Did Soundscan usually always release sales numbers for the best-selling singles to the public? For some reason, I find it interesting to see how much the #1 commercial single has sold throughout the weeks of the different years.
Here are some I know: 3,440,000 Candle In the Wind, Elton John 632,000 I Will Always Love You, Whitney Houston 393,000 This Is The Night, Clay Aiken 360,000 My Heart Will Go On,, Celine Dion 307,000 The Boy Is Mine, Brandy & Monica 286,000 Flying Without Wings, Ruben Studdard 280,000 Livin' La Vida Loca, Ricky Martin 271,000 Heartbreaker, Mariah Carey 236,000 A Moment Like This, Kelly Clarkson 156,000 Music, Madonna 154,000 My All, Mariah Carey 145,000 I Get Lonely, Janet Jackson 142,000 I Believe, Fantasia 129,610 Inside Your Heaven, Carrie Underwood
Digital sales: 267,000 Hips Don't Lie, Shakira 175,000 Laffy Taffy, D4L (*) 170,000 SOS, Rihanna 149,000 Photograph, Nickelback (*) 147,000 Gold Digger, Kanye West (*) 140,000 My Humps, BEP (*)

Janet's I Get Lonely sold 145k the first week of release. Mariah's My All sold 154k during that same week. Thank you! Does anyone know about Elton's "Candle In the Wind"? I have seen numerous reports saying it sold an astonishing 3 million in its first week, and some say under a million. I kind of assumed the average single sold about 100-150k throughout the late nineties... Does that seem right?

I know I saw it posted in another thread on this board recently but I can't remember which one.

Look for Usher to smash the digital sales record with his next release.
