Just got the new Matchbox Twenty EP. The new song "Suffer Me" doesn't really grab me. The live version of Push is a grand slam, IMO. Rob Thomas really nails the vocals. It sounds so like the CD. Not a big fan of the song All I Need, but I like it better than the original. The jazzy version of Crutch is a neat twist. It's interesting to hear the acoustic version of Disease. Just RT and his guitar. A softer, stripped down version of If You're Gone is good. It is simply a beautiful song. What's your opinion?

I bought it for my wife to give me, but can't open it until then. I look forward to it though.

She couldn't buy it herself? ;) Bought it on the day it was released and I was looking forward to hearing Suffer Me. I have to agree with NORTHCOAST though, it didn't really stood out for me. Then again, I've only heard the song twice so maybe it'll grow on me. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that this song was made while they were recording Mad Season (my least favorite MBT album). Not so sure about Crutch because it's sooo different from the original version. It's cool to hear it in a sort of jazzy atmosphere though. I like the horns/trumpets. It would have been great if they put more live songs from MTYTYA in there. All I Need is brilliant. Disease is good but I already have that in my mp3 collection. ;) If You're Gone still sounds beautiful even though it's stripped down. This is one of the highlights on their tour - just Rob and Kyle. Pretty. The video footage is great too. Shows you how good they are as a live band. Rob sings with SO much passion.

I'm a fan of mb20, but I didn't buy it. Didn't seem worth it to me. Same with 3 Doors Down's EP.

This was published in the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Thought it was interesting that Rob got outvoted. I would have voted for Bed of Lies too, LOL! Suffer Me just doesn't do it for me.
Song spotlight
Matchbox Twenty's new "EP" (Atlantic) features five live tracks plus "Suffer Me," an outtake from sessions for the group's triple-platinum 2000 sophomore album "Mad Season." But frontman Rob Thomas said if he'd had his way, "Suffer Me" would have made it onto that album.
"That was one of the first songs I wrote for 'Mad Season,' and to me it was our flagship song. It was gonna be the one," Thomas says. "To be honest, there was a song called 'Bed of Lies' on the album, and I wanted 'Suffer Me' instead. But I got outvoted. So now this is like Rob's revenge."

Well, I'm glad Rob was outvoted. "Bed of Lies" is not only my favorite MB20 song, but probably would finish inside my 50 favorite songs of all time, despite not even being a single.

I got the EP and I really have enjoyed it so far. If any of you guys have the MB20 DVD of 'VH1 Storytellers,' then you have heard/seen this song before...I like it better than the original album versions.
I like both of the live tracks, Push is just electric live and in person. I can't wait to see the band again in Memphis this weekend for the 3rd time this tour...
The acoustic versions of IYG and Disease are both really good, but I'd have to lean to IYG as the stronger acoustic track.
Suffer Me is a really neat song, I like the lyrics more than the music, but I really connect with the song...the 'love is the king of emotions...' line is my favorite.

I didn't know if there would be plenty of copies and these EPs seem to disappear pretty quickly and they never seem to come back again. I'm really looking forward to it. I wish I would have seen them in concert for this tour. Maybe I still can!

Hey, in case you haven't heard, MB20 will be featured on MTV's Hard Rock Live November 24th at 8:00 p.m. It is a half hour concert. The live version of Push on the ep comes from this concert at the Orlando Hard Rock Live. Heard it was a great show.
This MTV Hard Rock Live series was really great. Nice to see bands actually singing live. You can really learn which bands don't have the goods for a live performance. Nickelback was on last week and did a great job. They seem like a great live band. MB20 is great live too.
