Akon for sure..he's had several successful singles and has been featured on quite a few, but nobody seems to give a damn about him. Lonely, Locked Up, Bananza, Baby I'm Back, Soul Survivor. They all did relatively well.

Definitely Marques Houston, and probably Baby Bash and Frankie J, and it seems like Akon and even Mario, despite his mammoth hit at the beginning of the year. I like them all, to at least some degree, but I detect no enthusiasm for them here, anyway. I disagree with 3 Doors Down -- maybe with this board, but I think they have a pretty strong fan base in general.
I was struck when someone characterizing herself as a Jim Brickman fan asked if there were any other Jim Brickman fans. I guessed she would get no response, because I'd never heard of a Jim Brickman fan before. But he is one of the most consistent hitmakers on AC, even though he doesn't often make the Top 10, and never is played on any other format to my knowledge. Not the kind that would seem to draw raving fans.

I'll place Josh Groban, Charlotte Church, and even Michael Buble on the list. TCasual fans - sure. A huge following - absolutely not. Charlotte Church? No. Nononononono. She's had a huge year in the UK this year.

Definitely not Josh Groban - I know so many teenage girls who are in love with him, they make shirts saying "I (heart) Josh G." I don't know why he is so popular, but whatever floats their boats I guess.

I would say Ciara. She's had relatively huge hits, but I don't see anyone talking about her or talking into buying her CD's.

I think #1 on this list would be Mario. He has one of the biggest #1 hits ever (Let Me Love You) and his album struggled to go platinum while the 4 singles that followed that HUGE #1 all flopped. Ashanti is #2.

I agree. Add Bow Wow to that list, he's had two huge hits, toured, been on TV enough and his album is still far from Platinum.

Celine Dion. She's on that same level of success as Mariah and Maddona in terms of leading female artists. Yet, you hardly here anything about her.

i'd have to say... kelly clarkson... but it's good for her career that no tabloids are attacking her.

yeah, maybe a lot of adults didn't, but if you were a teenager in the late '90s-early '00s you definitely cared about one or both, even to think they both sucked major rocks.

I don't get this thread. An artist can't have success if no one cares about them.

This is interesting, when you look at it, why is it some artist can sell alot but no one really cares about them. Is it because they just happen to sing alot of easy access material but then its forgotten about quickly? You can look back in history and see artist selling more than others but the ones that sold more are not revered or talked about anymore.

You can look back in history and see artist selling more than others but the ones that sold more are not revered or talked about anymore. Revered and talked about are two separate things. Some artists are talked about as much for their flamboyant lifestyles or spotlight-hogging way as for their music.

I just thought that Deborah Cox could probably be added here as well.
In Wendy Williams' book, she uses Deborah as an example of someone who's incredibly talented and has some success, but no one really cares about her because there's no real controversy or scandal for people to latch onto with her.
I sort of agree with this. It seems like everyone knows and likes "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here". But many people don't know the first thing about Deborah, if they even know or care that she sings it. Actually, the same could be said about a lot of the late 90's/early 00's one-hit-wonder dance musicians. You'd hear their songs everywhere, and people would obviously like the songs, but the musicians would never really be seen anywhere in public (e.g., on MTV/TRL) and their albums generally wouldn't sell.

Definitely Mario and Chris Brown. and excuse me, I care so much of Narah Jones!! She swept 5 grammies in such a young age, doesn't mean that she's overrated!! Robbie Williams says he doesn't care about US market. He will not release Intensive Care in US.
