of the lights in the sky and the area you play baseball on. Starfield - Filled With Your Glory (Mega)
93. Talk about opposites attracting?Β Take an RHY/pop star and team him up with a... country star?!?! Nelly f/ Tim McGraw - Over & Over (Mega)
92.Β The video for this song was in black and white and looked like it took place in some European garden. Evanescence - My Immortal (friday)
91. This band decided to give one last breath to a rock sound that scored the band members many hits in the past.Β Not quite the same success, but still a top 10 hit on rock radio. Alter Bridge - Open Your Eyes (Mega)

Nice work Ethan and Jeff! Jeff picked up the right answer to the Stacie Orrico song - I Promise never made my chart.
A couple of clues still left up there.
100) The second line of my clue is really the kicker here. It references the artist's previous pop hit.
92) This is a song that I felt was overrated for this band, especially after their debut smash hit in 2003.

100) Christina Milian - Dip It Low 92) Evanescence - My Immortal And those are them! :) Here are the next 10 hits. 90) CS:Β This was the followup hit for this worship band's top 5 hit on Christian AC radio.Β The band's name has the name of one of the members. David Crowder Band - Open Skies (Mega) 89) CS:Β Brand new Christian rock band that is still on the Christian rock chart with this debut hit.Β The name of the band may remind some of a huge Peoplebase hit. Mute Math - Control (Mega) 88) 1/3 of a trio we will see later on the countdown.Β This song featured another rapper from SE Texas. Beyonce f/ Lil' Flip - Naughty Girl (Mega) 87) Back to back hits for this R&B singer.Β It's the slower of the two songs. Beyonce - Me, Myself, & I (EvanJ) 86) A song that first hit in late 2003.Β It was last "big" hit for this up to then singer/songwriter fave on pop radio. Michelle Branch - Breathe (friday) 85) Independent band that scored this top 30 hit on Hot AC radio.Β Think French. Avion - Seven Days Without You (Mega) 84) Chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry? Kelis - Milkshake (Mega) 83) This singer was not ready to wave one of these after a huge hit from her first album.Β She returned with this #1 AC smash. Dido - White Flag (Mega & friday) 82) A song that peaked in early December 2003.Β Some were surprised to see that this song actually made the top 15 on AC radio. 3 Doors Down - Here Without You (Mega) 81) This singer probably felt like the title of this song when it came out.Β Despite her previous success and the promising start for this return hit, radio just didn't give this song a chance or any of the followups. Nelly Furtado - Powerless (Say What You Want) (Mega)

I guess I shouldn't edit my posts. I think we both got #83 at the same time.

82. Kelly Clarkson- "Breakaway" 81. Sarah McLachlan- "Fallen" No sorry Ethan, both of those are incorrect. (82) peaked in early December 2003. 82) The group that sings this song got their name from living in a dormitory. 81) This song had a weird run on Hot AC. On its second week on the chart, it rocketed 30-20*. The song ended up peaking at #20.

82. 3 Doors Down- "Here Without You" (I misread your clue the first time and thought it said 'December 2004', which is why my guess didn't fit the clue.) 81. Nelly Furtado- "Powerless" (?)

All but #90 have been guessed and guessed correctly. Here is an additional clue for #90.
90) The title of the song could be associated with sunny skies.

90. David Crowder Band- "Open Skies" Nice work Ethan! :) 80) A holdover from 2003.Β It was the third release off of this band's junior album.Β The song had tremendous longevity on the Hot AC chart. matchbox twnety - Bright Lights (Mega) 79) This was an AC exclusive hit by a Latin singer who brought a number of hits on pop radio in the late 80s and 90s, including a hit still done at many weddings today. Gloria Estefan - I Wish You (Mega) 78) With this song, the band followed the title's advice (unfortunately) - it was their only pop-released single not to go top 10. Linkin Park - Breaking The Habit (Mega) 77) In part of the video for this urban hit, one of the singers is in a car with a woman and the entire car gets all fogged up. G Unit f/ Joe - Wanna Get To Know You (Mega) 76) CS:Β I'm not sure where the title of this song was inspired.Β It could be a description of the band's native land in the UK or a cry heard in many western US states. Delirious? - Rain Down (Mega) 75) Another holdover from 2003.Β It hit #1 on my chart in October 2003 but remained on long enough to score points in 2003.Β It is the followup to the artist's debut mainstream song in early 2003. Stacie Orrico - (There's Gotta Be) More To Life (Mega) 74) Theme song to a show that is airing a new season in toward the end of this month. Nick Lachey - This I Swear (mst3k) 73) CS:Β Relatively unknown Christian artist who had two minor Christian rock hits this year.Β This hit went top 20 on Christian CHR.Β The title of the song is the same as a huge 80s hit for a band with rhyming words in their names. Ian Eskelin - Shout (Mega) 72) 2003 was a year of many remakes, and 2004 had a few too.Β This remake was of a #2 smash hit of the early 90s by an R&B star of the time. Britney Spears - My Prerogative (friday) 71) CS:Β This Christian artist made an attempt to crossover to mainstream Hot AC with another hit earlier this year.Β This song, though, was his only hit on Christian rock radio and made the top 25 for the year. Jeremy Camp - Stay (Mega) Best of luck! :)

Jeremy Camp- "Stay" All of those are correct except #72. Toby Lightman's Real Love never made my chart. #72 is a song by an artist who recently announced plans for a brand new album in 2005, surprising even hardcore fans.

74. Ashlee Simpson - Autobiography No sorry that's not it. But just take the clues... hold on tight and we'll get there... I promise! :) I know #73 will be tough for people, so I'll add some more help. The name of the 80s band I referenced in the clue has three words to their name. 1st word: Something you see when people cry. 2nd word: Homonym for a number. 3rd word: Think phobia. Now, think of one of their most popular hits and then look at my current chart for the song with the same title.

Wow, looks like I made some tough clues. Let me try to give some easier ones.
79) Think of an urban hit by R. Kelly earlier this century and then add a word to the title.
77) It's a reason why you would take another person you just met out for coffee or maybe dinner.
76) The winters in the UK are very dismal, much like the US Pacific NW. You would often see the title of this song happening in the UK.
72) The song is a new hit found on a greatest hits album.

74) Nick Lachey - This I Swear You got the rebound and scored a basket! OK, time for some more easier clues. 77) I wanna know why this song is giving people so much trouble. It's by a group with a featured artist. 76) The band's name is a feeling you may have after spending a day in the desert without water. The name also has punctuation in it.
